The guy that doesn’t get her humor shouldn’t have been there in the first place, too structured, loves rules, unable to let loose and understand that she made fun of herself just as much as the maladies that plague us in life. Life is full of hard knocks and tragedy and the best way to overcome the pain is to make fun the very things that cause us pain, because laughing at our own foibles and tragedies will help ease the pain. He didn’t get it and he never will get it, preferring to live entombed in his pain, bitter about the cards he’s been dealt, instead of laughing, knowing he should make the best of his situation and then laugh and rejoice about the good things in his life, Joan was a very well educated woman who was brutally self deprecating, made fun of all of her insecurites, which helped her to get over some of them, Most of all, Joan was the kindest, generous person to those around her, People have to realize that it was just an act, If only they knew how warm, and down to earth she was, One of a kind, no one will match her humor.

George Solomon I’ve confused the hell out of people when they say something that they think will offend me, and I laugh harder about it than they do. It’s so much easier to laugh than to cry. Like that cheesy prayer says, we have to have the wisdom to accept the difference.

I thought her comeback was pretty ineffective. She's supposed to be a comedian, but I saw nothing funny about that exchange. It reminded me of someone being criticized for telling a racist joke and saying, "Hey, I have lots of friends who are black."

@newblor
@newblor 3 жыл бұрын
@@PHJimY The point was, the subject isn't necessarily the target. You seem to be asserting that a joke about being deaf or having one leg or being black (nice strawman to compare this to racism BTW), can only be offensive. She didn't say anything remotely derogatory about the deaf or one-legged. If you can't see the humour in observations designed to play on people's misconceptions, or observe absurdity, or you're just too triggered by the subject to see what the target of a joke is, she's right, that's your problem... and her "comeback" wasn't supposed to be funny. It's not fun dealing with people who can't see farther than an inch in front of their own face.

@Ed Norton Beauty is entirely subjective, and it's about a lot more than the physical body. Maybe someday you'll mature enough to recognise that - but I doubt it! Joan Rivers was a superstar, an exceptional, multi talented human being who was widely loved and respected. She wouldn't give a damn what you though about her, or anything else. She had more talent and charisma in her little finger than you could muster in your entire body! Joan's legacy as a comic genius, writer, performer and philanthropist is assured. I wonder what your legacy will be - or how many will miss you, as she is missed? That was a rhetorical question by the way!

I get it, you don't like funny, smart, successful women, they make you feel inadequate. Poor you! I don't have the time or inclination to argue with you. Joan Rivers' amazing, 50 year career speaks for itself - as do the many millions of dollars she made. How sad for you that you have no sense of humour. If you can't laugh at yourself you're missing the joke of the century, Mr (dick) Ed!

To all of the people who are hating on Joan Rivers, take a second and reflect on yourself. What the hell is saying these things doing to your life? You're sitting in your house writing horribly mean stuff about Joan, while her entire life was built around hardships and constant negativity. Comedy is a way to deal with those hardships in your life. For example, Joans mother really was deaf. THAT'S WHY SHE JOKES ABOUT IT. Educate yourself before you attack someone whose only life goal was to make the world happy. You just make yourself look like an asshole. RIP Joan, we'll never stop laughing.

Aaron Zacharias Its comedy, my man. You don't get to choose what you find funny. That's why there's hundreds of types of comedy - "offensive" comedy is just another type, and Joan is just on stage trying to make people laugh. I get that you also don't get to choose what you're offended by, but you do get to choose not to yell out and interrupt/ruin the show for everyone who enjoys it when you hear something you don't like, like a child would, and instead go find some better-suited comedy. So while I appreciate you saying something is wrong with me for enjoying a silly joke, maybe you should see what it is about yourself that makes you so self-righteous.

My hero! Just saw the documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work. Great stuff! She was fierce and fearless yet had a kind heart. This part of the film I fell apart...hilarious! She's right, "If we didn't laugh where the hell would we all be?" RIP.

She doesn't seem to realize how brilliant she was in that moment. She gets this heckle about how he has a deaf son, schools the man on the meaning of comedy and goes right into 911 jokes to the most uproarious gales of laughter you've ever heard. She's right. We can't sensor comedy. If it's funny, it's funny. Joan Rivers was my hero in that moment.

cam3leopard That's assuming they had stand up comedy shows in saloons. If they did I would be surprised if they didn't have fans and friends with guns, people to keep order, like sheriffs, and guns of their own nearby.

My aunt is in a wheel chair and she, and us, would always make jokes about it. She had an amazing sense of humor and it's one of the things that made us so strong as a family. We all poked fun at ourselves. Also many Jews have said it was their humor over the misfortune that befell them that allowed them to make it through such hard times.
