One of my favorite cinema factoid I know is when Dustin Hoffman was filming Marathon Man, he didn’t sleep, or shower or change his clothes for months because he went full method. Laurence Olivier who was annoyed by this told him « My dear boy, why don’t you try acting? It’s so much easier ».

@@OrganicActing id say it is worth flagging that some people can be asses and calling them out (the whole film is not just the lead actor, of course), but getting into the acting, and getting frustrated with the background noise then apologising for snapping seems like a pretty reasonable response. If hed said 'guys i'm trying to focus, can you be quiet please', it might have been more polite but we didnt see how he was the other 99% of the time on set

I get that hes a good actor but what makes him a Renaissance man?
@goblinbollocks28382 ай бұрын
He's just a weirdo and a div like lots of other actors. Some really great performances in things, made harder to watch for people like me once you see the process behind it and the hero worship he gets for it, same with a lot of the other lauded method actors. I can't remember if Daniel Day Lewis is one of them who stays in character on set but I do remember seeing a short clip where he used the word absurdity or something along them lines when describing acting as a whole and I liked that because it is absurd and ridiculous. I know people have said variations of this a million times but it's grown men and women dressing up and being told where to stand, what to say and how to say it by other people, occasionally coming up with things themselves as well. The only real difference between that and your kid's nativity is the age of the actors and scale and audience size of the production, otherwise it's the same thing they're doing. I love great TV and great cinema, and I love great music too, but it still turns my stomach a bit the way actors and musicians are spoken about and this comment is a perfect example of what I'm on about.

After working on Film and TV sets myself, when the actors are performing, everyone is absolutely silent. If someone is whispering or making any kind of noise, not only does it distract actors and take them out of their performance but it also messes with the on-set sound mix and just ruins the whole professional vibe. I get his frustration here and along with the physical strain he was going through (like imagine this is shot at the end of an 8 hour day and he's eaten and drank nothing). Then Jimmy Kimmel goes on and takes the clip out of context to make a fool of him. That's not a talk show host, that's a gimp looking for attention in the least hospitable way.
