Well actually it's just the avatar body, the navi's are still taller than avatars especially the males. Jake's Avatar is around 10.5 -11 foot tall, Tsu'tey is easily 13 foot tall. The stark difference was when jake visits different clans to call them for battle. The leader of the horse clan from the plains looks freaking 15 foot tall. The human DNA might have to do something with the Avatars still being on the short side.

@@emperormouse5487 Just because you can point out some flaws doesnt make it terrible at all... Its still very well made and you cant say "i see computer model" about shot in which you can see barely anything, as the model is ocluded - really? You dont. You cant see anything in the shot I think you are describing. If anything its not so well compositing for 2 seconds before it gets back to action. The flaw you are pointing out has nothing to do with Thanator model + its digital environment so you deliberately look for flaws, but in real world you wouldnt expect it to be there, so you wouldnt look.

Seeing this scene in IMAX 3D was like nothing we'd ever seen before... even though technically, we had a very similar scene in Star Trek earlier that year. This was just on a whole other level. My favorite thing about this movie is the attention to the ecosystem. This one scene shows some of the more interesting interactions; -side note: I love the way they use the shrinking spiral plants to reveal the rhino thing. That was SUCH a surprising moment for me. -the rhino has very in-depth instincts; it likes to bash its head against things which is very destructive, and unlike a rhino if you charge at the same time as it the animal will stop. -it's also a herd animal -then the panther thing comes out and the standoff he and the rhino bois have is very fascinating to me. it felt refreshing and very natural to see the panther not immediately focus on jake. -both species seem built for strength, which actually makes sense because the forest is dense and the rhinos need to be able to clear paths, the panther also needs to be able to tear up surroundings which its prey may try to use - exactly what we see in the chase. -and no, its not much and they didn't show every tiny detail of any of these animals but it sure af beats a lot of other movies focused more heavily on the humans struggle than the animals they're fighting. -and also, side note 2: the zebra bois aren't very strong because 1. they arent predators, and 2. their form of defense is fucking bouncing. therefore they're very thin and agile.

From Na'vi and Avatar user point of view the Thanator is already quiet big, maybe like an adult bear compared to a human. I love how the Thanator doesn’t mindlessly roar the whole time it chases Sully around. Only when it’s irritated does it ever turn vocal, but hunting it stays mostly quiet and focused. Carnivores keep their mouths shut when hunting or chasing their prey, so this was so refreshing to see at the time it came out.

It’s suddenly occurs to me the deeper sub context of the avatar movie, the final battle is fought not just between the natives and humans, but between the entire planet as a sentient awareness, the natives were not even fully aware of how deeply they could bond with their own environment, until they started bonding with those predators that they had been most vulnerable to. This is the metaphor to show us that all beings must reconnect with the planet to live well.
