We all love a good superhero origin story. Sure, it's great to see Spider-Man swing from buildings, but it’s what Uncle Ben tells a young Peter Parker that touches us all. We all love seeing Batman kick the Joker's teeth in, but we are all fascinated by that tragic night in crime alley. So it’s no surprise that the first and greatest superhero of all time should have a TV show about what defines him. There is a reason why Clark Kent is the best of us. While Batman may be the ultimate example of physical perfection, Superman is the pinnacle of the goodness of humanity. But fans have always debated: is Superman Clark Kent, or is Clark Kent just a disguise? I have always argued Superman is just a cape; Clark is the hero who wears it. Smallville is the case for my belief in what makes Superman the greatest superhero in the world. The series followed a young Clark Kent's journey to becoming the savior of humanity. On the flip side, we also saw how one man could never escape his fate of becoming the world's most heinous criminal. Tragically, two friends who would wind up on opposite sides of good and evil. But have I built up the show into some kind of forgotten masterpiece? Or am I just drunk on kryptonite? Let's find out in this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten.

LOL I always thought it was funny that it was established very early in the show that Clark could see the Kryptonite in the infected people but that is such a macguffin I suppose that they forgot it since Clark could just use his X-ray vision and instantly know who was a ''Meteor freak'' :P

I´m beyond tired of the ridicule of the Martha line in BvS. The idea that both character´s mothers have the same name was something that most people didn´t stop to think about. And that scene was meant to represent that as well as to give Batman something to snap Batman out of his thought of killing Superman and Superman to ask for his mother to be saved. ...and if you think that was the worst line a superhero movie then you haven´t seen Batman and Robin. As for Martha Kent´s performance...of course Smallville´s version was better than the movies. Martha just appeared in 3 movies while in Smallville the character had 10 years to be developed. And, as far as Kevin Spacey goes...he did a great Luthor. Another thing entirely is his personal life.

the song is by Remy Zero , only know them for this song "SAVE ME" I first heard it on Smallville, interesting fact: The song was never written for the show , but the producers hear the song and liked it, so they made it The Smallville theme song, also the song despite not written about superman , actually fits supermans charter and his struggles , and it really fits the show , it is perfect song and very powerful emotionally as well

This show is fascinating because of how long it ran, it saw the world of comic book adaptations change so drastically during its run. It started before the first Spider-Man movie and ended a year before the first Avengers movie. Timeline wise, that's such a monumental shift in the genre and the show for better or worse tried to keep up with it so in that respect, I don't think the show gets the respect it's due. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but it gets more things right than it gets wrong and it was ahead of the curve in a lot of ways

I absolutely loved this show. It was a must see every week for me. I never minded the monster of the week episodes. For whatever reason that worked for me. I also felt like the casting was perfect for all of the main characters. No issues there. I always wished we had gotten a little bit of Clark in the suit, but I get it that that wasn't the show they were making. It is also a shame that this cast never got their shot at a theatrical movie. Tom would have made such a perfect movie Man of Steel. I can't say enough good things about his show. It was still back in a time when everything was simpler. It wasn't all about agendas and all the other crap we have to put up with now in our TV shows and I am sure you all know the kind of stuff I am talking about. Great memories of a time not so long ago. Thanks for the amazing fun look back at a lovely, heartfelt and fun series, something we are truly in need of once again these days.

One thing I loved about Smallville was how Clark used his powers in everyday life. Clark can often be seen chilling and using his powers for daily tasks. Like 6:31 when he's just using heat vision to toast bread. The show would often do that for "breathing room" between scenes, having Clark do farm work casually with superpowers. It made audiences believe that this was normal for Clark, that his powers were a part of how he lived everyday.

I always thought the no flight ,no tights part of the story was a neat aspect. Since a lot of the first few seasons dealt with Clark getting his powers and having to get use to them. Even in the first Superman movie with Reeves, in his high school years you only see him using super strength and speed. It's not until he builds his Fortress that he flies for the first time.

Season 1-5 was a teen drama show with young Superman going through high school. Season 6-10 was a comic book Superman show. I was going through middle school during the first half of the show so I felt I grew up with Clark. Clark was learning to be a teen who has powers and was already an out cast. Clark wanting to enjoy his life in Smallville and protect his family and friends. In the second half of show I was older and enjoyed Clark being an adult and dealing with more comic book issues that grew the mythology for understanding how and why Clark decides to become Superman. Clark learns his destiny is beyond Smallville and he wants to protect everyone, not just the ones close to him. The show whole is a complete character arc for Clark Kent.

Dude, this video didn't bring justice to all the good stuff that smallville gave us. Some subplots and episodes were so good, like when martha and lionel are trapped in LuthorCorp, the caves, the ship, the arc about morgan edge, his connection with lionel and the death of his parents, Memoria, the relics in season 4, season 5 and 6 were also good, the season finales were so awesome Sadly since season 8 it felt like show went in a very different direction and the whole thing about lana wasn't bad but it lasted more than it should have so that Clark falling for Lois were more organic. Overall this was a great show and it's because of smallville that we got Gotham or the Arrowverse

Season 4-7: The Service Era. This universe has a rich, vibrant universe behind it with the DC toy box to play out of, so let’s explore it. Season 8-10: The Bats*** Era. Anything, anywhere, and anyone can show up, so let’s have some fun, and if we rip off several popular movie genres along the way, so be it!

I agree with almost everything, I love Tom as Clark, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex, John Glover as Lionel Luthor, the Kents, and especially Erica Durance as Lois Lane. Erica is my favorite Lois Lane and the romance between Lois and Clark is beautiful. 🥰 Clark and Lana, on the other hand, is horrible, an endless melodrama. I loved the final episode.

Still hard to believe a lot of us were still rockin' VHS when this show started. I remember when the 1st episode aired...had to record to a VHS cuz I couldnt watch it when it was on, cuz back then you had to watch when it was on...no DVR. I unfortunatly didnt stick with the show until sometime during 2006 when I went to college. This show saved my life cuz college life became depressing for me until I dropped out. This show saved me and I started watching it every week after catching up with all the DVDs.

I just remember in every episode Superboy would murder some Kryptonite infected local, often a schoolmate, and then show up in school the next day like nothing happened.

A few of your details are off, but great video. We used to refer to Smallville as “Clark’s Creek” because of the early teen drama episodes…

Smallville used to air on Friday evenings in Jamaica and everybody had to be home to catch it. Was a weird cultural experience.

Summary: Many of the actors didn't want to sign up because they thought the show would be stupid, but they eventually signed up because they saw the script was good. But the show ended up to be stupid anyway. 🙂

I loved this show a lot, but I remember it being all over the place in its last few seasons, especially after rosenbaum departed the show. I think the turning point was when they introduced doomsday, I dont remember exactly. I still watched the show until the very end, but I dont think it really ever regained its form. The finale was a fan service. Still, I got the chills whenever I hear “Save Me” these days.

Excellent show. My girlfriend at the time got me into this show. I watched it until way after it ended. Even when it went into syndication at 5-7am until it phazed away, i would wake early to see it.

This is the best origin story of a hero I've ever seen. The surprise is how this show was allowed to play to completion. It's a brilliant show, has its flaws, yes, but overall it's a brilliantly executed television show. Tom Welling is generations Superman. Films be damned. ❤️

I know everyone makes fun of the "save Martha" line from BVS, but the thing is, everyone is stupid & wrong. Batman's change had NOTHING to do with the fact that the name was "Martha". Her name could have been "Carol". The point was that at the end, when his life was on the line, Clark's priority was his earthly/human mother. Reminding Batman that he HAD a human mother just like every other human, in turn, humanized Superman/Clark, which is what caused Batman to suddenly reverse his decision to kill him. To this point, he had always seen Superman/Clark as an otherworldly god that was too powerful to be left alive. But when he discovered that he had a human mother & that she was actually his #1 priority, like any human, it forced him to see Clark/Superman in a new light. And in that new light, he couldn't kill him without cause.

As for Lex and Lana, Lex saw Clark as a little brother and worked hard to see Clark get the girl. When it didn't work out, he saw an opportunity. I think he pursued Lana initially as a competition, to beat Clark. But as so often happens with love cons, he fell for her and needed to seal the deal. So he faked a pregnancy and manipulated her into marrying him. As for why Lana fell for Lex originally, Lex is a charming dastardly. Rich, ambitious, and focused. A true alpha man. He didn't have to run off at the drop of a hat like Clark did. He could be there for her. And he was, until he won. It was weird, the whole Mrs Luthor thing, but it was par for the course at that point.

I watched every episode of Smallville while it was airing except for season 10. I have the DVD seasons 4 through 9 and still want to buy season 10. It was a show my and my cousins' families always loved to watch. I honestly really thought it picked up a lot during season 4 with Kal El making his appearance through Clark Kent.

Smallville was great for its time, and I think it still holds up very well. The cast was very impressive, and most of the episodes were well-written so they weren't boring. I bought the Blu-Ray set when it first came out, but its been a while since I last watched it.

"Smallville" is still one of my all-time favorite shows [with "Daredevil" and "Stranger Things."] I can revisit it again and again, cheese and all. I loved this show so much that I named my son Alexander/Lex was named after him. My nephew told Mike Rosenbaum about that. He was aghast until my nephew explained he was named after EARLY series Lex.
