Yes it has an extensive database already. The phone helps with up to date reviews and so on. A fun game to play is hotel roulette. I did it in Spain. You ride until you are tired, then search for lodging and stay at the first result in the list.

It's hard to say exactly but I have a 10GB per month plan on my phone and in the summer I rode all day Sunday four weeks in a row and I still used less than one GB. The device really doesn't use much data for traffic and weather. I'd start with maybe 2GB and see how you get on. Even that's probably too much.

Hi Michael. I just used the car bracket. This comes with the Zumo in Europe. I think it doesn't come with the device in certain markets. Here is the kit buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/pn/010-12953-01. The bracket can be snapped to the friction mount ball joint instead of the suction mount.

Hi Peter. You won't see the phone icon unless you have a voice capable Bluetooth headset connected. I experienced the same issue. The XT doesn't have an integrated microphone so you won't see or be able to use the phone features without a headset. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes they are now part of the map along with map updates. The screen resolution is so good you can tell what type of camera it is easily.

I'll have to check. Some of the phone functions won't work without a headset so it could be the case.

Ok so first things first. Are you connecting to the computer via a hub or directly using a USB port on the device. If it's via a hub try connecting directly. If that doesn't work try using a different cable. If that doesn't work try connecting directly to a different PC. The devices can be temperamental about cables and ports. If all of that fails, send the route to an SD card and then insert that in the device and it can pick up the route from there. If you are still getting nowhere contact me and we'll see if we can figure it out over skype.

@@JosephByrne Hi , thanks for that, I’m connecting with the supplied cable to the usb on my computer, windows 10. Tried both ports, I’ll get another cable. I’ve sent a route to my 590 then Bluetoothed it to the XT. That’s not a solution though is it! So disappointed , you’ve helped me get this far, I felt confident in planning a route & now this 😢 I may come back to you on progress. Hopefully

@@JosephByrne Hi there, so I’ve used a new quality usb cable for the XT. Still not recognised. I can import from the sd card or Bluetooth from my 590 to XT. The XT is recognised by the PC but still not by basecamp. Just can’t get my head around why a Garmin device is not seen by their software. Feels like a waste £400 for a brighter screen😤Baffled .

@@grahamholderness6558 Ok so try it on another computer, mate's or wife's or one from work if you can. If it still fails on another computer it sounds like an issue with the device so send it back under warranty and get a replacement. They are really good with their warranties and returns. The replacement device should hopefully work ok. Mine worked fine on Mac, PC and MacBook all 1st time so it sounds like a fault with the device.

So it could be that the volume for your navigation instructions is set too low. You can find that if you tap *Volume* then *Mixer.* Or it could be that your headset is connected for music only. I think the Garmin sends the navigation instructions over voice (like as if it's a phone conversation) so check that your headset is connected for voice and audio. If you have a Bluetooth speaker lying around the house try to connect it to that and see if you hear the navigation instructions. If you do then it's an issue with your headset.

@@JosephByrne thank you , tried another bluetooth speaker and instructions do come through. Its odd because i can here everything through the head set other than directions. thank you for your help

And at night, with brightness at 100%, it is REALLY bright 😆 Finally!

@@JosephByrne Indeed. The screen (and brightness) was the Garmin was truly lacking! With my 595LM on real bright days, i almost wasn't able to see the image on the unit. Finally they opened their eyes and launched the XT with a super display (thanks TomTom... 😆)

@@grounded7362 Yes it can absolutely be used stand alone without a mobile phone. If you connect it to your phone you get extra information such as weather and traffic updates but it will work perfectly on it's own without any access to a network. The satellites it uses to navigate are free and don't require a subscription. That's one of the big advantages of a stand alone device. It stands alone.
