@@egedq Right now just 100% cardio. I bike about 50 miles a week indoor on the bike. Running -500 calorie deficit a day. Id like to get into juijitsu eventually but focusing on getting weight off my left leg (previous injury) I plan to do weights once I get down to a reasonable BMI! started at 275, at 250 today.

@@knappe3223 keep up the good/hard work brotha! Remember to take "breaks" for fun. A break doesn't meant you can't still put in work. It means instead of going for a run, you go kayaking or some other physical activity that you enjoy. Remember to think long term and to that you have to be realistic and enjoy the work. So my advice for someone like you is to mix in plenty of "fun" exercise days so you can be consistent for as long as possible.

Certainly a guy that has lived life, and articulate enough to tell the story, fun to listen to. Like Echo's input on being young and broke. I think I 've had the most fun in life when I was the brokest. A person gets much more inventive and creative, and appreciates it more.

I agree 100%. In my early 20's I was working as a waiter/dish washer barely able to afford to keep my head above water. The only spending money I had was the cash tips that I brought home, which was maybe $20-30 on average. I lived in East Side Long Beach which could be kind of a cr@p hole, but there is a ton of little hole-in-the-wall dive bars. For years I had such a blast going from bar to bar chasing the local dollar beer nights, shooting pool, & meeting other locals/regulars. I did that from age 21-25 and never had more than $60 to spend but it didn't matter. Then I came across an opportunity to start my own business. I took the chance and ended up being very successful. In less than a year I went from earning minimum wage +tips to making 6-figures/month. While I was making that money I would go out and do the same types of things but it be at nicer more upscale type places drinking much more expensive drinks, but something was different. It's hard to explain but I felt hollow like something was missing. I ended up finding myself feeling miserable and fell into depression that lasted a good few years. It took me walking away from what I had built and starting over again from scratch to get out of it. There are some details I left out in order to try to keep this short. In retrospect I was so much happier scraping a living as a waiter than I was earning 7-figures/year.

I was born 1950 into a Malibu surfing family … we moved NS Oahu 1963 … onto Oz 1968 and I declared surfing too crowded by 1972 … LOL … And while my life has been an outsider unusual … was nothing compared with what Maguire has done with his! I went to those killing fields as a tourist and decided to not go in and see the tour. I had already read enough and seen enough in Cambodia to tell me I didn’t need anymore convincing on the subject. The Khmer Rouge killed every engineer in the country apart from one and every intellectual and I believe up to 25% of the population. A shocking statistic that hangs like a shadow over an incredibly beautiful but absolutely broken place.

Excellent session. However, why are there no more Grounded Podcasts? When I first started in on Jocko's podcasts, I had no interest in listening to people talk about jiu-jitsu. As I progressed, I wanted to hear more about life, and being a better person. At some point, the mental puzzle pieces clicked into place as to what jiu-jitsu means regarding life at large, and now I need to hear more Grounded Podcasts. Thank you for all you all do, and thanks for your service.

Great podcast as always. However, one quibble about a quick comment y'all made: the use of antidepressants has not been falsified. I am a psychiatrist who reads extensively on these issues and the recent study referenced in this podcast "The serotonin theory of depression: a systematic umbrella review of the evidence" makes a point that the entire field has been making for decades. There was really nothing ground-breaking about this paper and no major theory within psychiatry was debunked. Depression has been known to be a heterogenous condition and not merely a "Serotonin imbalance" for many years. One cannot conflate a simplistic explanation given to non-expert patients with the actual scientific evidence for depression pathology. Additionally, the study itself did not address the evidence of efficacy of SSRIs or other antidepressants, which consistently yields superior results relative to placebo. Let's be careful before making exaggerated statements about medication efficacy based on a single misrepresented and over-hyped study. I trust you would not lead a combat mission based on a single, misleading piece of intelligence, so please do not do likewise when it comes to advice regarding mental illness treatment.

Very Interesting, how this lines up with Romans 12:20 "On the contrary: 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.'" Around the 80 minute mark, Peter talks about how the Marshell plan was what really got Germany on the right track.

@Marty McSuperFly! Singling me out? It was more like singling yourself out. So your accomplishment in life is doing nothing. Being a Praetorian tool better than being a useless tool. Any fool can do nothing. Nothing is easy. Hating and blaming is easy too and usually comes with doing nothing. When you hate and blame, you think it gets you off the hook for doing nothing. Maybe, but it just makes life more miserable and harder than it already is and definitely in the long run. Do you have a family, friends, a job, a fitness regiment???? If not, you need to. You need to have important responsibilities to have meaning. You also need to accomplish something worthwhile or have goals and go after it. If you don't have significant objectives, you'll be lost and miserable. It sounds like you are lost and miserable. Better look in the mirror and make some changes quick before your old and miserable. My day starts in the gym at 5am. That's how I start my day of accomplishments 365/year. Good luck.

While the vast majority of North American martial artists reached for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I chose the less traveled flanking path of Wushu/ Kung-Fu. Reiki and Chi Kung are very popular with French Canadians that reject the overbearing presence of Catholicism here ..they are not the best people, they form groups to implement and impose sociopathies upon victims that are singled-out, destroyed then denied existence. Others had "land-speed" records to confirm, I have hand-speed records to check. Using audio signal analysis, the jab and cross are measured at intervals as low as 50ms, a rate of 20 strikes per second. Of course the hook and uppercut measured slightly longer to execute, the entire basic four strike boxing form, in not more than 1/3 of a second.

I cleaned at university in the nation's capital (could not attend), later I had the opportunity to perform analyses at the University of Ottawa, confirming the hydro-philicity of compounds that are proposed phyto-cananbinoid supplement treatment, for endogenous cannabinoid deficiency in bone marrow biochemistry (proposed non-psycho-pharmacologically-active treatment for Leukemia ..the police-pak and child-safe cannabinoid). The U of O is considered more prestigious, yet the washrooms traumatised me, I thought I had seen it all cleaning at Carleton (waxed every science building ..the bird's eye).

What I realise, "team guys" may find themselves running and gunning with weapons ..I am running and gunning, firing novel technologies. There has been one technology delivered after another, for seven consecutive years now. My technology-birthing mind must be like an aircraft hanger door by now. No one in North American helps nor contributes resources yet. I have more important work to accomplish, they had their two decades of face-stuffing, couch-fluffing time working for the enemy and now that is over.

Cambodia is a beautiful place. But it still reeks of human misery. Even now.

A Navy SEAL trainee's death exposed a culture of brutality, cheating and illicit drugs at the force’s grueling selection course. "They say it’s training, but it’s torture," the trainee's mother said.
