A friend asked me what I thought of the war in Israel. I told her I don't know anything about it and don't want to know about it, that it's out of my control and I much rather focus on myself and what I can control. That was a few weeks ago, and now this video comes out so it's good to know I was on the right path.

Dude..that's how I've been starting to feel more about some things in life lately. Many things are just pointless or meaningless to some ways where it's a waste of time energy as we don't have any control at all over things. Just as pointless as trying to have anything real with modern 304s for the STREETS. Clear waste of everything in our lives being the most meaningful as males that want peace and happiness in life without all the extra unnecessary avoidable problems that's expected with no fault divorce alimony child support and meeliars as the rest sinkholelandmines all around transitioning into landwhalez 😒 getting that down would improve a lot of things in some areas having a lot less things and others to worry about or feel stressed out over 💊💯👍

I'm glad I kept listening. My initial impression was more confusion than anything else, but I know 2 things. 1: Jocko thinks before he speaks, and this video isn't likely to be "the one time" he doesn't. And 2: Language often fails us because there are too damned many words that mean similar things and wind up getting used interchangeably. As I kept listening (I'm legally blind, so I 'listen' to vids), I came to agree with what Jocko was saying as a concept. I "think" the disconnect was the word "Opinion". I "think" a better word that's closer to the message here might be "Assertion". I may be wrong, and I certainly don't want to put words in anyone's mouth. But to my mind opinions are automatic. We encounter a thing and we naturally form opinions on that thing. If we're wise, we don't think of those opinions as concrete facts, and are constantly refining them. When we "Assert" a thing, we're confident that we're right. We say a thing or think a thing with confidence (and often with arrogance). For me, when I swapped Opinion for assertion for this bit of excellent advice, everything clicked into place. Again, not putting words in Jocko's (or anyone else's) mouth. This just helped me reconcile the premise with what I know about Jocko and language as a whole. I hope this is helpful to someone. Thanks, Jocko. :) ~Blinky

This is genius level advice: i used to have resentment and hatred with regards to certain things. The negativity consumed a big chunk of my day and made my quality of life very low. Once I got to start learning and reading and researching and exposing myself to these things, the less it consumed me. Instead I started to feel compassion and pity for those who I previously considered my enemies.

“It is in our power to have no opinion about a thing, and not to be disturbed in our soul,” Marcus Aurelius writes. And this is because “the things themselves have no natural power to form our judgements.” Only we, ourselves, can do that. And you can bet he knew a thing or two about life...

This applies to business. I'm a brand and content strategist, and I immediately spot the newbies (or scams) because they're quick to say they know the right way to market. There's literally no one right way to market. There's so much nuance because business (especially branding) is so personalized. One of the only strong opinions about business I have is "focusing on your audience and running an ethical business are solid ways to create a sustainable business with repeat customers." But what's considered ethical might differ between people, hence...nuance.

00:10 🤔 Having an opinion on everything might not be beneficial; refrain from strong opinions on everything. 01:34 🧠 Strong opinions can impact emotions, attitude, and mindset, affecting your overall outlook. 02:29 🤷‍♂ The stronger your opinion, the less you may truly know; openness to different perspectives indicates deeper knowledge. 03:56 🤐 Less opinion often leads to more learning and understanding; avoid unnecessary arguments over subjective matters. 05:35 🤔 Challenging someone aggressively with a strong opinion rarely convinces them; it often closes their mind to alternativeperspectives. 06:50 🧭 Admitting uncertainty ('I'm not sure,' 'I don't know') can open your mind for learning and constructive discussions. 07:04 🤝 Open-minded discussions lead to personal growth, productivity, and a more constructive contribution to communities.

They naturally occur in Canada but in the U.S. their presence is largely attributed to some of them being captured and released at Kent State University. If you mean why they evolved, fur color allowing for greater chance of survival means you get white polar bears in the Arctic, but not in Pennsylvania. If the there were no ice caps or glaciers, polar bears would evolve back to being brown via natural selection. So for the super snowy areas of Canada - the better question is...why are there not more white squirrels? There are in fact, non-albino white squirrels. But they are rare.
