28:50 The key for getting from 15 to 20 pushups when you can't do anymore is to pause for 15-30 seconds then do as many as you can, then rest and repeat, you can do almost 100 in 20 minutes when your max is only 15 consecutive. That's way more powerful to your mental toughness than giving up at your max or trying to push your max.

It's Jan 02 2024. I'm off on 4 weeks leave from work staying with family interstate. Using this time to reflect, getting my mind right. One thing I wanna do is start listening to the Jocko Podcast, so I'm starting from #1, plan is to listen 1 hour each day, kinda like a daily master class on Personal Growth / Leadership Growth that I'm 'signing up' for , currently the JP is up to number #417. I'm also on to Day 2 of the DEF RESET 2024 Challenge. 8 Daily Habits. Hopefully I don't stay off the Path. I'll give you all an update Dec 31 2024 so I can hold myself accountable... Let's get AFTER IT #DEF

I found this podcast after listening to both Joe Rogan appearances. I have to say that I'm starting to really feel what you have to say Jocko. It's making me think a lot and It's caused me to start a new path in my life. I'm getting back into jiu jitsu thanks to your talks about discipline and JUST DO IT! I want to give you props and say keep it up man! On a side note I was in the Air Force and hearing all your war stories are interesting. Being part of the chair force I didn't get the experience you did, but having family and friends who are/were in the Marines I've heard about how hard it can be in the front. Proud of you and every other Marine. Thanks for fighting in the frontlines for our freedom and liberty. HOORAH!!

I'm discovering these podcasts now. Great timing for me, need a kick in the pants and some good reminders. Mental toughness... this is what I learned many years ago. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Step out of your comfort zone. The more you step out of your comfort zone the bigger that comfort zone gets, the bigger your life gets. My mental toughness grows or stays front and center in my life as I continue to step out of my comfort zone. Even if one is stepping out of that comfort zone a little bit at a time, your building mental toughness a little bit at a time and keeping mental toughness front and center.

Sir, first of all, you are the most legit person I have heard on a podcast. There are a lot of people who claim to be self-help gurus, and try to sell themselves, and basically rip off people who are desperately trying to improve themselves. But you are totally honest, you don't try to sugar-coat your listeners, you tell the truth. I am going to go through all of your podcasts. :)

I like how Echo acknowledges that he didn't really have a need for discipline until a few years before this video. Like him, I was pretty naturally gifted at most things I did, and while I worked hard to improve at them, I never had to truly apply high levels of self discipline. It was either not necessary or applied for me by coaches, teachers, parents, etc.

Fucking excited to be starting this Journey from your first Podcast forward. I am so extremely into leadership and team building principles that I would even consider it my main hobby. I develop myself so that I can reach the pinnacle and then turn around to help those still struggling with the climb. I first hear you in some mashes of shows that I follow already on KZfaq, and I was intensely drawn to the way you discuss things. This as fate would have it, in my striving to move up in my career, I was passed up for a position that I really wanted. After the req was filled, our VP of Operations (who was the person that conducted my interview) called me to go over to his office at my convenience; which of course I did. He told me that he felt that I was the prime candidate for the job that I was just passed over for, and even went as far as to tell me I was even more qualified than the person who actually to the position. He said that the only reason that I did not get that job, was because I was "not ready, and needed to learn to lead from within and not by the numbers". Then he gave me a copy of your Book, "Extreme Ownership", told me that was where I needed to start and to be ready for the next opportunity that comes along. Of course, I am sure you already know this; but your book is fucking phenomenal. It has become one of the top 3 mentoring forces for me; and those that look to me for guidance. Sure, it is very possible I am drawn to your approach because I am also former military. Of course, even though I had a great military career, it was nowhere as distinguished or deserving of respect than that of which you and your teams did. I look forward to learning and growing through your podcast and any other forms of media I can find to follow you. Maybe one day I will be able to meet your face to face, shake your hand, and personally thank you for all that you have done to make this world a better place. Cheers!

'strength' and 'toughness' mean a great deal more than pushing yourself physically and sticking out your course work. there's a massive difference between going through the challenges in pursuit of your dreams, versus sucking up the hopelessness, and pain, and injustice of everyday adult existence just to stay afloat. a big macho guy who's spent the best part of his life doing something as fulfilling as being a damn SEAL probably isn't going to appreciate that, so i myself just want to give credit to all of those people in the grind that nobody seems to give a shit about.
