As a child actor, Jodie Foster’s mother told her she would never work past the age of 40. But with ‘Nyad’ and ‘True Detective’ the Oscar winner has never been busier.

All these recent interviews really show a more loose and relaxed Jodie, than she ever did before, she's definitely enjoying her life as a 60yr old

Jodie really started to chill out over the past decade or so, even allowing people into her private life in a way she NEVER did before. When she kissed her wife on live TV after winning the Golden Globe in 2021 -- that was something she NEVER would have done in her younger years. I do think the whole John Hinckley affair when she was in college made her very, very cautious about guarding her personal life, but maybe in recent years she has finally felt she can let a lot of that go.

Who cares if she's beautiful or not? It's exhausting to keep bringing people back to beauty, as if that validates them or not. 💀 Above all, Jodie Foster is a very inventive and refreshing actress, and someone who seems very intelligent. And THAT is important. 👍🏼

Every time I see Jodie Foster being interviewed, I find her observations very interesting. One interview which stands out was when she was asked if she had ever had a "Me Too" moment. Luckily she hadn't, since her mother wasn't a pushy stage mother like too many others, but actually cared about her child's well-being. Even though Jodie didn't mention Harvey Weinstein by name, I knew that was who she was referring to with the words "pig in a bathrobe."

There is nothing wrong with calling her beautiful….no one said it was her most important attribute. And calling someone beautiful, by the way, can also refer to their essence..personality and humanity, too. Why such pushback over calling someone beautiful? Gee whiz.

She looks incredible. And I think she's right -- a lot of actresses seem to get "thrown out" in a sense in their 40s and 50s, but then can come back strong in their 60s and beyond playing really interesting roles in the "crone" phase (and I mean that in a complimentary way). I was just (re)watching Judi Dench in Notes on a Scandal the other night, and, man, she KILLED in that role and was over 70 when she played it. Left the much younger Cate Blanchette in the dust. Older age can be SUCH an interesting time for women.
@casckettfriki
@casckettfriki 4 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you, an actress with certain age is more mature and can play deeply. Although I don't agree with the part of Judi Dench leaving Cate Blanchett in dust. I think both of them were terrific. Very underrated movie.

@@casckettfriki I like Cate Blanchett, but she sometimes chews the scenery/overacts. Judi Dench was perfectly believable in every scene. Blanchett was clearly ACTING in some scenes. It's OK -- Judi has a lot of years on her!

This is one of our FINEST actresses. It's a near crime that the film industry does not feature her and value her along with the likes of Cate Blanchett, Julie Dench, etc. Perhaps it's that regular American kid quality she has that leads to her being underappreciated. I think it only makes her more disarming and effective. This is why her performance was so devastating in the Accused. She's one of us.
@apartmentgroup9671
@apartmentgroup9671 4 ай бұрын
She's done pretty well for herself overall, even won a Golden Globe for her performance in The Mauritanian. But she did start to do a lot more directing than acting when she was in her mid-30s, so some of her lesser screen time seems to have been a choice.
@alexlazzerly3677
@alexlazzerly3677 4 ай бұрын
I think it's honestly just more her own choice tbh. Like clearly she's been more selective with her acting roles and prioritized directing for a while. And look at her now. As soon as she dips her toe back into acting, she kills it on True Detective and gets an Oscar nomination.

It also helps that times are changing. Even 10 years ago, during actresses roundtables, you’d hear (and we could see) how the good roles were written for men; and female roles were a second thought, just to support the male lead, how writers wouldn’t write a decent female role-usually. Now there’s more women out there directing, writing and producing, therefore creating good roles for women of all ages. Better roles are more abundant now than ever before. In the past it was slim pickings and surely, there was a discrimination against age. Actresses in their 30s would be playing the mother to an actor also in his 30s. An actor in his 50s would be paired with an actress in her 20s. Times are changing and allowing talented women like Jodie Foster and Annette Bening to continue to delight us with their talent, and I’m glad.
