"Hundreds of protesters were arrested early today as police moved in to clear the pro-Palestinian encampment at UCLA after massing at the campus overnight. Officers scuffled with some protesters who defied warnings to either leave or face arrest.
Police pulled down barricades and tents and arrested a number of protesters following a tense standoff. There were violent scenes yesterday when counterprotesters attacked members of the encampment, members said."

I was a Vietnam War student protestor. Thank you for your understanding and voicing of the source of the students' protest as motivated by compassion for humans who are suffering and dying and your unveiling of the way the university administration requested police responses have been vastly disproportionate and have prejudiced the public against the protesters!! When peaceful protesters are ignored, they may resort to more extreme measures to get their message across. This is a natural response to being repeatedly ignored and unheard, just like how someone might react if they repeatedly asked for help and were ignored. It's like stepping on someone's toe; if they ask you to stop nicely a few times but you keep doing it, eventually, they may react more strongly. The same goes for protests. If young people are brave enough to speak out but no one is listening, they may resort to more drastic measures to make themselves heard. It's important to listen to these voices, as many of these young people will become future leaders, and their viewpoints may not align with those of today's leaders. This is a message for the world, including the experimental state of Israel, where European Jews reside.

It is LITERALLY tradition, to occupy Hmilton Hall, during major student protests. It was done in the 60s, during the anti-war protests during the War of American Aggression, and during the anti-apartheid protests in the 80's. If it is a major student protest that is on the right side of history, Hamilton Hall needs to be occupied. In the 60's, the students literally held the dean hostage for a while. This occupation was nothing near as severe as past protests.

I saw the TikTok Livestreams when the UCLA attack was happening.Those counter protestors started the night playing loud obnoxious music and mocking the encampment with sounds of a baby crying. The whole thing definitely seemed coordinated.

The crux of the matter is this: it's not the appearance or demeanor of the protesters that determines violence; it's the disproportionate use of force against them. When individuals stand up for their rights, they are met with aggression, turning self-defense into a necessity rather than a choice. This inversion of roles, where the victim becomes the aggressor in the narrative, must be exposed and denounced. Moreover, this paradox is not isolated but systemic. It reflects a broader pattern in how conflicts are portrayed and understood by the public. Mainstream media play a pivotal role in shaping these narratives, often complicit in perpetuating the distortion of reality. By framing defense as aggression and aggression as defense, they sow confusion and perpetuate the status quo. It is imperative that we call out this manipulation of truth and demand accountability from those who shape public discourse. The mainstream media must be held accountable for their complicity in perpetuating false narratives that vilify those protesting for their rights. Until this distortion is rectified, genuine progress towards justice and equality will remain elusive.

I work at a university. There have been protests on our campus, but they've been peaceful so far. I know the cops were called to the encampment a few times, but they didn't get violent. Our administration has historically been pretty supportive of student protests. I know if I was still a student, I'd be out there with them.
