That would be ironic since one of the first things he says is "you don't need film school"...I'd love to see a school brave enough to actually run it though, that would be awesome.

I’ve been watching you for a long, long time. You introduced me to my love for horror back in the early 90s. It’s ironic that you had Lloyd Kaufman on the show tonight. Lloyd took me under his wing and appeared in my movie. It went on to win over 120 awards in film festivals all over the world. It’s because of you and Lloyd and speeches like this that keep the dream alive for so many of us. What you said spoke directly to my soul and I am so grateful for what you two do to drive this industry forward and keep it alive. I’ll be a fan forever. I owe you more than you know. Thank you for allowing me to realize my career path. Without you and Lloyd, I would’ve felt like I never had a chance.

Anyone who wants to be an artist -- a filmmaker, a writer, a musician, a poet, a visual artist -- should take Joe Bob's words to heart. It's true across the board. The playing field for filmmakers and artists of every kind is more level now than it's ever been before. LA, New York, Nashville ... they don't matter like they once did. Staying where you are and learning on your own is possible. And being a success through that route is possible. BE a director, musician, poet, artist. MAKE the things you are driven to make. No excuses.

You can keep your cape and tight-wearing fantasy heroes. Real heroes dispense good old wisdom while sporting fancy belt buckles and bolo ties. Joe Bob Briggs has been a hero of the night for a good long while, and I hope there will never be a night when his words aren't echoing out from the televisions of so many dark living rooms. What used to pass for a great night for me consisted of watching Monstervision and then heading out to a diner for some late night breakfast food and odd hour companionship with other fans of the saint of the drive-in. We'd talk about the movie we saw that night and other movies in general over coffee, served in those chunky old style diner cups, and plates of hash browns, eggs, and bacon. Watching Joe Bob on Shudder reminds me of the glow of the television in my old room. He reminds me of nights eating and talking into the early morning hours over the scraping of forks on diner plates and the smell of some old nighthawk's Marlboro reds, which crudely scented the air of our charming local diner that has sadly not existed for well over a decade, at this point. Joe Bob is one of the few representatives of the best of the living past, and I'm eternally grateful to Shudder for giving him a platform. For a few hours, whenever I need to, I can flip on my tv and time travel with one of the greatest writers and commentators in the world today, who also greatly enhanced so many of my yesterdays. Thanks, Joe Bob and Shudder.

This is the guy the Oscars should have hosting it. Like the late, great Tim Russet. Who made MEET THE PRESS appointment television, and quotable throughout the following week. Russet was a geek for the news, and politics. And his enthusiasm was contagious. Briggs brings the same vibe to his show. This is something the Academy Awards needs.

If I had to sum up what many good people like Joe Bob say, it’s “fail until you don’t”. If you can get yourself into the mode of failing, you will succeed. Any line of work, any past-time, any dream, any hope, fail until you don’t. Now if only I could convince myself to do this...
