Mule kick ? Calzaghe was not recognized as much of a puncher. He virtually had Zero KOs agai st better comp. he couldn’t even stop badly shot RoyJones who was KOd in the first round by Danny Green next time out. Hot Lacy with 1000 punches and couldn’t stop him either. Speedy fighter but not a hard puncher in the larger sense.

@@checkandbalance2903 Yeah.....you're right. I guess that he defeated opponents with "death by a thousand cuts" but you really can't take away what the man did. Americans only look to their own fighters.....wish that Joe could have had these bouts earlier in career but timeline did not allow. Still one of my favorites for his tenacity.

I am really curious as to why you think that ? Canelo, Manny Pac, Lomenchenko are currently the 3 most popular fighters in America right now and not one of them is American. Americans love fighters from all over. Calzaghe was treated with respect when he came here. We put him up on the marquee and he was made the favorite in both fights. It’s just that Calzaghe was too cautious.

Calzaghe would need to wait till lomanchenko was at least 40 to 41 then he would probably take the fight !! It would be awesome.. as long as Lomenchenko had lost a few times and was post 40 Calzaghe would make it happen !! Joe can’t fight prime world class fighters though we all know that.

Mark Cooke I bet your from the UK. Because only UK fans have this obsession with Americans. My point is completely valid. Joe Calzaghe was a great boxer who did very well for himself but he’s no where near the “best ever” . Ray Robinson won 112 straight fights (3 times as many as Calzaghe) and had 16 wins against HOF fighters at there peak. You think Calzaghe beating 43 year old Hopkins and Kessler (not HOF) matches up to that ?? Really ??? By the way my favorite fighter of all time is Mexican JC Chavez. The top 3 fighters in America right now are Pacman, Lomenchenko and Canelo., All foreign. Only UK sport nuts view boxing as some international affair. Americans love fighters from all over. Period.

don't be fooled, Calzaghe was one who adapted to the opponent, assessed Whoodhall, and decided that he could stand his shots well, played with the energy savings activated, it's probably something that is decided in the ring at the moment, maybe in unconscious way, when studying and weighing the opponent's blows.

People forget Joe was a very heavy puncher but suffered from brittle hands his whole career and some fights he couldnt spar and in at least one boxed one handed....still won everything and ended undefeated. Quite amazing fighter.
@checkandbalance2903
@checkandbalance2903 4 жыл бұрын
Please stop with the “brittle hands” crap. All boxers suffer hand problems. Joes hands weren’t any more brittle than anyone else’s. His own manager Warren said Calzaghe fakes hand injuries to pull out of fights. Joe was a “heavy puncher” against truly awful competition early in his career. He got less knock outs later because the fighters got a little better and he WAS NOT a heavy puncher. He couldn’t even stop Roy Jones who was KOd by Tarver and Johnson leading up and in the first round by Danny Greeneight after Calzaghe. Calzaghe was the only decent fighter who could not KO that version of Jones. He was not a big puncher and the brittle hands nonsense was his excuse to the press
@petyrkowalski9887
@petyrkowalski9887 4 жыл бұрын
Check and Balance sorry, no I will not "stop with the brittle hands" and your claim implying all boxers are the same just isnt true. There are many boxers who never suffer serious hamd injuries and others who have been plagued by them...thats just a fact. Warren and Calzaghe had a difficult relationship ending up in court so no surprises Warren bad mouthed Joe.
@checkandbalance2903
@checkandbalance2903 4 жыл бұрын
Petyr you don’t objectivly know Calzaghe had “brittle hands”. Yup your right Warren and joe fell out, but I 100 percent believe him when he called bull on Calzaghes hand injuries. It makes perfect sense. I’ve been in boxing for 30 years and the hand injury excuse is number one by a county mile. Floyd Mayweather blames hand injuries for his lack of knock outs later in his career. Bull shit. He simply adopted a safety first style against dangerous opponents who could hit back. If you look at most fighters there KO ratio plummets precipitously as they move up in class. Fighters have massive egos and they have to have a reason. Calzaghe hit Lacy with 1000 punches and it didn’t look like he was holding back at all... he’s JUST NOT A BIG PUNCHER.. unless of course he’s fighting TuckerPudwell or Omar Sheika. EARLY IN HIS CAREER HIS STOPPAGES WERE TKOs against terrible opponents. I’m not aware of any actual KOs at all ??? Point some out if you know.

@@petyrkowalski9887 the usual Check and balance, this guy spends whole days to negatively comment on Calzaghe's videos trying to convince Calzaghe's fans and admirers that he wasn't a great boxer, I just say but if you don't like a boxer why do you spend whole days to watch his videos? There are also videos of Froch down there so that I know he looked at Kessler vs Froch, instead the desire to destroy and diminish rather than appreciate his favorite boxer is stronger!
