Joe Cocker live in concert from 1992.
Cocker is an English rock/blues singer who came to popularity in the 1960s, and is most known for his gritty voice, his idiosyncratic arm movements while performing and his cover versions of popular songs, particularly those of The Beatles. He is the recipient of several awards, including a 1983 Grammy Award for his song "Up Where We Belong", a duet which he performed with Jennifer Warnes.
"Feelin' Alright" also known as Feeling Alright is a song written by Dave Mason of the English rock band Traffic from their eponymous 1968 album, Traffic.

I'M A HANDICAP WITH A GREAT IMAGINATION AT AGE 33 AND I JUST COULDN'T IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO SUFFER A STROKE AND SUDDENLY BE MORE CRIPPLED THAN I ALREADY AM. I KNOW IT WOULD BE TOUGH, DEPRESSING AND PAINFUL FOR JUST ABOUT ANYONE, BUT FOR ME OR EVEN SOMEONE MORE DYSFUNCTIONALLY HANDICAPPED, I SHUDDER TO THINK OF OF SUCH A NIGHTMARE. BUT THERE IS ANOTHER MUCH OLDER SONG THAT HAPILLY TRANSCENDS TO AGE. IT'S CALLED I'M GLAD I'M NOT YOUNG ANYMORE, MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT MAURICE CHEVALIER'S VERSION ON KZfaq. IT MIGHT MAKE YOU FEEL A BIT BETTER. AS FOR JOE COCKER, WELL, THERE'S ONLY TWO TYPES OF MUSIC IN THIS WORLD, GOOD MUSIC AND BAD MUSIC. AND ANY MUSIC THAT MAKES PEOPLE FEEL HAPPY IS GOOD MUSIC. AND JOE COCKER IS ONE OF THE GREATEST.

The best screamer in the universe. And this song is unbelievable It’s sad that most in the younger generations will never even hear it. Not unless some company decides to use it in an advertisement. Unless that’s already happened in at least one country. Well, not knowing this song is a sad loss. And the song is so uplifting, played on very high volume. It’s almost spiritual. Probably because it’s pretty much Gospel.

It must be so hard. My mother didn't recognize me for bthe last week she was alive & I was crushed. I am stiill ashamed of myself. You cheer me by giving me hope that ii can be a better person by learning from people like you. Like Ms. Polito, I think of you when I hear the song. I share her hope that you are also being helped. I call it the "airplane rule.." Parents are supposed to put on their air masks first before helping their children. You are so strong & have inspired so many (If a few people post, lots more are silently reading.) If you let someone help upyou, you're really just letting them return a favor. Thank you.

+Susan Garvin I am doing the best I can for as long as possible. I have come to understand that I cannot do this alone for the long run and will need help. What struck me about this song was the ironic lyric "Before someone comes along and takes my place. With a different name and yes a different face". A year ago my wife decided "her husband (that's me) left her" and he was replaced by a caregiver who has a different face and has a different name... of course that is still me. It is a bizarre life living with someone who sees me as a stranger. Listening to Joe's song actually made me laugh about it.

We saw him at a small venue, outdoor performance, with a couple hundred people, in 1988, Columbus, Ohio. It was an amazing and personal concert. Joe had his full band, and 3 female backup singers. Myself along with the rest of his fans, were Woodstock generation hipsters. It was a 'rockin' love fest'. Many of us sang along, when Joe performed some of his older music, the songs he's best know for. It was memorable.

On this day in 1969 {April 27th} Joe Cocker & the Grease Band performed "Feelin' Alright" on the CBS-TV variety program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Two months later on June 15th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #100; four weeks later it would peak at #69 {for 2 weeks} and it spent 6 weeks on the Top 100... Three years later in January 1972 it re-entered the Top 100 for 9 more weeks, and on February 6th it peaked at #33 {for 2 weeks}... Between 1968 and 1990 he had twenty-one Top 100 records; four* made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes, for 3 weeks on 'Trick or Treats', October 31st, 1982... * He just missed having five Top 10 records when "Cry Me A River" peaked at #11 {for 2 weeks} in 1970...

Joe Cocker had a strange way of expressing himself on stage but it was unique. Joe said this about his what he did on stage ''You mean my arm movements? I actually saw myself with Eric Clapton - you know you see all your old stuff on KZfaq now - and I was horrified at myself, with my arms just flailing around. I guess that came with my frustration at never having played piano or guitar. If you see me nowadays I'm not quite so animated, but it's just a way of trying to get feeling out - I get excited and it all comes through my body.''

I loved me some Joe Cocker, he was the best singer of Rock, and Soul music, I've ever heard. He could hold his own with the best, including James Brown. When I saw him on the show with James Brown and Friends, Joe and Wilson Picket were the only ones that let James know that they could scream also. My opinion is that Joe and the Wicket Pickett held back because both of them could scream just as good as James, and James knew it, that's why James kept screaming not that he was any better because he wasn't, both of them were honoring him, by not trying to out shine him. Joe Cocker had a unique style, he could sing hard rock and soul which made him stand out. Also Robert Palmer was one of my favorites on that show as well. Addicted to Love was my song. The Beatles wrote good songs but to me they were not good singers, but good writers.
