I'm a Joe fan. Ali was an ass. Joe tried to help Ali and spent his own money and efforts to help Ali get back into boxing and then Ali talked some vicious crap about Joe. Joe was a class act, man. I recognize Ali as a great boxer. Maybe the greatest. But Joe was a terrific boxer and also a good human.

Great point, didn't see it that way. Most fighters would've paraded with the belt & left the true champion to fend for his self. Look at what's going on today. I saw that show on KZfaq and you can tell Ali was happy to see Joe and was humbled by his presence. When Joe told a story about the 2 setting up the first fight in Joe's car Ali was just tickled by Joe story. Joe was a great champion and a great man. Ali I bet wished he didn't say all those terrible things.

I remember that show, it was on ITV with Emmon Andrews. My dad taped it on VHS cassette.

It was not Ali's individuality that made him so famous but his ability to connect to other humans and his ability to change, and I believe definitely changed a lot from the man who insulted Joe Frazier.

It completely torpedos the mythic persona of Ali as this great man of virtue. I've always been a combat sports fan (MMA, Karate, Olympic Wrestling), but never taken anything other than a mild interest in boxing until recently and now I'm BINGEING all the big fights (Rumble in the Jungle, Gatti v Ward I II and III, Bowe vs Holyfield trilogy, you get the picture; enough of my rambling) and a big Thank You to you and all the other boxing channels that fuel this kick that I hope will never end!

I believe Tyson would win due to a much heavier punch and quicker hands, but Frazier is indeed the toughest HW boxer of all time and one of the greatest. Fighting styles are very similar between the two, but I think Tyson would win. Would be a good fight.

After the Thriller in Manilla Muhammad Ali called for Joe's son Marvis. He said to him he was sorry for the hurt he had caused their family, and to tell his father that he didn't mean the things he had said. It was an olive branch. Marvis told his father, and Frazier said no, why doesn't he say those things to me, why doesn't he apologise to me. A complicated relationship, and it's easy to see that moment from both sides. Ali respected Frazier, he just didn't pay him that respect in public. For Joe Frazier, as a straightforward and proud man, sentiment was all well and good but simply had to be backed up by man to man, face to face respect.

Fraizer was always listed at 5'11 and a half so you can basically say 6 ft

That fight reminded me of the fight scene in "Cool Hand Luke" where Paul Newman's character kept getting up and said to George Kennedy's character "you're going to have to kill me" Frazier had no ability to "stay down"

Yeah. Paul Newman played some of the coolest characters ever seen on film. And they didn't always come out on top like some bogus super hero. Joe was even cooler and absolutely real. Not the best boxer ever, but my hands down favorite.✊🏾💯

This doesn't get talked about enough! The fact that Frazier got up SIX TIMES against arguably the strongest puncher in boxing history, George Foreman, and still looked ready to go the distance, is simply incredible. The man was literally the meaning of the phrase "He doesn't stop."

I, like many, was mesmerised by Ali 'performance'. But, 'How poorly Ali treated Frazier'?!...the man couldn't keep his mouth shut from spitting incessant insults at Frazier. He was incandescently insulting to JF. And thankfully Ali was genuinely repentant at how he spoke about JF. Frazier was not an all time great,he was trouble for Ali and that was it. He ducked an old Sonny Liston Ernie Shavers and Ron Lyle for starters. He beat two tomato cans in his only title defenses and was nearly beaten twice by a very pedestrian Bonevena. I do think that style wise Tyson was a super charged version of Frazier who would have iced Ali in later rounds or beat Ali in a very lobsided decision. Mike had a much better defense than Joe and hit way harder and faster.

A sports illustrated reporter accidently left a recorder running and was talking to Ali at the time of his refusal and Ali said on the recording that he just wanted to make money and not fight in war. The whole doing it for Asains or blacks was a lie as most of Ali's legacy was a lie, Ali had the right not to go but his pretending to be a hero and proclaimed hero for his stand when he was just a coward is pathetic and tells you Ali was just faking as always.

Ali was human like all the rest of us. That was definitely one of his lower moments, but he’s done a tremendous amount of good outside of that incident.

No percentages of the take, no upside. If nobody showed up on March 8 to watch us fight, we were still walking away with our pockets full.
