Beau Taylor the reason why they hired him is because they knew nobody would take him really seriously. Ted Bundy was a man that nobody really thought could kill a women since he was really attractive and super charming. Zac Efron, a man that many of us grew up with as a child and a man who we know as Troy, is a hard person to look at and think as a serial killer. If someone told me today that Zac Efron murdered 30+ women, I wouldn’t believe them (much like in the 70’s, nobody believed it when a attractive man could do such a thing). In the movie, the writers wanted you to almost forget that you had any prior knowledge of who Ted was and actually feel sorry for him. The movie showcases Ted from the perspective of a girl who believes he didn’t do it, which subconsciously makes you pity him too. And that’s why they chose Zac. Zac Efron is a man that young girls have admired and trusted since we were kids. When you watch the movie, you see a man that girls have trusted for years now playing a character that is put in a almost good light throughout the whole movie until the end where we are faced with the harsh reality that this man raped and murdered tons of women and almost got away with it. Having Zac play Ted was supposed to distract you.

He does want to be committed, but if the woman he falls for crosses him by dumping him or trying to run, his disturbing nature comes out, and he sorts the problem by making them disappear. I don’t think killing the objects of his affection is something he revels in, it’s very much a last resort
