Only because he had to. Joe Louis had to keep a lot to himself because he didn't want to give in to any stereotypes blacks had. @getredy- If you really believe that Chuvalo "caught" a prime Ali- you need to go back and listen to the scorecards- from both fights, which were both fought in Canada- btw. Neither one of them was close. Chuvalo was tough, took a great shot, and landed to Ali's body in the corners- but he caught way more punches than he landed. We never even saw a "prime Ali" fight. His best years were the years he wasn't allowed to fight.

@@samtotheg George Chuvalo in 66 is one of the primary weapons in demonstrating how either Louis or Marciano could have beaten "prime Ali." Ali had to check into a hospital for an overnight to have his walloped kidneys monitored, while George got dressed then took his wife out dancing. That's right from Chuvalo's own mouth. And you're right: Conn was a much better technician than Ali. People also seem to forget he lost the fights vs. Louis. Slick boxers are tough on anybody. They're not an "auto-win."

I cant believe he got up from those knockdowns. This would be a first round ko tko today. His foot work and lateral movement is really good and he has good counters but he kinda leaves himself wide open when he flurries. 2 years later in Los Angeles, Pastor was knocked down 6 times in the first round against Turkey Thomson and got up to win on points. I had him winning a few rounds before the knockout. The man was fighting a prime Louis, he got up from 4 knockdowns and went on to fight 10 rounds. I think he did very well for himself. His record shows that he was one of the best fighters of his era.

Boring fight. After the 2cd round, Louis stopped trying to KO Pastor for several rounds. Louis was content to stalk and throw a few probing punches. This was not the same Louis that almost killed Schmeling in 1 round.

he had a lot of heart an i have had the pleasure of talking to pastors daughter and he had to move up a weight class to fight him. Pastor and Louis also stayed close friends after, i have a picture of them two years after this fight

I don't believe he could beat Marciano, even in his prime. I believe Marciano never lost a fight. He was 49-0. I loved Joe, but Rocky was the greatest. Just check out his record and the fighters he went up against.

@@davisdurand You are contradicting what many boxing experts think. If you dig deep, you will admit the truth, you will see that Rocky wouldn't have a chance with prime Joe Louis, you are jealous, racist and don't understand boxing.

@@carloshenriquethomaz2578 Calling me a racist a way off the mark. I'm an 80 year old man who grew up listening to Joe Louis fight through the radio during the late 1940s and early 50s. I idolized the man. Hell, I even bought Joe Louis comic books. It really hurt when Joe lost to Ezzard Charles and then Rocky. He was well past his prime of course. That being said, watch as many videos of Rocky and Joe on KZfaq as you can, and they speak for themselves. Joe got the hell beat out of him in the first match with Max Schmeling. There is now way in hell that would happen with Rocky. In fact, Joe hit the canvas a number of times in his career as compared with Rocky.

What is amazing is how unskilled Pastor was. Hands all over the place, awkward swinging punches, dropping left after jab, no defense against right hand leads. You wonder who he beat to be NYS champ.
