I’d like to see more videos expanding the use of the secret jazz chord. It’s such a great and useful concept. Also the secundal harmony video was fantastic. Maybe expanding on that concept with quartal harmony or other ideas. Thanks for all the great content Chase!✌🏼

Fantastic, useful lines. Thanks for sharing these solid ideas. I've always have been stumped on what to play over the bridge section of " I've Got Rhythm" and many other bop tunes where the bridge cycles from the 3 dominant, to the 6 dominant, to the 2 dominant, to the five dominant. Key of BFlat: D7-G7-C7-F7. Coming up with lines that sound musical would be a lesson I'd like to see.

Great stuff Chase. I like how the third one, on A7alt, lays right up on the regular fingering for what would be fifth mode melodic minor, i.e. mixo b6. Actually, the fingering is why I even noticed. And it's actually handy, to think straight D melodic minor right through resolve to D tonic minor. Maybe on that following A7 in Stella 😉

You need to go deeper , this kind of information is everywhere on the web. But more important, study the language ! Scales, modes and arpeggios are only a part of the big picture, you can get stuck with them no matter how much you know them. Btw i know what i am talking about, been studiying at Berklee decades ago, playing pro for decades also. One more thing : Modal approach for bebop is definitly NOT appropriate ! Appropriate for postbop, provided you have a good control of what is going on before. Anyhow if one person tells you : "you should play this scale, mode or whatevever on this chord", you can be sure that it's just a f...g theorician or musicologist. Musicians never talk this way, because it's limitative. Just good for teachers to earn momey. I am not talking about Chase Maddox of course, but about others that are just promoting BS.

@@ChaseMaddox nothing specific! just thought it was cool that you're doing Sister Act, and was curious about musician-centered performance vs actor-centered performance, what rehearsals are like, and also if your focus as a performer becomes less about the audience and more about whats on stage, etc

You can come up with all the fancy titles for this video and bullshit explanations you want for this, but the bottom line is that it just doesn't sound as good as what Wes did and woulda done with this. Joe Pass and Pat Martino were choppy and just didn't have as much raw talent, instinctual feel and most of all, as much soul as Wes. He smoked them both, combined, with no problem.
