RIP Patrice

Patrice joking with Anthony were the funniest shows ever.

Nobody brought a funny bit to an end like Opie did. Patrice and Anthony would be cracking each other up and then all of a sudden you heard “Rob in Philly what’s up?”

Shitting on Opie never gets old.

He'd be a great Moe in any Simpsons live action movie.

That thing opie did announcing you just arrived is called dry snitching. He wanted to rat you out but make it seem like he wasn't.

Anthony could go toe to toe with any comedian that was in that studio. Great comics have been quoted as saying he had one of the quickest minds in comedy. I remember a moment when they were talking about how there's all these new diseases today and how its all bullshit, and Jimmy says " When I was a kid I had AHBD" Anthony asks "whats that?" Then Jimmy, trying to think quick, stumbles out "uh Adorable Huggable Boy Disorder" and without missing a beat as Jimmy was finishing the word "Disorder" Anthony says "Well I'm glad to see you've been cured". Jimmy couldn't get over how quick that came out but the crazy part is that Anthony had moments like that CONSTANTLY.

RIP Patrice Oneal

Patrice was the guy who was there to give everyone a piece of mind. He was and STILL IS helping so many people not follow through with the permanent solution to a temporary problem. He saves so many people. The man has a legacy.

After Patrice passed away, it seemed the show died with him; just very slowly & more painful. Anthony, Patrice, and Yimmy has some of the greatest dialogue I’ve ever heard on a radio/podcast.

My favorite thing about New Yorkers is that when they’re talking about driving and there’s traffic due to a car crash, the people involved in the car crash are deemed “assholes” I’ve always found that hilarious

Anthony's gift is his ability to create context. If you ever listen to him talk, he describes thinks incredibly clearly. Master communicator.

Anthony is a comedy genius. His impersonations of Tom Brokaw were always my favorite

You know Patrice is the GOAT when he wasn't mentioned once here and besides his short lived spin off show was technically just a regular guest on their show, and yet all these comments are paying him respect and mentioning his name RIP

Anthony really did have that background as a tradesman, he knew what a hard days work was like and a failed marriage too. Greg used to always say "he's been doing radio since he was 18" which made him uniquely qualified to have little to no idea of what life is like outside of million dollar contracts, the saddest part is if Opie was the one who left, the Jim and Anthony show would've probably been a hit 🤔

Anthony had the ability to gel with any comedian on the show. Which helped add to the atmosphere of funny. Honestly, he was just as funny as any guest comedian on the program.

He turned on Opie who gave him a career. And he ditched Ant when he was fired to keep his job with Opie. Jimmy has no loyalty.

I’d trade opie and Anthony for Patrice O’Neal every day of the week

That was really the greatest radio program. I use to live Howard, but once I heard them, I was hooked. I always felt it was Opies wife that got into his head.

The O&A show was the best radio the tri-state area had back in those days, far superior to Stern... but lets be honest, Anthony WAS the reason it was so good. Opie knew it, too. Anthony is a real talent.

Ant knew what real work was so he was humble to put up with a guy he didn’t like just to keep the radio gig running.... Opie been doing radio since he was 18 🤣

I've gone to compilations of Ant making Jim laugh, just to hear it for a few minutes, not even the whole thing. It's just nice to hear someone funny making someone laugh, someone who appreciates the funny. Two funny guys, making each other laugh. In terms of core dynamic, with no Patrice or Louis or Burr or anyone else in studio, it was the chemistry between Ant and Jim that that made it worth listening to, albeit in the knowledge that you'd have to suffer Opie's permanenstruation. Opie ended up paneling that show, but beyond that, he started to sabotage the funny by going to calls, or texts. Cutting the legs out from under them, _and_ people like Patrice and Louis.

Why Opie wasn’t great: 1. Soundboard: his soundboard jokes and additions always lasted at least 5 minutes and/or they were used to piggyback on someone else’s joke and totally beat it to death 2. I can’t blame him too much for taking calls because it’s his job, but he wasn’t graceful with it. The guys would be in tears laughing about a joke and keeping it going and Opie would take a call right at the peak of it and ruin it. But again, I’m sure it’s part of his contract to take calls frequently 3. His sense of humor isn’t even close to the Anthony, Jim, and Patrice. Good example is Jim was doing an impression of a sorcerer in a “Weird News Stories” set and it was hysterical. The whole studio was cracking up (i can post a link to it if you guys want) and at the end, the character “had to leave” and became invisible. Opie, like a bratty kid, couldn’t resist saying “but you’re not invisible...you’re still here” and ruining the joke. The more Jim and Anthony tried to salvage it to end the joke properly, the more Opie tried sabotaging them and it made it really awkward 4. He really like to brag about his life. It really does sound like he’s experienced some shit in his time, but not every story requires a comparison. He loves reminding everyone that he’s seen some shit and almost constantly dwells on it. Sometimes when he bring it up, it doesn’t even go along with what they’re saying, it’s just arrogant and annoying. In conclusion: Opie has a great eye for finding talent but can’t keep up with it. He really would’ve done better with the behind the scenes stuff.

Ant and Jimmy were always the two funniest guys on the show. Opie had a few moments here and there, but not like the others.

Hahahaha did he just tell a story where he was late in a professional setting as a way to show how someone else is an asshole????

So one big issue they had was for Anthony, it was strictly a professional relationship, like business partners. While Opie wanted them to be more like friends/family? I mean, I get it. You work with someone that long for two decades, but some people just look at it as work. No matter how long.

Anthony is tremendously talented, Jim Norton too. I think they still needed a good third person in there to help drive the conversation. Patrice was often great for that. The support staff for OnA also really helped the show along.

This was really eye-opening. I always thought Anthony was the funnier guy on the show, and of course love Jim Norton. I wasn’t a regular listener to O & A, although I was for a while, and I was listening in my car when the whole St. Patrick’s Cathedral thing happened. I remember thinking that might get them in trouble. I didn’t know how bad the fallout was going to be. I genuinely think if Anthony wanted to do stand-up, and put an hour together he would sell out theaters. I have heard similar sentiments from some very successful comedians. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
