Former CIA contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden shocked the world when he revealed the misdeeds of the US intelligence community and its allies. Now living in Russia, he is a noted privacy advocate and author who serves as president of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. His book, Permanent Record, is now available in paperback from Henry Holt and Company.

He may have ended up giving up more than that. We (the public at large) will need to choose between being free from prying eyes and our internet activities. Governments are no strangers to removing things they don't own such as minerals, liberties and freedoms, and at bets will charge a fee for returning what wasn't theirs to begin with. Iran 1953 to present day Ghana governments need to be stopped.

@ryanchenault80
@ryanchenault80 3 жыл бұрын
There was a time that i felt the same way. Every movie and documentary sure furthered that narrative. What those films didnt get into is that he did not do what he did out of patriotism. He did it because thats the mission he was given by the CIA. This happened at a time when surveillance as we know it today was first forming and that there a fierce rivalry to say the least between the CIA and the NSA over which agency was going going to be the United States premier and most well funded intelligence apparatus. The CIA wanted it bad enough for its many dark and nefarious activities takings place around the globe that they were willing to place an operative at the NSA to blow the whistle causing a scandal that would result in the NSA being disbanded. Leaving the CIA as the head of the already massive group of American intelligence entities. Blowing the whistle to restore liberty and privacy to your fellow countrymen is not the same as blowing the whistle to take down one constitution trampling agency just so another even more corrupt can take its place. I get some people would find the Hollywood version much much less unsettling than reality but before you reply by telling me in wrong look in to it a little. You may have to dig a little deeper than asking Siri but the information is there for anyone to read. He is not a patriot from where I'm standing.

Straw man argument. No one says patriotism is loyalty to a government. And the idea that 'Patriotism is a constant effort to do good for the people of your country" is license for every nutcase to say whatever they believe is for the greater good. The people burning down buildings and rioting in the streets claimed it was for the good of the country, but tell that to the people who had their businesses and lives destroyed. Patriotism is meant to be love of home, love of your country. A patriot doesn't say "My country right or wrong" but will at least give their country the benefit of the doubt now and then. A lot of people could try doing that now and then.

@@amsob77 A government isn't to control a country it's to serve it. It's to serve the people who belong to that country. Caring about your country starts by caring about those in it, not a created body that has been corrupted by power and greed. It's nearly impossible to love a country that ignores freedom for the fight over security. It's the land of the free not land of the safe. Freedoms we have provide safety to us. The rule of thumb is "My rights end where your rights begin". A patriot will say if their country is doing right or wrong because if the citizens don't keep the country in check who will? Giving the benefit of the doubt is the same as turning a blind eye to what is really going on

This guy's actions directly resulted in the death of several government agents overseas. Which resulted in black operations failing. Which then resulted in literal tens thousands of people dying, over the past decade or so. Which I was lectured on by Snowden's commanding officer, at the time, when I made a similar point, being ignorant of why he is actually in trouble myself, as well. I get it is hard to connect these dots without exactly knowing what those black ops were, or why the US government was performing them. I am for the most part, still in that boat too... but if you think about it, and look into it, you'll probably be able to verify that this is actually quite likely the result of such a heavy government leak of information to foreign nations. I mean, why do you think Russia loves Snowden? Snowden is the best Russian spy in the history of the world, and they didn't even have to pay him. But yes, he does have some good ideas too. The truth is though, that morality is a social construct which when you follow, sometimes results in more immoral consequences than following basic moralities. Sometimes without the full extent of understanding for the moral actions, you are unaware of your immoral consequences... but that doesn't necessarily make you innocent. Good people sadly do bad things. Snowden is a great example of that. Brilliant good guy that fucked up very bad trying to do something he viewed as good, while being ignorant to the consequences.

I support him like others also said but I think the problem more people didn't initially stand up for him is prob due to the same reason that I did not myself immediately , and that reason is there was a total media blackout on his whistleblowing and I due to not using social media I simply did not hear about Snowden or what he did for us until honestly a few years after his initial whistleblowing and coming forward. Based on that I'm gonna bet many more others who didn't intially stand up for this man are prob due to the same reason I just explained , they prob were not aware due to a total media blackout, when he first blew the whistle I still wasnt 100% aware that the MSM outlets were totally corrupt and entirely full of shit with almost every story they air , nor would I have imagined back then the media intentionally not covering a story that if further widespread and talked about would benefit the American people , I was much much more gullible and just simply not aware of just how badly and immensely we've all been lied to regarded just about everything our govt and MSM had told us as he first blew the whistle in I believe 2012 , my life and my person were much different back then and still a few years away from when I'd initially begin to slowly start to see through the lies and deception and wake up essentially as some say. This man is a true patriot and given how badly silicon valley and our govt both demonize him constantly really is working against them because that's simply causing the people to truelly see how deep the tyranny is rooted.

Can’t help but think of my father in law, who we disagreed about so many thing’s politically, but we loved our discussions over time. We always left one another after heated discussions with the idea that we both thought we had learned a different perspective on everything. What a different world we had then…..

I'll agree that he is good. But not that it is an art form. It is an art form relative to how interviews are done by most others because they are mostly corporate shills, pushing a narrative, not looking for real answers.

Rogan totally misses the point about the cake bakers. They didn't have a problem with serving gay people. They had a problem with taking part in the wedding by baking the cake for the wedding, which would have been against their faith. They would have sold them a cake, coffee, muffins, ect. But it was the baking of the cake expressly for the wedding ceremony that, according to the bakers' faith, does not exist and would be sinful to take part in the make belief nature of it. They were not just simply refusing to serve gay people.

The fact that Edward Snowden gave up everything to reveal this to the general public should make him a national hero and people still call him a traitor. It is quite upsetting and most people don’t care in the least or are too stupid to realize what’s up.
