Then a year later I quit drinking alcohol and started on the Keto diet. 30 months from my 65th birthday I was a non smoking, non drinking svelt 190 pound guy. 6 years later I’m 71 years old and still no smoking, no drinking and under 200 lbs.👍

I’ve been 348 pounds for about a year now. Used to be able to eat 5 jack in the box entrees just for dinner alone plus whatever I would have for lunch and breakfast and snacking constantly. Back in April starting on the 12th I started making changes to my diet including spiralized vegetables in place of pasta and cauliflower rice in place of regular rice in addition to cutting out most bread and lactose and cutting down a lot on sugar plus I drink acv every day. Today I weighed in at 301 pounds. My goal was to get below 300 by September 20th(beginning of fall). Thanks to these simple changes and now only eating 1-2 meals a day, I am less hungry, have created a caloric deficit, exercise daily, and I will be shattering my goal by almost a month. After I get below 300, my new goal will be 275 by the end of the year.

I struggled with weight growing up, I drank a lot of soda, I weighed 215 in 8th grade, was 6 foot 2+ but, when I got to be an adult I got in great shape. Last year in December I went to the doctor, I weighed 300 pounds. I couldn't believe it, the most shocking part was that the doctor was obese himself and didn't even mention it. I knew then I had to do something. But I continued to do the same things I had been doing. I was speaking to a coworker one day and said, yeah, I eat horrible food every day and it makes me feel like sh!t, it made me open my eyes seriously. I took a long look in the mirror, lost 100 pounds and feel like I'm in my twenties again. I have a toddler, and want to set the best example I can. Another thing that helped was coaching my son's tee-ball team. Those kids 3-4 year olds, didn't care about baseball, didn't even know what it was, but every day we played or practiced, they tried their hardest. I said why don't I do that? Anyway, as you can probably imagine, my life has improved, my relationship with my significant other has improved, I'm a better parent, worker, and person. Diet really matters.

My doctor told me not to go low-carb and just count calories even though I was showing signs of insulin resistance. She also told me not to worry so much about building muscle or exercising because weight loss is 90% diet. I’m a 5’2 woman with PCOS and I was gaining weight eating 1200 calories a day, and going for a jog 3 times per week. I followed doctors orders despite this and ended up with nutrient deficiencies and ovarian cysts. My cortisol levels were also borderline too high. My doctor assumed I was lying about diet and exercise. I’m so glad I actually learned about endocrinology and nutrition in college enough that I could read into the latest research and eventually understand that my doctor’s advice was ridiculous. I needed to improve my sensitivity to insulin by taking inositols, building muscle, doing yoga, eating low carb, intermittent fasting, eating anti-inflammatory foods and managing stress. I can eat 1400-1600 calories per day and still be in a deficit now that my insulin resistance, vitamin deficiencies and inflammation are addressed. Work smarter before you work harder! And don’t assume your doctor is up-to-date on the latest research!
@williamdiazsantos74189 күн бұрын
You probably were not actually eating 1200 calories. If you stay on deficit long enough all those benefits will come without doing all that nonsense. All you’ve done is increased activity and indirectly gone into a higher deficit. Changing the other patterns that you mentioned literally do nothing, if anything it does the opposite of balancing anything.
@Updog899 күн бұрын
@@williamdiazsantos7418 In most definitely know how to count calories, I’ve been doing it my whole life with registered dietitians teaching me. I gained weight at that time because I put on lots of inflammatory fluid from The over exercise and hormonal imbalances, and my metabolism slowed down so much I was actually referred by my endocrinologist to be studied in a university lab. My BMR was only 1090 at the time. No offense but I’m going to trust literal scientists on this over you internet stranger. I was not able to lose fat without eating so little I developed nutrient deficiency. My hair was out in chunks, I was fainting regularly, I was deeply depressed and unable to focus, my nails were brittle, I looked like I was going through chemo. It’s not super common for cases to be this extreme but it does happen and people need to understand how to lose the weight by working with their body rather than against it. Why would I lose weight in a way that made me sicker and more miserable when I could just lose it in a way that made me healthier? My insulin and cortisol level are almost completely normal now and my BMR is closer to 1200, so as long as I’m active I can eat way more while still losing weight because of it. It’s a no-brainer.

For me losing weight was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I lost 70 pounds in 6 months ( from 230 to 160 ) . Good thing I’ve been able to maintain a healthy weight since then using a good diet/ good exercise routine . But it was so hard at the beginning , People say it’s easy to just “ put the fork down “ or to just “ stop eating this and that “ but in reality it’s no where close to being that easy especially when your diet is really bad and you eat a lot. Honestly the only reason why I was able to go on my diet in the first place and last throughout it was because I started to have stomach problems so I had to. If it wasn’t for the stomach problems I probably would have stayed the way I was .

What they say in the first 2 minutes is SO TRUE! A guy I went to college with lost like 50 pounds because instead of consuming 2500 calories in one meal once a day, he started consuming those 2500 calories in smaller meals over the course of the day. Gave him more energy during the day so he started doing more physical things like going on walks more. It’s so true that sometimes, overweight people are not eating an insane amount compared to others. Just eating incorrectly.
@mdskydive72456 ай бұрын
For me and many many thousands of others, eating once a day or eating in a small window of time has had the same effect. It is not wrong, and I am not saying eating many times a day is wrong. Although eating many times a day spikes your insulin many times a day which makes it harder to lose weight for many many people. I broke my back and gained tons of weight because of the inactivity. Went to intermittent fasting and cut way back on carbs and lost over 40 pounds while recovering and with zero exercise. Lost even more now that I can move. So there are many ways to lose weight and the intermittent fasting is just one large very proven method that works. It is just as important what you eat as to when you eat. 2,000 calories of high carbs can slam the weight on you much faster than 2,000 calories of healthy fats and low carbs. Calories are not all alike.

The main takeaway; High Stress = Fat. This is incredibly accurate. I’ve been exercising properly and intensely for many years, eat very clean, all my vitals are ideal for my age and my doctor even said I have “above average cardio levels for my age” (24y/o man). However, I have severe stress which makes me looks chubby, especially around my midsection and face. But I’ll notice when my stress levels go down, I lean up quite significantly. When they go up, I puff back up.

No one ever said it would be easy. I'm 48 years old and my metabolism crashed around age 42. But when you've got people losing weight on Twinkie diets and not doing any exercise it's kinda hard to argue that you need all the technical terminology that this guy discussed. Heck, there's a guy who lost weight doing nothing but drinking beer and popping multivitamins. Interestingly, some of his other "numbers" (cholesterol, blood pressure) also improved! . Too, we know there weren't any fat prisoners in Auschwitz. Going to have to explain that one .... and if you haven't tried that, then no, I'm sorry, you haven't tried "everything." You've tried some things. All diets are just tricks to get you to consume fewer calories. Every. Single. One. Keto, Paleo, Juice-diet, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Fasting, etc. It doesn't matter. If you boil every one of those down to their basic premise, it comes down to this: "Consume fewer calories." But if the trick doesn't work and you fall off the wagon, then of course you won't lose weight. Bottom line: Go on a 1,200 calorie per day diet for a month and then check your results.

I set a goal of losing ideally 40 lbs but realistically 20 lbs at the beginning of summer and now at the end I'm down 36, from 364 to 328. I'm hoping for 315 by the end of the year. Most people lose weight easier in warmer weather but I'm the opposite as I struggle with sweet drinks to help with the heat, and replace it with unsweetened tea in cold weather. So I'm hopeful! My end goal is to be 220 in 4-5 years. I have a broad frame and I am some what taller so a somewhat muscular 220 would be a good weight for me, not looking to be in model shape, I'm in my mid thirties and have been hit by to many injuries and illnesses to delude myself with that being realistic for me. A stocky build is doable and vastly better than I am now. Replacing pasta with unprocessed grains and potatoes, way upping my fat intake, focusing on protein and reducing carbs to a realistic degree.

My old roommate is obese and she would often hide her trash. She would eat out every day for multiple meals and she often bough snacks at those food chains (e.g. cookie, milkshake). She didn't workout and she was very sedentary throughout the day (we worked together on campus). I think a lot of people eat out every day and therefore consume thousands of calories. When someone who is overweight or of a normal weight goes out to eat with someone obese they compare their food consumption. Then all parties come to the conclusion that the obese person just has a metabolic issue. When in reality the obese person doesn't cook for themselves and doesn't workout (in the gym or throughout the day at work)

A great thing about creating a diet for a certain length of time is how it translates your mood into creating more disclipline for yourself in other fields. Organising and rearranging that one aspect of your life will spill into other areas of your life and improve them. For example, you get up earlier, or start becoming more productive with your time. Take up a new hobbies, begin new projects - because food becomes a substinence and no longer an indulgence to you. This will have a positive impact on your hormone levels. So for many, including me, our diet is our discipline. Which diet did I take? "Zero" carb, for a month. Eating was hella boring, but taking up excercise felt like the best compliment for it. I lost practically a stone in 2 weeks.

@@caliv0608 It could work, but way faster with the hormonal effects of intermittent fasting. HGH and insulin sensitivity especially. I do wonder if eating frequently is fine as long as your lover never really fills up, which if I'm right means not much insulin would be needed. Never was a fan of intermittent fasting unless it fits your lifestyle and you like to do that. I could be wrong though. I think calorie deficit with 4-6 small meals a day could be more beneficial, and you'll probably feel better throughout the day. But if 1 big meal a day fits your life, then fasting is probably the best thing to do.

@@LucianoOGgt I just don't think it's natural to eat so many times every day. Do hunters/ people long ago eat 6 small meals? 2 or 3, and once a week 0 might be ideal. He said for lunch he would go to White Castle and get a 10pc Moz sticks. 4 burgers,fries and drink. When he started counting calories he had no idea that one meal was almost his daily intake. When you go to McDonalds one burger is or above 1000 calories. Then you eat a second and fries and a coke. That shit adds up. Lastly when you eat healthier you feel better. I still find it fascinating that a hormone can reek so much havoc. I just turned 32 and little over 3 months ago I was diagnosed as a late onset type 1 diabetic. I’ve always been in good shape, played sports since I was 5 and I workout constantly. I went from 230 to 160lbs in just a few months . I never been sick or went to the hospital other then for a couple broken bones. I thought whatever was going on would pass but it didn’t. I finally schedule a appointment went to the doctors and they ran test. Said they would call me in a couple days and get me back within a week or two. 2 days later on a Monday morning at 815 the doctors called and demanded I come In now. When I got there doctor looked at me and said “ you’re not well” for starters your body is going heywire my cholesterol was 1600 “normal is 150” I have a thyroid condition, I’m going into organ failure and I’m what they call a late onset type 1 diabetic. I had an A1c of 17+ and blood glucose of 600. My point of the story is don’t be like me and most men who thinks whatever is going on with u will pass and fight thru it. Listen to your body. In 1980, people probably didn’t sit around and watch KZfaq. This is especially true for children, who make up a large portion of that increased percentage. Kids played outside and learned to be active. They didn’t have to have their parents helicopter over them the whole time either. It was normal to see groups of kids riding bikes together or playing games. Now with the 24-hour new cycle, everyone is paranoid that the streets are infested with perverts and child predators. These days, if you let your kids walk to the park by themselves, you are a bad parent. Better to let them play video games inside where it’s “safe”.

Great explanation. I have spent long periods of time overseas and every time I leave the United States I seem to lose weight and every time I return to the United States I gain weight. I have identified several factors that have affected me personally. First, is the large amounts and low quality of foods that we consume here. We have to stop eating fast food and junk food or we are never going to get a hold of the obesity problem. Second is the sedentary lifestyles we have. Without a question we need to move our bodies more. Third is the relatively poor healthcare system we have. We have good facilities, good doctors, hospitals, medications, etc., but it is expensive and inaccessible to many, and fourth, the stress. We live in a very stressful country where they have sold us the idea that we should be working, working, working all the time and we get excited when we get two weeks vacation per year. We are stressed out, fatigued, and addicted to junk food.

I started at 314 lbs and I didn't really feel that bad, I had my friends and family who loved me and I was known as funny big brother. and then one day my younger brother wanted my help on a math problem. he's on the second floor of my house. by the time I got up the stairs I had a tight shortness of breath. I started seeing spots and I had to take a breather. I am supposed to be the example and I was being weak. so I finally bought a scale and every day I jogged as far as I could and walk back. I only drank water and only ate once my stomach really growled. it's been about 5 months and I'm down to 246 lbs. it was hard and my shins hurt and my stomach never growled much but It's been progress. I do feel better and stairs don't scare me as they used to but the reason I did it was so I could keep being the funny big brother and not the dead big brother in 15,10 or 5 years. Read Dr.Atkins book titled Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. He explains ketosis and low carb dieting very thoroughly in this book, it's so easy to understand. Its the book my dad followed to loose 275 lb in a year and 2 months. He kept with low carb eating, he ate all the meat and fat he wanted and got healthy. He started with zero carbs and no caffeine for a week to get the body into the state of ketosis. He used Keto Sticks they are urine test strips. After the first week he gradually added more carbs but not exceeding 40 grams of carbs per day through out his weight loss journey. If the body is in the state of ketosis it can not store fat it can only shed fat and other toxic weight so he ate all the fat and calories he wanted to keep himself satisfied while ketosing. There is no need to count calories as long as you are keeping your carb intake low enough to keep you ketosing. Forty grams of carbs per day is a recommended limit to keep the body in the state of ketosis. If you have a cheat day or cheat meal your body may stop ketosing because of overconsumption of carbs so all you have to do after a cheat day is start over by eating zero carbs and no caffeine for a week to get yourself back into a nice deep ketosis. Caffeine spikes insulin thus slowing weighloss so some people restrict it completely even after the first week to avoid slowed weightloss. Eating fat , especially rich animal fats , while ketosing causes the body to ketose more heavily, provides energy, satisfies appetite healthily, lubricates intestines , eyes and skin and is crucial for organ function including the brain. Animal meats should not be restricted either they are too important for replenishing the muscles and organs. Also, no colon cleansers are needed on a diet that causes the body to ketose, in fact it can be detrimental. I made that mistake and almost killed my kidneys it hurt so bad so I quit colon cleansers while keto dieting and I felt so much better. Ketosis causes the body to naturally cleanse itself including the colon. The body works hard enough while ketosing to shed weight on its own. There are veggies allowed in the first week about 1 cup per day they are practically zero carb. They are listed in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book. He also wrote a book giving carb count content of many foods to help you stay on track. I've read both of these books. Keto Sticks are urine test strips. Test every day. If your test shows pink/purple color it means you're ketosing. The darker the pink/purple color means the heavier you're ketosing meaning the faster you are loosing weight. If your test shows no pink/purple color it means you are not ketosing not loosing weight but gaining weight so you have to keep eating zero carbs and no caffeine until pink/purple color shows on your test. Eating practically zero carbs for a week should get your body into deep ketosis. Sorry to repeat myself but I hope this info helps people loose weight fast like my dad did. I don't rely on the Atkins foods for weightloss though because I don't like the sweeteners and other ingredients in alot of them. I mostly eat meat, fat, low carb veggies and low carb fruit ,nuts not so many cashews, unlimited butter, full fat sour cream and mayo. I pray you understand it completely in Jesus' name. God's blessings to ya! 😉

I have very poor family eating habits and genetics I was always overweight. In high school I played football and weighed almost 285 pounds 6'1'. I ballooned up to 355 pounds as an adult as I worked in an office and was very sedentary. I had high blood pressure sleep apnea, and foot knee and back pain. I decided to talk to a doctor and had gastric bypass surgery. I got all the way down to 220 pounds and now am stable at 250 pounds. I now take no medicine and feel great. My bp is 120/75. It was extreme but I was going to die and couldnt lose weight. I am so happy I did it it changed my life. It also changed my professional life. I didnt realize how people treated me differently when I was big and now that I am a normal weight and look good, I got a better senior management job making well over six figures and I think it was partially because I am no longer overweight I look more professional.
@nathanscovell289510 ай бұрын
For me, I really had to push it to the extreme. It was either go extreme or do nothing. I work out the upper body every Monday and Thursday, each workout has a cardio workout either elliptical or treadmill for about 15-20 minutes before actually lifting. Each weight train has to have a minimal of 15 specific exercises and starts with a great Battle Rope and Med Ball Slam routine. The Battle Rope usually runs about 8-10 for 40 seconds each of sets where I change the style of rope swinging. For instance, I do squat high waves for one, then do the next on my knees, then the third I do a rope slam (santa waves), outside curls and then inside curls. Usually I pick one to do three times in a row between med ball slams. But then I go into lifting where I do 12-15 different lifts 3 sets with 8-10 reps each. Then later on in the day I do either a mile breaststroke swim or jog 2-3 miles at a 12-13 minute a mile pace. Tuesdays is leg day where I intro a 20-30 minute on elliptical/treadmill. I still do ropes but change it to jump squat waves, side lunge waves, russian twist waves. Then into typical dumbbell/cable/barbell exercises with about three machines. 3 sets with 10 reps each on that. Usually I try to do as many leg exercises to where it's about 12. But then I finish off the workout with a good 2 mile run. Wednesday and Fridays is always my HIIT days. Before HIIT I do a good 20 min elliptical where I keep a good 140-150 strides a min. Or I try to do a 10 min mile on the treadmill. HIIT is a class... so it is mainly 6 series. In each series we have one cardio exercises and then one weight exercise, 3 sets each for about 40 seconds. So that comes to 6 sets in one series. In between each set is a 10 or 15 second rest. These exercises are based upon whatever the trainer decides to do that day. Sometimes he focuses on arms one day. Legs another and then core on another. It all depends. But those HIIT's are amazing. I have an active calorie burn goal of 750 a day and I hit that 750 pretty quick. My heart rate is running at a good 150-155 by the second series and I feel great. Saturdays is strictly cardio. So I do a 5K club at my gym where we run 3.10 miles in the morning. Then I usually go to a spin class where I've been progressively getting much better. I can actually maintain a station 3 setting for a while without wanting to kill myself. At the end of the spin, I might do a 20 min elliptical or a nice mile breaststroke swim and then call it a day. Sundays is usually a rest day, but I do like to swim a good mile in the morning and then a nice two mile walk at night with the wife. But I tend to do that two mile walk every single night each day as well. When it comes to food. I do eat a great deal of protein and if you're lifting this is real important. I take vitamin D every morning I chug whey shakes. I love eggs and turkey sausage for breakfast. But also go with a high protein Kelloggs cereal with Almond milk. I stay away from bad sugars though, which isn't too bad. Fruits like apples and bananas actually start to taste way better when you abandon crappy sugars like candy. Recently I have developed an obsession over georgia peaches and since I live in Florida... I get them by the plenty. I eat a lot of raw fish cause sushi is from the Lord. Seriously the best stuff on the planet. I try to eat as little rice as I can with, but its such a good combo. I love grilled chicken cut up and put into a salad. For the most part I don't stay away from pastas and good spices in food. I might have a cheat day once a week where I slam a soda or get some ice cream with the family. I snack in between big meals with things like cheese and half an avocado. Maybe a spoonful of peanut butter or popcorn. This is all just summaries. I tend not to overthink the food stuff. Really the best thing is to avoid alcohol. It may bother people but it's a good thing to do. I'm married and my wife is working out everyday as well, so we do it a lot. Then we sleep. I never stay awake past 10:00 pm. anymore and I will be up by 6 or 6:30... depending on if it's summer break for my kids schooling. I might sleep in on Sunday for maybe an extra hour... but that's only if there is no light shining into the room. Oh yea, drink loads of water. Just go insane in drinking as much water as you can during the day.

He was asking his clients if they were willing to change their eating habits by eating cleaner and healthier and in the beginning, even go with stricter diet. If they weren’t willing to change their diet, he wasn’t accepting those customers, even if they wanted to pay a lot of money. He knew how important of a role the food played in achieving results.

That's actually a good business move on his part as well. @@kenchester3072 cutting carbs is not what makes you loose weight it’s called being in a caloric deficit.

@@storm2945 But it's very hard to do caloric deficit eating tons of carbos, since eating carbs makes you hungry all the time

people make fun on fat people, but no one ever considers that some people just have really bad genetics when it comes to being fat. My genetics are very good when it comes to weight, I eat a lot and I’m still in very good shape… I know other people who do a tone of dieting and exercise and they literally count the calories they consume, but still they are overweight. genetics play a HUGE part

the genetics don't make you fat, the excess calories make you fat. If you are in calorie deficit you will lose weight. The people who aren't losing are lying to themselves about their calorie intake.

I’m officially 201 pounds. I’m so embarrassed and I don’t know how to stop my food addiction. I have overproduction of acid in my stomach coupled with IBS that usually subsides when I eat something. That coupled with my addiction to sugar and poor sleep has gotten me to this point. I don’t know where to start…

When the pandemic hit, I was three years into a stable job and had gained 25 pounds since I started. Lost all my abs and got a big gut. Since then, the only thing I've stopped eating was fast food. Started working out more, already lost all the weight. You can do anything you put your mind too.

@Paul Smith Maybe when you're young and your metabolism is still quick. I remember being in high school and saying the same stuff you just did. Once your metabolism changes that fast food won't come out the same as it did before. And if you still got that quick metabolism, good on ya but I'm 100% sure all that fatty grease is still coating the inside of your arteries.

I used to be the high school student that would eat anything, i weighed around 145pounds, now i weigh 160, it’s not much but i fan clearly see it went to my guts so i completely understand your point. Luckily i took action early on because it makes things much easier
