when i went on a group adventure holiday 26yrs ago we went to the gold museum in perus capital and joe was there with his wife. i didnt know he spoke spanish and he smiled as i recognised him. none of the others in the group knew who he was.....funny....Then years later an american woman who had the stall next to me in camden was a journalist in the usa and had told me she toured with the clash/wrote about them when i met her.....years later Joe came in the market and she spoke to him and a reggae tune came on and we all danced in front of her stall....Then i saw him at primal scream gig in london as guy we knew was their tour manager! always lovely and approachable and unassumingly humble. RIP Joe ....well missed

I was there. I remember it like it was yesterday. The sad thing I remember is that there was only a hand full of people there to see them. A lot of people at the event didn’t even bother to stick around. What a lack of respect for this Legend. Glad I did though. One of my favorite Musicians that I got to see before his untimely death later on that year. R.I.P. Clash City Rocker

I was guest list at the Hootenanny show in Irvine, having played it several times with my then band, Los Infernos.. That same weekend I guess. I thought it was only at Oak Canyon that weekend and that was his last show in America. Anyway, I was strolling around the back stage area with my bro's in Manic Hispanic as we come up on his bus just before set time and BAM! The bus door flies open and Joe and the band spill out laughing over something. Was one of the few times I got star struck. There he was right in front of me, looking at all of us, recognizing the homies in Manic by attire and a whole very surrealistic meeting took place. He then went on to do a killer set. A lot of Clash tunes especially. God bless Joe Strummer.

According to Mick Jagger’s brother Joe Jagger, Joe Strummer died of a faulty heart valve which Mick Jagger had too but his was replaced (by a pig heart valve). I know a heart nurse in her early 30’s who ran marathons and cycled round Loch Ness who had the same condition and her heart valve was replaced too.

Saw him almost 3 years to the day earlier at Milwaukee's Summerfest, "The World's Largest Musical Festival" (even if 99% of acts are crap) on 3rd July '99. They ended with "London Calling" if memory serves right. I was with a good friend of mine, he always chided me for always preaching about Clash/Strummer, and he said at the end "Damn, they were the only band that mattered", even though it was obviously just Joe that he saw. After the show, Strummer came right out on to the public walkway adjacent to the back stage entrance, and he talked to or took pics with almost everyone that came up to him. All I could say was "I'm honored" and he said with that unmistakable voice "For what?". I replied something to the effect of "to meet you" and he cracked back something like " I could say the same thing". There will never be a musical artist who championed people's rights, and humanity in general, like St. Joe. Still miss him almost 21 years later.

Not to be a smart arse but it was not Joe’s last show, his last show was in Liverpool uk a show he put on for free but all the proceeds went o the families of the fire rescue team. And Joe did not know that Mick Jones was in the audience and he got up on the stage to play the last three songs,so call me cynical but The Clash never died. And that was 3 days before Joe passed on.

The day that Joe moved onto another dimension(i can not accept that he is not with us anymore ) I got rushed into hospital with a potential heart attack (all be it a minor one) I got back home to find out that Mr Strummer had past on with a heart attack.Call me cynical but I have followed Joe right through his career starting with the 101ers straight through to the only band that mattered The Clash then onto the Mescalero so.I am not the only one who says that Joe was the king.My point is I genuinely think I felt his pain on his last day on earth. The 22.12.2002 is one of the saddest days of my life.Long live the pUnK rock warlord, gone but NEVER forgotten.Me and Ray Gange(the clash’s roadie set up a charity event called Strummerville in the man’s honour.Keep fighting for the underdog.Hail hail Joe😂
