We've a World Cup winner in the House of Rugby! Barry Murphy, Andrew Trimble and Jerry Flannery are joined in the House of Rugby studio by Felix Jones, who was part of the South Africa coaching team that helped the Springboks to World Cup glory.

Rugby in South Africa is bigger in the Black communities than people understand. Siya is from 3 generations of rugby players. Mapimpi would have played rugby at school although a rural school. The Eastern Cape which is where these men are from is the hub pf black rugby. Then the Western Cape is a hub for coloured players. There's 100 years of rugby in these communities.

Would also be interesting to have the North African immigrants who have settled in SA to start playing rugby. They are generally bigger and faster than the local black community.Mario Itoje - Nigerian parents, Madosh Tambwe - DRC born playing for the Sharks, Thierry Dusautoir - born Ivory Coast playing for France. Vincent Tshituka - DRC born playing for Lions. SA has a huge potential to attract similar North African/ foreign born players and we should use it our advantage similarly to what the NH countries do.

@@TheJediPimp007 - actually it would be nicer to see the African nations you've mentioned develop rugby within those countries

@@TheJediPimp007 those countries are similar to Fiji, Samoa & Tonga their athletes are just monstrous. You battle to tell the difference between the forwards or backs. Have to agree with ZO15... For the game to grow they should develop their own nations rugby. That aside was grateful for Beast coming over from Zim. He was a machine in the final & 2009 British & Irish Lions series. All things considered our RSA livestock is not to shabby either.

I actually feel like the Eastern Cape is a sleeping giant in terms of producing rugby players. If they can get some investment in terms of infrastructure, they are gonna be a conveyor belt of quality.

From the line of questions that Felix got, especially from Jerry, it seems to me that they think that the whole doing it for your nation is what allowed SA to win. The truth is, SA has amazing rugby infrastructure and culture, we are a legit powerhouse in the world of rugby. We didn't win because our nation has problems, we did it because we have amazing players, coaches and systems in place. For a large percentage of the country, rugby is THE sport, it takes precedence over all others, and that is why we have such good players. England doesn't have that, they have soccer as their number 1, SA and NZ have rugby as their number 1 sport and it shows. Cheslin Kolbe, if he was born in another country, would probably be in athletics (his cousin is Wayde Van Niekerk), De Allende played soccer in school and would probably have stayed in soccer if he had been in another country, but they got into rugby because in Cape Town, like other parts of the country, it is THE major sport. It is hard to compete with that.
