Gatsby is our Basset Hound puppy. She was clearly bred for rabbit hunting.

I had a basset and a rabbit too. The two were inseparable. They were always playing together, trying to steal food together, or just sleeping side by side on the couch. I miss them both. Bassets are great dogs if you have other pets. Not a mean bone in their bodies.

@@user-ir6pn3of3i Nah, I've seen plenty of KZfaqrs with dogs and multiple animals they would eat in the wild. Once you are feeding you dog regularly there is no reason it should attack as long as you have properly socialised the dog, especially with multiple different animal species as well as multiple dogs and people.

That rabbits spine can snap so easily. If they kick too hard they can break their back. Some accidents you can't come back from, so mom has the right idea.

one summer a rabbit would graze bunch grass in the middle of our lane and peaches, our basset, would stalk it, and it let her get close before bolting and Peaches howled after it wagging her tail all the while.... a good time was had by all

I had a basset who LOVED my bunny, she would lay on her side and let Sam I Am (the bunny) run around her in circles doing the Bunny 500. They'd snuggle and takes naps together, another rabbit hunter!! LOL Enjoy your baby, bassets are the BEST!!

SWM 1 Exactement ! Tu as raison ! Yup, you’re right. Bassets are a French invention, bred to smell out bunnies. But bassets are so mellow, that if they personally met face to face with anything, they’d love it. They’re just very sweet animals.

It’s lovely to see the two of them playing together like that but there is no way I could have a rabbit in the house. I reckon it would be about 17 seconds before there would be bits of rabbit all over the house - my dog loves chasing rabbits but fortunately wild rabbits have enough sense to run away and they are very quick.
