Hallowell keeps moving further and further away from what ADHD is. He talks about unexplained underachievement being the main symptom as well as lost keys, zoning out, being moody, creativity, intuition, imagination. That's 99% of the population. Most of us are pissed off in the jobs we do or feel we underachieve. These are the main symptoms I've seen. difficulties concentrating, planning, ignoring distractions, impulse control, sleepiness, maladaptive daydreaming, anxiety, time blindness, rejection sensitivity. Explain to me Ned, with your English degree, your medical degree, 40 plus years of being a psychiatrist, writer of 20 books, driving cars, how you suffer from difficulty concentrating, ignoring distractions, time blindness and RD. The truth is you are a lying opportunist, who is out to make money and a career on the back of the dubious diagnosis ADHD. You have ruthlessly marketed it and promoted it and being a cheerleader for it and are one of those responsible for the 11% of kids diagnosed in the US, when the DSM says 5%. You don't care as long as more people are drugged and diagnosed and your career continues to go from strength to strength. This guy has ADHD as much as I've got AIDS. Ignore him people. He's laughing at you. He's an extremely sick, dangerous and warped person.

i have a friend who has this mindset/add, and i was thinking the same thing, that it's really an asset not a liability unless you think it is. but something i notice about my friend that i think is linked to the add is he's a habitual liar. like, he tells stories that aren't remotely true but i honestly think he believes them. how is this a good trait when you're constantly lying to people? and if this is a dysfunctional trait, how can it be dealt with. remember, you can't just tell him to stop because he doens't recognize that he's lying.

I hope you will still see this. I assume your friend got diagnosed with ADD? I think its great that you noticed this about his friend. I think you should talkt to him and tell him that you understand where this comes from. Tell him that he doesn't have to tell people lies or imaginary stories. They will like him either way. Instead, he should pursue those ideas. He most likely does this so that people like him. If he starts turning those dreams or stories into reality than he will be happy. ADD patients are often very good with people. He wouldn't have to lie because its a trait that he is good with people. There are downsides to ADD but he should focus on the advantages he has and treat the downsides. You say that he won't recognize that he is lying but I think if you seriously talk to him and give him hope he will eventually stop. It sounds like you are good friend. I hope this could help.

Sourcedrop It’s a spectrum disorder so it’s different for different people. I was diagnosed at 40 and spent years trying to get a degree which I eventually gave up on. Some people kill themselves. It’s fine to say it’s a gift when your diagnosed and supported even then some people still struggle.

Your friend may have an additional condition or behaviour. Many Adhders don’t lie, because its too much mental work. I suspect low self esteem, or it’s worked for them in the past and they’re not aware people can see through their lies. If they’re rigid with their claims it suggests Borderline Personality Disorder or Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I’m not qualified to diagnose, just a suggestion.

That’s not an add or adhd trait at all!! Not only I have add, as I study it a lot since I’ve been diagnosed and I have never ever heard such a thing! Ps: and I’m not lying right now 😂😂

That's not an ADHD trait. People are people, not disorders. So if you know 1 person with a disorder or even a few, don't mistakenly think everything they do is related to ADHD. We all have different t experiences and your friend probably had some life lessons that taught him to create a fantasy world to live in, in order to protect himself from reality.

I'm definitely not trying to be a colonizer. They enslaved many of my ancestors but everything else was on point.

@Arlicia Henderson. I immediately interpreted "colonizing" differently in this lecture after you mentioned it...Some of the only surfaces left to colonize are the different facets of our imagination and how we can use that imagination to solve real world problems. Old problems exhibited in the modern context is a sign of lack of creativity, like a muscle atrophied from lack of use. Entrepreneurs know this, old problems in the business mean your not growing. In the context of civil rights, America is no doubt familiar with the atrophy of creativity and the subsequent lack of reforms because of it. #blacklivesmatter
