I went without coffee for 2 months during boot camp. The day I graduated I went to a restaurant with my family and had a cup of coffee, and it was truly amazing. Couldn’t stop talking/smiling. Didn’t eat anything, just sat there basking in caffeine’s glory. Very powerful. And I’m very addicted.

I stoped coffee consumption about 25 years ago because of a bad period in my life, I suffered from anxiety and panic attacs. Coffee exacerbated my anxiety and activated a panic attack, so I stopped drinking coffee. The coffee withdrawals consisted of headache 24h/d during 10 days. I woke up with headache and went do bed with headache. During the 10 days I felt ill, but at day 11 I felt good, no headache anymore and stoping caffeine was helpful for me with the anxiety issue. Since then I like to be awake without needing a coffee. I would never have stopped drinking coffee without the anxiety problem.

And I realized that the anxiety was probably simply because of too much caffeine. Then I changed jobs so went back to drinking coffee, now I'm day 3 without. And I'm sooo tired. But it's getting better. Didn't get any headaches though

Same thing happened to me. I had AFIB, my heart would start racing up to 180 beats per minute. Doc said caffeine wasn't a cause. But I went off caffeine - not because of AFIB but because I had a frequent urination problem. When I went off caffeine for two weeks I had no AFIB, then one day I decided I need caffeine, as soon as I drank - two ounces my AFIB came back. Apparently after I withdrew from caffiene I was even more responsive to it. Studies say that caffeine isn't a trigger for AFIB, but it is for me.

I quit smoking using the On! Pouches and quit coffee with decaf, then one day a few months ago, I just said fuck it, any amount of caffeine already effects me negatively and the On! Pouches just became gross after a year, I just quit both of those the same weekend. I had smoked for 20 years before the pouches, which really worked well. Reading the ingredients to both cigs and the pouches(way “safer”) are just too disturbing to write off forever. Couldn’t easily find any pouches without the fake sweeteners. So after the day I quit I had 3-4 weeks of intermittent migraine style headaches just from decaf and 2mg pouches. What made me really quit the pouches was that I started getting a few headaches which NEVER get, so I quit everything the next day. Haven’t had a headache in a few weeks, knock on wood cuz that shit was pretty intense at times. Now just eat a crapload of things like cilantro to get the heavy metals out of the body a much as possible even though NOTHING beats old fashion sweating. 😅

I quit caffeine 2 days after I cut out all carbs. I’ve been going strong for 2 months now and I feel like I’ve unlocked some GTA cheat code for life. I feel so much better and my energy is so consistent now. I don’t know if I’ll ever go back. I actually dream now. I used to dream maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Now I dream almost every night!
@writerforlifeify
@writerforlifeify Ай бұрын
How many cups of coffee did you drink before you quit? I ask b/c I drink only 1 cup (black, no sugar), with breakfast. And my energy level is always consistent, provided I get at least 6 hours of sleep per night (though I rarely dream). I often have too much energy (I also exercise daily). I've been a 1-cup coffee drinker for 3 decades now. I doubt quitting will render me even more energetic.
@HeidariReacts
@HeidariReacts Ай бұрын
@@writerforlifeify I ain't no expert but I think you are fine with drinking 1 a day. I think this applies to people drinking more than 300mg of caffeine a day. I was drinking energy drinks (sugar free) that had 180mg of caffeine, and I usually took 2 of them a day for a pretty long period (atleast 2 months). It was honestly hell, now that I look back at it. My energy was so off. I quit drinking energy drinks since the month of february and I feel much better. Plus, sleeping less than 6 hours a die while doing this is dangerous in the long term. I truly believe that doing what I did over 1 year would surely increase my chances of getting sick. Either way, EVERYTHING in life needs balance. It is OK to drink an energy drink occasionally, for example if you had a bad nights rest but have to hit the gym, or need to be awake that extra time to study/work. But eating or drinking something every single day in a high volume will have a negative impact on your body, no matter what. So just balance it out in my opinion. Something I feel everyone should quit doing is drinking alcohol. Now THAT is a real killer.
@writerforlifeify
@writerforlifeify Ай бұрын
@@HeidariReacts Thanks for replying. Best to give up so-called energy drinks altogether. My co-worker, now 62, drank those for years. Different brands, including Red Bull. He had 2 jobs, bought his lunch from McDonald's every day. So, in March of 2023, he suffered a mild stroke while at work. 911 was called, he was rushed to the hospital...then was off work for 2 months for rehab. He's still working with us but had to give up both his 2nd job & his driver's license; his wife drives him to & from work. He's lucky to be alive.

@@writerforlifeify Well, I still stand by my statement that drinking or eating anything in extreme amounts will always be dangerous. So keep a balance and all will be fine. If you are strong enough to quit majority of things that has to do with sugar, then go for it. Otherwise keeping a balance is the best decision, and being careful about the amount you take in your body. Whether that be candy, chocalate, chips, energy drinks, fast food etc it is important to limit that as much as possible. PLUS, sleep and working out is so important. Especially sleep. May God bless your colleague though. It sucks to hear, but the hard truth is that people close to him enabled that horrible routine of his. Happy to hear that the man is alive! Take care and have a wonderful day 🙏

This is complete horse manure. This caffeine addict is trying to extol the benefits of a drug that he's dependent on, and basically attributing all of modern development to one cause. Any external food that provides no nourishment but is required for you to function effectively can never be a good thing. The ideal way is to get off caffeine entirely and drink it only for the taste rather than for the hit.

I drank coffee for 25 years. 2-4 mugs of strong black daily. I ended up with blown adrenal glands, causing intermittent sleep pattern. Also an inflamed stomach and reflux. I stopped, thinking just until my stomach heals, I got headaches for couple of days and couldnt really think straight. Now i sleep well, my stomach has healed. I had one cup of coffee on a ski trip recently, it felt incredible at the time, euphoric but hours later i got heart palpitations. I'm not going back. I realise i make excuses for coffee just like any addict. Drinking it all the time is not good for you. It's a powerful industry and easy to paint a healthy image when that much money is at stake. You can analyse a positive aspect of coffee and ignore the negatives. Bottom line, you're not meant to be living your life dependent on drugs. You may manage but it will most likely cause problems.

Very interesting clip. Over the years I realized if you get adequate sleep, coffee in the morning isn't really necessary. It's much more worthwhile to save it for those times you really need a boost in energy, whether it be when you had BAD sleep, gym etc. Problem is so many people drink coffee as part of their routine.

I never needed coffee in the morning, but always needed it in the afternoon after lunch. I feel fine from the time I wake up till lunch with no stimulants. But as soon as you start eating (excluding breakfast for some reason it doesn’t have much of a negative affect) - energy crashes and you want to go to sleep and that’s where you need coffee. The solution is to eat one meal a day in the evening after work. When you don’t eat, your energy is always good and stable throughout the day.

After being a regular drinker of 2-3 coffees/day and a beer or two of alcohol a day, i''m now nearly 5 months without both. The first 2 weeks were not pleasant, weeks 4-6 were easier, but I missed and craved it a lot, but after 2 months it started to become easier, especially as you create new habits. then you simply just forget and don't care about it.. My sleep is better, my productivity is better, my willingness to engage in challenges in life has improved, which has been noticed and rewarded. Aches and pains are minimal, waking up in the morning is like when you were a kid - you open your eyes and just go without feeling any form of grouch... I quit caffeine mostly out of laziness and stinginess. I didn't have a coffee maker so I couldn't make any, and I didn't want to spend money on a pot or $80 cups at the Starfucks. So I just kinda stopped without even deciding to, it just kinda happened gradually. At least regularly. I take caffeine tablets every now and then, but they don't do much, just a slight boost if I am required to stay up for some reason. But caffeine only twice ever did anything for me like the euphoric feeling, and that was the first and second time I had coffee, both times which I would then go on to get a monster canister about 2 hours after coffee and I felt amazing. I went for a run, I was in a silly mood... but then that never came back. When I deliberately quit for a few months, hoping I'd get it back when I tried it again, I felt nothing. So to me really caffeine is something I use if I am required to stay up to do something, not really for energy or to function properly, just when I have to not be asleep. I honestly I don't even think about it. If someone is offering coffee I'll have some just to have something to drink, but I never seek it out.

The key is moderation. One cup of coffee is pretty healthy (but afair you don't need caffeine for this, so decaf might be best option in general), but drinking 4+ is asking for trouble. And even 1 cup can create dependency, so taking several day breaks from time to time to reset this is useful too. There is also genetic factor - part of population is slow caffeine metabolisers and for them drinking more than 2 cups a day can be simply dangerous in terms of immediate effects - hearts and blood pressure problems and all things related to this.

I've been caffeine free for 16 months, and I've never been happier. Although, recently I inadvertently had it one morning from a drink I didn't realize had it in and I grabbed it in a quick moment of we have to move, lots of too 55mg, and I had a straight panic/anxiety/couldn't function attack on the highway, and we couldn't stop we had to keep going to get to our destination. Wow, it was quite the trip, one I don't want to repeat. Getting rid of the morning red bull's, coffee's whatever else and just replacing it with hot water satiated my stomach so much more. It also, I believe, helped me to remove alcohol from my life. Once I removed the caffeine, I didn't need the downer in my life to chill out at night from anxiety and stress of the workday. It gave me a clear head, and allowed me to quit my job and focus on starting my own career.

@@chickenortheeggphotography caffeine is a stressor just like blue light, that triggers the release of cortisol to prepare to fight, flight or hunt; to meet the day. Melatonin fuels truly restful sleep, but it is countermanded by blue light as it is designed to do at dawn in a proper circadian rhythm. Alcohol was substituting for your lack of melatonin and it was not giving you the restful, regenerative sleep that wellness requires. I'd bet you're still stressing your physiology with blue light at night like everyone else. I hope that was a bit more useful. Don't stop at just removing caffeine and alcohol. Put your eyes and skin in the sun, now that you have more control of your mornings; and keep your eyes and skin dark at night to let melatonin engage to do it's work properly. When I did this, my sleep and wellness changed dramatically and I still drink too much caffeine.

Alcohol was a familial issue mainly, most everyone in my family history was addicts, except my parents, and it just became a habitual thing because I was hanging out with the wrong crew. Interesting take on caffeine but it's very "bourgy" take on history pre-modern era since like 90% of most slaves and workers and servants were not drinking caffeine to do the labour's, nor is it correct to link caffeine to both the enlightenment in 16th century and mideast science revolution in 12th century. There was however the cafe culture of highest elites and intellects where ideas were exchanged, and some anecdotal evidence of huge coffee drinkers like Newton and Voltaire. Still, there are various other factors impacting the proliferation of ideas and booms of productivity that caffeine plays much minor part compared to other factors than as being suggested. So glad to hear this! I quit coffee about 6 months ago and I feel amazing. Kinda sad seeing so many comments about some people seeming almost “proud” to claim that the are addicted to caffeine. My health has improved in so many ways since I quit and I don’t ever see myself going back. No more migraines/tension headaches, no more gut issues, and my anxiety is at an all time Low. Glad to see some people realizing caffeine isn’t the only way to feel energized and that caffeine isn’t a substance our body necessarily “needs”. Cheers to you! 🙏🏽🥂

My brother who I worked with would give me these "pills" to get awake in the morning. So for months I'm unaware what this pill is doing or has in it. It was literally just a caffeine pill but still, the fear not knowing drove that. Plus I would be doing these 40 plus hour weeks at work all the while I'm a pot smoker mind you right so the memory was foggy. I had my own panic attack because of the over caffeine and smoking so much on the brain. Truly a unforgettable.

Over a year ago, I tried this. I only did a month, but aye that first coffee hit me like a trip. Forward to now, after having many bouts of trynna quit and come back, I found out something new. Spreading my intake out to where I don’t drink it for 2,3, 4 days helps. Tonight I haven’t had a drink in almost 2 days, and I decided to dilute my energy drink into a jug of water, and Fucking aye it has done more for me than any drink alone recently. I’ve encountered those psychedelic caffeine trips many times. It’s more of a hyper aware feeling than anything.

Nobody should drink coffee. Before you object, think about for a while. The reason you feel good about drink it, feel bad not drink it, is caffeine excites your nervous system, make you forget about tiredness. You see, if you are tired, your body sends you a signal, you are supposed to have some rest, right? That's natural protection system at work. You want to break that mechanism, ignore that signal. That's insanity.

I felt dull when quitting caffeine for a similar time It seemed like it may take a year or more to indulge in my “natural energy” But truth be told I really didn’t have much natural energy in the sense that I didn’t have things to keep me excited and positive But anyway, I drank a cup of coffee one day and immediately fixed all the current problems I had in my life haha. It made me say, damn, coffee is awesome However, this doesn’t last. Just a few days later I didn’t feel like I really got much out of coffee anymore-in the sense that it really benefitted me One thing I notice is it can really increase conversation. You are spending a few hours together, go get coffee, suddenly the conversation is flowing I suppose a rotation of stimulating things would be ideal, since just being linear with it has the sine wave effect, or becomes a straight line if you drink coffee all the time

Quitting coffee made me get my shit together. I had depression, anxiety and insomnia. I’m also diagnosed with ADD, which made me crave for caffeine so bad, cause it gave me the euphoria and focus that my brain is missing due to that condition. Well, but the side effects where that ever so often I had a caffeine down and my brain was worse at focusing, more tired and fatigued. My mood was at the bottom. Then I tried to drink more coffee, but all it did was increase my anxiety and stress level instead of the effect I was craving for. It made me realise that it is in fact like a drug, and like any drug you want to have more and more, but the effect gets lower, especially with a prior condition like in my case add. So, yes i love coffee. I love it when I feel the euphoria and can think, focus and talk better. I feel like finally I’m normal and cured from my condition and be in charge of myself, but it feels much better to embrace yourself the way you are, accept your add and live in a natural way without addiction. To be in balance, have a deep sleep and wake up easily feeling happiness and euphoria right away without having to drink a substance first.

Immediately I felt a euphoria and warmness overtake me and I couldn't stop smiling. It was an incredible day that I'll never forget.

I like coffee, but I don't like the effects of daily drinking on my minde, more agitated, more stressed, less long therm focus and less creativity, and in the long therm I've noticed less productivity. Still going to drink it once in a while like special/social occasions, where I've noticed it has a uplifting effect.

@BimmerWon

Caffeine isn’t really addictive and doesn’t have that much of an effect on me. I need 4-5 cups to actually notice anything. I quit coffee for a while and felt normal within a week or two. I think it’s just because I missed the taste and the routine of coffee. After several months, I decided to take a 200 mg caffeine tablet. I felt slightly more alert but it was nothing crazy. I only take them when I’m super tired.

The first cup I ever had was at work when they bought us cartons of Dunkin coffee, and yeah, it was euphoric. Smiled, laughed, felt amazing. 3 and a half years later I barely get any sort of energy boost from coffee, I sleep like garbage, I'm moody, always exhausted, got bags under my eyes. I'm trying to wean myself off of it to minimize withdrawals. Excited to not wake up every couple hours anymore.

I’ve been off caffeine for two years and must say, I feel soooo much better! I was horribly addicted to coffee. I would drink a 32oz yeti cup every morning AND usually an afternoon 8-10oz cup too! 🤦‍♀️ My sleep was restless, I always had an afternoon crash, and my guts were trashed! Quitting caffeine is one of the best decisions I ever made. Nearly two years caffeine free. Used to get terrible withdrawals and headaches if I went without. Energy levels much, much more linear now. And I can actually function first thing in the morning without consuming anything but water. Although if you've been addicted for many years, it does take a while to get used to the new lower baseline energy level. But it's totally worth it.

Same here man, I feel like all these people try and justify being addicted to something. Once you get back to baseline, you have all the energy you need for the day without the peaks and valleys of being dependent on caffeine. Most of these people that say they need caffeine to function have never really functioned without it, or it was so long ago there is no way to remember.

I gave up caffeine for over a year and all that happened was I was slightly less awake a lot of the time. But that first cup after a year was WONDERFUL. For a long time I would wean myself off for a few weeks just to give it that kick again. Just switching to a much lower dose like tea or decaf for a week is almost just as good.

I quit caffeine about four days ago after 200mg a day for years. The first couple days felt like I had the flu, but now it's just tiredness until I reach equilibrium. I'm a lot less anxious, and I sleep like an absolute rock. Having been an alcoholic for 8 years, I don't like being a slave to any substance. I want to indulge as I see fit, but not be so dependent that I experience withdrawals--whether it be from substances, relationships, ideas, or anything else we become hopelessly attached to. Self discipline is key.
