NOTE: For many of these tracks, choices were between more than 1. Tracks like Talladega have many crashes which could be argued as #1. So for some of these, I would like to hear your thoughts on what crash deserves to be on the list, that may not have made it!

The David Rs in 2011 beat out three for sure (Hornish-Gordon in '09, the pit-entry pileup in '08, and Newman punting McDowell into a barrier in 2014) Daytona and Talladega understandably have multiple wrecks given they're the most likely tracks for The Big One

Talladega: Bobby Allison in 88, or even Carl Edwards from a few years ago. Pocono: Elliot Sadler's wreck there. Although there is very few videos out there that show it unfortunately. Or even Jeff Gordon's wreck where his car is destroyed. Overall, I agree with this list overall, just a few that I feel were worse at those 2 tracks, I'm sure I could come up with others as well, lol

Talladega could have been the Bobby Allison blowout that sent him into the fence. That crash was a big part of what led to inner liners in tires, roof flaps, and restrictor plates.
@Miatacrosser
@Miatacrosser 5 жыл бұрын
Inner liners in tires have been around since the mid-sixties. 20+ years before Bobby's crash. They were created by a guy named Ralph Moody. Roof flaps came along 7 years after Bobby's crash and were mostly the result of the '93 Rusty Wallace crash at Talledega. They were invented by a guy named Jack Roush. You're right about the restrictor plate. We got that the very next year after Bobby's crash and all the hundreds of wrecked cars over the decades afterward to prove it
@bigdaddydave3341
@bigdaddydave3341 5 жыл бұрын
@@Miatacrosser I may have gotten bad information on the tire issue but I recall something connecting Bobby's crash to the tires. Maybe they were optional up to that point? At any rate, thanks for the correction. I do know this much... The general opinion around the sport is that if the fence hadn't held up and people in the stands had died, that would have been the end of NASCAR.

Pocono has had some horrendous crashes. Bobby Allison nearly died there. Dale Sr. and Tim Richmond where Tim had to help Dale limp to the ambulance.
