When I saw Bobby Hutcherson perform at the Vancouver Jazz Festival some years back I lucked out and got a ticket in the front row, on a side aisle. While most people saw him playing vibes head on, I viewed him from the side, getting a much better close up look. It was like he was making LOVE to that vibraphone. This is very hip and Joey DeFrancesco is perfect here. Thanks for posting this!

Not only was "Naked City" a great T.V. show it also had one best T. V. theme song this side of "Peter Gunn". Joey DeFrancesco & Bobby Hutcherson have reimagined the theme superbly. Working with A list musicians as back up Joey DeFrancesco & Bobby Hutcherson take it to the next level and it's a complete game changer. I bet Billy May envisioned this version when he composed the original theme. "There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them." You dig?

Still searching the version with the singer included. I know Carly Simon did a version in her album "Film Noir"

Joey D. is playing an A model here - sounds like the B/C, but the console version of the Hammond Tonewheel. It often played through the internal speakers. He is using a Leslie cabinet with it. Not as cool as a B-3, but proof that you can jam on a "church organ."

The snare drum is so overpowering and tuned totally out of whack for this ensemble. I've heard him before and always tasteful and in the pocket, not so much here.

The sax cat played with more swing and soul then all others. The guitarist played lots of notes ...all I'll say.

Hey Tunefultony . . . how ironic that someone calling himself tuneful thinks beautiful melodies constitute "elevator music." So sad. And how ridiculous that this extremely sophisticated and inventive interpretation is completely lost on listeners who've comet think that inanely repeated riffs over fake drum looping is NOT perfect for standing in little metal boxes rising up and falling down perpetually and ad nauseum in every sense of the word.

My take on this session. Nice tune but it got lost in blues cliche - ridden organ and guitar solos . And it's way too long, it's not the kind of a tune to go on 11 minutes.
