The chain of events that led to John Barnes starting in 1992: 1. Tommy Maddox declared for NFL draft as a redshirt sophomore. 2. With the sudden departure of Maddox, all the reps went to Wayne Cook another redshirt sophomore. He tore his ACL in the first game of the year against Cal State Fullerton I believe. 3. Rob Walker RFr stepped in. He got hurt and was ineffective. 4. Ryan Fien Fr stepped in but I believe he broke his leg 5. John Barnes Besides the USC game, Barnes and Stokes got hot the last 3 games of the year and UCLA finished 6-5. The very next year with Wayne Cook at QB and JJ Stokes at WR UCLA went to the Rose Bowl. UCLA had one of its best offensive lines in their history: Jonathan Ogden Vaughn Parker Craig Novitsky James Christensen Derek Stevens UCLA also had Jamir Miller and Donnie Edwards on defense along with Marvin Goodwin.

Had season tickets with my wife. I can remember the pass to JJ Stokes at 4:03 like it was yesterday. Terry was right. The 4th quarter was magical.

One of the best nights of my young life.......season Tix tunnel 24 Chain Gang.......Move the Chains...othello harrington Donnie Edwards Marvin Goodwin Jonathan Ogden Sharma Shah ( karim abdul Jabbar)Sean Lachappelle.....I miss those good ole Bruin Teams

An NAIA quarterback throwing for 385 and 3 scores against USC in the rose bowl. Donahue told Barnes he would never play for the bruins. Cinderella story like the 1965 UCLA team that beat Michigan St. in the rose bowl. The year before UCLA only won 2 games. Great memories!

Disney owns the rights to his story. He gave the OC Register an interview a few years ago and mentioned he gets calls frequently from Disney about them thinking about making the movie.

I called it! I joked with my coworkers all USC grads that the walk on from my school UCSB was going to lead UCLA to victory! I was joking but John Barnes made my called shot look good!
