The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Күн бұрын

When former National Security Advisor John Bolton voted for Donald Trump in 2016 he decided to roll the dice on an unknown instead of backing a Democrat. Amb. Bolton made a similar gamble when he joined the Trump administration thinking he could help guide what he knew was a problematic approach to foreign policy. His new book "The Room Where It Happened" is out now. #StephenAtHome #JohnBolton #BoltonBook

Clarke Okah Yes, exactly. Bolton’s dangerous and wrong IMHO, because his philosophy is ‘might is right’. Which on,y works for him as long as America is the most powerful. I don’t believe for a moment his ‘philosophy’ would survive another country being more powerful and imposing its will as it wished. A,Erica exceptionalism sucks. It’s basically just ‘might is right’ plus the assumption that America will always be the most powerful. And it doesn’t work b/c America’s military power isn’t enough. Even it’s economic power isn’t enough. It needs its allies. Without its allies it is not the most powerful nation on earth. Bolton’s philosophy overlooks that, to America’s great loss. When was the last time the US won a war anyway? When was the last time it won a war in its own? It doesn’t even know what’s happening in the rest of the world without its Five Eyes intelligence allies.

He says he didn't realize, 4 years ago, that he was _that_ bad. That surely no human being could be THAT intellectually incurious and vapid and hollow. Oh give me a break.... It was OBVIOUS. Utterly predictably obvious. It's absurd to think there might be some hidden depth to the most shallow human being on earth. That's my #1 issue with Trump: His utter lack of curiosity about ANYTHING. He knows NOTHING...and in fact, doesn't even know....that he knows nothing. He's ignorant of his own ignorance. But that was never ever in doubt. Everyone with the slightest shred of intellectual honesty could see that about him. I just do not buy it that Bolton didn't see it....and only became aware of it after working with Trump one on one for over a year. I think the truth is obvious: He always knew Trump was like this. How couldn't he? But he decided there might be something in it for him....if he allowed himself to pretend to be a sycophant in Trump's orbit. And after that didn't work out like he hoped it would.....only then did he decide to be honest and say what he ALWAYS thought of Trump. Cliche as it may be.....fucking too little too late. Seriously. What the hell is wrong with all these former Trump administration officials? Every single one of them, once out of office, when it's too late, when their words are impotent, all say the same thing: Whatever awful things you think of Trump....trust me, it's far FAR worse. Yeah.....we know. We KNOW. We've always known. This isn't news to us. What....do you want a pat on the back? For stating the obvious? For stating the obvious....AFTER you had a chance to tell the truth in a forum that would have had real consequences? Enough. To the rest of them, still in office: Tell the truth NOW. Not later. Now. And if you don't do that....you're irredeemable and you get no platform for your stupid fucking book. Gahhh.....rant over. :P

Great interview... Steven has a way of asking the tough questions. Kudos to Bolton for going on, obviously he does care about what he's witnessed with this current administration. He knows what's coming for him!

What a sad little man; having led a sad little life, and destined to be remembered by history as a sad footnote in this tragic cautionary era of future Americana.

As a moderate I honestly don't believe this country will move forward til we have future americans that believe that both parties are RIGHT when it comes to issues instead of both parties being wrong. Bolton is a scary example of where this country is going. If people continue to be Politically Bias and would rather destroy this country rather then endorse the better party then we are going to keep going down a dark path. The Fall of the Roman Republic was due to decades and decades of stale mates between both wings of the senate which divided the country and led to the power rise of Julius Caesar.
