Soon to be 50 years old, bassist John Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton share a musical career that has not only driven small formations such as pianist Monty Alexander's trio, but also continues to drive the "Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra", founded back in 1986. Their drive and energy are unbroken:
Together with the WDR BIG BAND, the Duke Ellington piece "Battle Royale" will be played. This great arrangement by John Clayton features Billy Test on piano, Paul Heller on tenor saxophone, Johan Hörlén and Karolina Strassmayer on alto saxophone, Raphael Klemm on trombone, Jens Neufang on baritone saxophone and Andy Haderer and Ruud Breuls on trumpet. "Old master" Jeff Hamilton is also featured with a solo alternating with Hans Dekker on drums. Recorded in September 2019 at WDR Studio 4 / Cologne.
