The WDR BIG BAND plays "One By One" by Wayne Shorter in an arrangement by Michael P. Mossman. Solos are played by John Goldsby on bass, Michael P. Mossman on trumpet, Ludwig Nuss, Shannon Barnett, Andy Hunter and Mattis Cederberg on trombone, and Karolina Strassmayer and Paul Heller on saxophone. Recorded at WDR Studio 4 / Cologne ( July 2016).
For the WDR Big Band concert "Wayne Shorter Stories" (Cologne Philharmonie, 2016), the American trumpeter, arranger and bandleader Michael P. Mossman has chosen a varied selection of songs that are to be representative of the great oeuvre of Wayne Shorter.

The whole band is shufflin' their asses off! That's a compliment, BTW. This chart and performance is further proof that this bone section (Mattis and the bass player are masterfully holding down the foundation as always) is one of my favorite on the planet...and there are obviously killer players in every chair in the band! Always love MPM's charts.

GENAU, vier unterschiedliche Posaunen in der Spielanlage, aber in sich geschlossen; und dann noch ein Danke-Arrangement von einem Trompeter, an die Tb-Tiefblech-Satzgruppe, die meist an Tp-Hörschäden laboriert...

Ich habe jimmy heath in 1973 im Downtown Dusseldorf zum ersten mal erlebt , und bin fan seitdem.Mit Wdr bigband ist es wieder grossartig!

First time I heard Mr. Mossman he was THE trumpet player and music director of a group of young lions (at that time - 80s) and he was something else, playing along the likes of Ralph Bowen, Henry Pickens, the always loud Ralph Peterson, Robert Hurst and the great Kenny Garrett. It is such a pleasure to watch Mr. Mossman directing this fabulous, fabulous, fabulous WDR Big Ban Orchestra! Thank You! PS. I miss the splendid playing of Ms. Barnet!
