found this a while back before it was deleted and knew i had to preserve it. some of the tunes were pitched up and distorted, so i did my best to restore this audio to its original form. hope you enjoy :)

In my opinion, the highlight of all the 1961 shows was Dolphy's flute on My Favorite Things. It is magical and gives this signature song a different dimension. To hear that today was the main reason I clicked on this. Thank you.

Dolphy sounds # cos he was over blowing. Don't you hear it? Trane was out of tune on Sop Sax. That tune in Jazz is not one if my "Favorite Things". Better tunes in 3/4, try "Some Day my Prince will come" re Paul Desmond. At least he doesn't sound like a goose caught by the throut in a trap. RSPCA would be alarmed if they heard it. Charges would have been laid. Ok, told you my position..bring on your arguments..ones that begin with "Silly old Fart" will miss the point.

The overblowing and tuning choices are a big reason I fell in love with their music. Nothing else like it, and it speaks to my heart on a raw level. Of course I enjoy Desmond’s playing as well, but too drastically different to possibly compare. The beautiful thing about music and art in general is that we, the audience, get to experience and choose what resonates with each of us individually.

This is priceless! It fills the critical snd indispensable link keys to better understanding of the duo conception of Trane and Dolphy as a cohesive front line unit, and as Supreme Soloists in their own rights. They covered so MUCH of the permutations of their brilliant originalist ideas, that no stone was left unturned in their relentless search of musical progress up to those points in time. This is from the perspective of one who has been listening to everyone in the group individually and herein for 40+ years. THANKS!

John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy were without question the two most important woodwind players of the 1960's. To have them playing together on the same stage is a marvelous exploration in musical artistry. It is truly a shame that they could not have played together for a much longer duration of time. The negative forces, which has always control the music industry, played a dominate role in creation of those conditions which bring about an accelerate demise of of musical genius. Trane had McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones as his partners in creating innovating music. It is a shame Eric never had that same type of unit behind him for at lease the period of time needed to have the success Trane enjoyed. I believe Eric best group was with Andrew Hill on piano, Richard Davis on bass, Bobby Hutcherson on vibes and Tony Williams on drums. I often wonder if that lineup could have been together for more than just one or two recording, what might have been.

Listening to first solo… Is it just me or does Coltrane sound different than other recordings? When it started I thought it was an alto, then as it went on I could tell it was a tenor. Just something different going on. Maybe a very hard reed…?

I believe this to be from one of his European tours. Most of the first half was set 1 in L'Olympia, Paris, November 18th 1961. the other half is sets 1 and 2 from a day or two later on the same tour. im not sure of the exact date.

Even more intrigued. I have checked my recording of the November 1961 Paris recording and it is definitely different. Well done, a real rarity. It may just be a different concert on the same day. However, I care not a jot, it is just Trane in dull flight and it rocks!
