we bought a used 120 Deere with 70hrs on it 6 years ago and it runs great and has never given us a problem. Came with 22hp engine and front bumper. Mow around 2 acres and the oil in the engine looks new at the end of the year. What to get a new Deere but i don't know what series is better than the 22hp one we have.

I bought an LA 105 ten years ago. Lowest cheapest machine on the JD ladder. I love it!! It has not given me one bit of trouble. I LIKE the fact that it has a 5 speed manual transmission, I PREFER that. I mow a little more than half an acre. Have several pull behind accessories like a roller, broadcast spreader, spike aerator, and a drag. Works great, couldn't ask for more. Take care of it, grease it, change the oil and filter, and I think most machines nowadays will give good service. My previous mower was a 12hp Craftsman and I rode that thing for 20 years and finally just gave it to my brother because I wanted something new. Take care of them and they'll take care of you. I will say I was disappointed to see a low end JD model with a "plastic like substance" differential. Don't think I'd ever go for that. When this mower craps out, or I just get tired to it, I'll probably move up to the X300 series.

I had a LA 135 for 10 years 450hrs and I beat the hell out if it. Had to repair the rear axle mounts 3 times because of weak metal from mowing uneven terrain and the steering gears also 3 times, but as a mower with a bagger it was awesome. I did upgrade to a x580 with a 54" deck this time around.

I have a GT235 with a 54" deck, and a GT245 with a 42" snow blower & cab. Love both of 'em. My wife inherited her dad's L130 which he bought in the early 2000's, used a few years, and then hired someone else to do their yard, so it's a "low time" unit. When her folks passed away, she got the L130. Biggest difference I see is that the L130's transmission is a "light duty" model, and isn't serviceable, and the 48" deck belt drive is a single-belt, unlike the GT's which has one belt driving the main spindle, and a serpentine belt driving the two outboard spindles. LOTS more vibration on the L130. Harder to steer, too ...

I have the S100. Great machine, poor assembly quality by Lowe's 🤦 It arrived scratched up by the Lowes employee who assembled it, and the nuts & bolts were hand tight. This is Lowe's fault. Once I tightened up everything, I have been happy so far. Eventually I will get around to buffing out the scratches.
@Pontiac2001GT
@Pontiac2001GT Жыл бұрын
Lowes employees don’t assemble it, they call a local JD dealer who sends a tech to the store to do the set up as they would at their store. There’s also no “nuts and bolts” that require any work during “assembly” - they come pretty much assembled, the tech adjusts tire air pressure, levels the deck, checks grease points for grease, test fires engine etc.

I had John Deere D110?. Ran like a plow horse for 6 years, never so much as a hiccup. Flat tire. I had option of self mounting a tire or buying a replacement wheel. Either way had to get the old one off. It permanently rusted to the axle. I watched tutorials on what needed to be done. With barely minimal effort it yanked entire axle out of the tractor so I had to go and buy a replacement. Covid hit so my only choice for anything in stores was craftsmen 110. What a giant pile of garbage. Leaked from every pore. I changed out things... it keeps dying. It has since runs no more than 10 minutes then shuts off. Neighbor told me it could be the coil. Ok great... I do not want that thing to become a sunken cost fallacy so I started shopping around for a replacement tractor. John Deere S110 is $2400. All others go for $2600-$3500. Sweet lord... at this rate I am this close to just buying a heard of goats to munch of stuff. No... seriously... this is ridiculous. I keep hearing tell tales about how people had to replace their 25 year old lawn mowers and yet all box store reviews for every mass produced tractor all talk about horrible build quality and how easily they break. I guess they just dont make them as good as they used to.... anymore.

I have heard that if you have your throttle midway between turtle and rabbit that is where you need to be when you engage and disengage your blades. I have heard it said that engaging and disengaging with the throttle all the way up to rabbit is what causes the belt to get thrown off. @MEEMOSS77

@@MrAndyd63 I only have 4 1/2 hours on my S100 and have not had any issues with the belt falling off by engaging the blades at half throttle then putting it up to full throttle. I also put it down to half throttle when I go to shut the blades off. One issue I have come across is that when the mower deck is raised to the 4” height the belt rests on the top of the mower deck and so it did rub the yellow paint off the top of the deck so now I never go above the 3” mark. I had John Deere look at it and they said that corporate told them that this was the nature of the beast and that the belt rubbing won’t mess the belt up and that there was no fix to this.

Don't buy this John Deere x147r Ride on mower. Unless you want to mow a level short lawn that doesn't get too long. Maybe a bowling green would be suitable. The grass shute constantly clogs up if you mow heavy green grass so you have put your arm in and pull it all out. You have no warning when it clogs and jams the blades while the motor keeps spinning the deck belt resulting in black smoke coming out that lets you know there's serious problem. If you're lucky the belt will jump off the pulleys. Putting the catcher back on is a frustrating procedure the makes you think it from a different model. The lock catch on the catcher releases very often dropping grass out the back. The whole catcher set up is flimsy and cheap. Not too mention frustrating. Not good around trees as the catcher handle sticks up way too high and hooks onto branches. 1 hr of use after buying this brand new mower it developed an unnerving clunking sound in the deck. I've always owned John Deere and have been a happy customer,but this model is poorly engineered and designed.

I bought a model d 105 from degrees dealer after having a model 111 from the 1980 's .the new D105 cuts lousey if you do not cut in a straight line. If you go around a curve you see grass that was not cut like between the blades. The hight adjuster handle on the left is too high when you try to step over it to sit on the seat.It needs a shorter handle or round know that does not protrude as much. No brakes! No wonder they sell metal bumpers for it. ANYTHING to cheapen it. It will never last as long as my model 111 (over 25 years) But then that is the American way to sell 2 mowers to me within 25 years or 3 if it lasts that long. Who designed this? john deere now is not what they used to be, plastic hoods break and cost a lot to get new ones, they use cheap plastic transmissions on the lower end 100 series, all in all john deere is crap compared to 10 years ago, now they make cheap stuff and sell it for more all because of the name, they made their name back then and live off it now. i would go husqvarna over them now. just my opinion though so dont take it to heart, i had an 89 165 hydro john deere and that thing was a beast. last thing though why the hell does john deere need to put a john deere sticker on an engine they did not make, hat is dumb, let briggs, kawasaki and kholer have their names on it, they made it.

I heard the 100 series is assembled by temp. workers in a non-union factory in Greeneville TN. Many of the parts are sourced from communist Ch-yna, that's why they don't last long. The transmissions are weak, sealed and not up to task of mowing hilly ground, which Tennessee has in abundance. Probably best part is the engines, Brigg's Stratton, if change oil regularly, should easily out last the rest of the machine.
