John Deere 1 series (John Deere 1025R) or the Kubota BX (2680)? Which is better? Many of the KZfaq videos are biases one way or the other. TTWT intends to review both tractors objectively, pointing out information that other reviews may not mention. This will be a series of videos - too much to cover in one episode - so subscribe! You don't want to miss an episode.

Nice to see an honest review. Thanks. I'm a Kubota BX23S owner, but I don't have a bias one way or the other. My choice came down to the dealer and which one treated me the best. Kubota won. Dealer location wasn't an issue since the Deere and Kubota dealers are across the street from each other. I thought the lack of position control would be a big negative when selecting the BX. After some thought I realized that the vast majority of 3 point work on a subcompact the hitch is either fully up or down. Then came the problem with the hitch not floating back down due to terrain changes. By opening up the flow valve and riding the lever to compensate for the terrain, the implement stays engaged. Sounds like a lot to do, but it quickly becomes second nature. There are so many excellent tractor brands available it's hard to go wrong. The one thing that I see way too often is people chasing specs. To those that say "My tractor can lift more than yours", yet will never come anywhere close to pushing the tractor to it's limits, what's the point? Buy the tractor that fits your needs, is within your budget, and if you can find a dealer that is honest and treats you well...you are in good shape.

I bought a tractor a little over a year ago. I had intended to buy a John Deere, hadn’t even thought about Kubota. While our house was being built I asked all the machinery operators their opinions. They all told me either a Kubota or a Deere but they cautioned me the Deere dealer wasn’t good. I started calling the parts departments to find out availability of common “breakage” parts. In almost every case one dealer had the parts in stock, the other could have it in in a week or so. The end result, based on dealer support, was I bought a Kubota L4701. It’s been a good machine, and when I snapped a brush hog blade I had a new set later that day. So... evaluate your dealers!

I own a 2018 Kubota BX 23S and do use the 3 point a lot. I believe a 23S is the same as a 2680 except it comes with factory installed loader and backhoe. If you look closely there are two stops for the 3 point lift that can be adjusted by reaching under the fender. They can be used to stop up or down, also can be used to hold lift lever in down position to float in the down position. Great for using tiller, blade, etc. At least, that's how my BX 23S works. Best video I've seen on these two machines. Good job.

As the owner of multiple Kubota units from BX series all the way through L series and even the MX series each individual tractor has its certain uses . until buying my first John Deere last year we have now found that the largest and most notable difference between kubota and John deer is the #1 weight john deer, HEAVIER #2 hydraulic system capability stronger as shown at the END of the video, personally I find myself usually running for a John deer FIRST but if the ground is WET well then, go grab the kubota because I can usually get into the job SITE and out of the job SITE with very little problems, just my personal experience, love them both, GREAT JOB ON THE VIDEO CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST

I’ve owned John Deere’s for 35 years and love my dealer. But I bought a Kubota BX this month after spending months doing research. My three critical points are dealer, price and equipment. And it killed me to switch dealers, but price and equipment won out. Both will get the job done and you can’t go wrong with either.

Kubota, Cub Cadet, New Holland and Deere were all the same price. No Regrets on buying the Deere it has done me well. I would like to upgrade to the 1 series but the price keeps me from doing so and there is nothing wrong with the 2305. Thanks for the videos!

You are correct on the 3 point analysis. I do rest my hand on the lever on my GC2300 keeping it just over center in the lowered position while tilling. And Kubota would do well to add an inch or two of arm length. My equipment doesn't fit well on a BX because of pto length and I also drag my feet on shortening shafts to fit someone else's tractor.

The three point hitch lower arms, on the Kubota , can be moved outward, to remove the quick hitch, by removing one of the pins at the end of the lower arms. The mower deck should be locked in the up position when using the three point hitch. I don't think you can go wrong with either tractor. I always look forward to your videos .

Nice job Tim. The only thing I saw that you did wrong there was not using the 'top' position on the kubota mower deck. It'll have double the clearance of the Deere mower, so generally you can do more things without taking it off. ... Have fun with your plastic, aluminum, yanmar tractor 😀

One of the biggest reasons I do wish I owned a Deere, the mid mount. That said, sales and support at Pape was arrogant and dismissive. Make sure you take that into account when making a purchasing decision. PTI (Pacific Tractor and Implement) a local dealer is why I own a BX and not a Deere. They have always treated a little guy like me with respect and first class service.

When I started looking for a compact tractor, I started with the BX. I ended up getting a B2650, and here's why: loader lift capacity, overall weight, 3-point hitch features, and ground clearance. The weight and loader capacity are obviously larger for the larger tractor. I understand the B2650 compares more closely to the Deere 3000 series. But I didn't like the BX not having position control on the 3-point hitch. My B2650 has position control, extendable links, and "telescoping flat bar style" stabilizers (on the inside), all of which works very well. (Maybe the BX now has optional "telescoping flat bar style" stabilizers?? That would be a great improvement.) The telescoping flat bar stabilizers have holes that you put a pin through to lock it at a certain length. They are easy to pull the pin and change the length. And there are enough holes to give a variety of usable lengths, including float positions.

I'm in the market for a compact tractor and like most everyone else my choice has come down to these two machines, so thank you for your review since it is very helpful. However, I'm not sure why you make light of the other reviewers, since a metal hood versus a plastic one makes a big difference to me, especially when it comes to quality and longevity, and I'm glad that information was given to me by another reviewer. There was also no need to call him bias, since of course he was, just like you clearly are. Saying you are not bias does not mean you are not bias. You can cut the bias in your videos with a knife. what we always do (granted I'm referring to a pair of 55 horse Mahindras) is we put the implement on first, raise it just off of the ground, then center it and adjust the sway bars, we always make sure to put the end of the arms to the inside of the pins as it gives us more lift height.
@bobhomestead7396
@bobhomestead7396 5 жыл бұрын
Tim the reason why the tiller was lifting in the back was because you had the mower deck on. To solve that problem, Lift the mower deck all the way up, then set the mower height adjustment to top. this actually lets the three point hitch fall all by itself, Because the mower will stay at the top level were is will not interfere. Hope i explained that good. There also is an adjustment to limit the three point hitch, i will have to look that up when i have more time. Thanks for the video.

And the growing point must a few inches higher .. In germany we ride since the tractors came on the farms .the most machines in 3point hitch . On the old fendt .old deutz .old international tractors is it no problem to adjust the machines in the 3point hitch . On our john 2040 from 1986 with sg 2 was is often a catastrophe to adjust the machines in the 3point hitch . The lift high was often too low . Nice greatings from North West Germany from Bert !!!

I totally agree: compare to a B series Kubota. The BX is way too small to compare to the 1025R. A Kubota B2650 or B3350 (like mine) would also be a good comparison. Otherwise, a very useful comparison; thank you, Tim!
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 5 жыл бұрын
It makes sense to me. Most folks who are in the market for a sub-compact tractor will ultimately shop and compare these two models. A BX is a direct head to head competitor to the JD 1-series. What better to compare? Even Kubota themselves compares the two tractors. A B2620 would compare closer to Gen-1 JD 2-series (2520/2720). It no longer compares to the Gen-2 2-series since JD has upsized them compared to the Gen-1 series.

@@mrdfarms9373 That doesn't make sense. The BX2680 and Deere 1025R are both 25HP SUB-compact class tractors weighing around 1500 lbs. The comparison doesn't get any closer than that. The end of the video doesn't surprise me at all... The curling power on the Deere is just superb for it's size. My brother has a BX25, and he and I can both tell that the Deere has better hydraulics on the loader when it comes to lifting stuff. However, the actual lifting cylinders struggled on both tractors to lift that load, but did you see how Tim was able to come in at a different angle and a slightly higher height to take advantage of the stronger curling function on the Deere? Well done video Tim, can't wait for more!

I have a BX2660 purchased new and now with about 1400 hrs and have noticed the same problem you experienced on the tiller. I find myself holding the three point lever down until I get the depth I desire. I tie the mower deck up with a cargo strap because the mower deck is a REAL PAIN to take off. The same function that allowed you to lift more on the kubota 3pt is the same thing that prevented you from lifting the pallet of racking. the "moment" on the kubota 3pt is shorter but longer on the kubota loader. The "moment" on the jd 3pt is longer but the loader is shorter. The 243 loader on my BX can make a big difference by the tilt of the bucket and can lift my back tires off the ground if not careful.

Thanks for the review Tim. I happen to own the BX23S but I would be equally happy with a 1025R. I agree with your assessment. The 3 point height adjustment would be a nice feature and I wish I had had it when I was using my box blade on the driveway. I have since paved my driveway so its not much of an issue anymore. I would also love the JD drive over deck. While my Kubota deck is not that hard to take on and off I only do it when I have to. I chose the Kubota because my neighbor has one and I was able to watch him and ask lots of questions. I have both a John Deere dealer and a Kubota dealer about equal distances apart, both being less than 10 miles away. My John Deere dealer is fine but I enjoy working with the guys at the Kubota dealer more. I always enjoy watching your videos and seeing the differences between the various tractors you own and use. Thanks for the honest review. Its refreshing.

Another great video Tim. I’ve actually thought about this a lot because I’m starting to have a lot of issues with my 2038r. The main issues I’m having is as follows, the stand of the loader has been replaced twice the bolts keep breaking it keeps bending. The mid mount mower setting is going haywire now. The front loader loses pressure whenever you have a load on it and you can almost watch it settling to the ground. My Backhoe You Must keep raising the Boom or the backhoe just bounces all over the place. And I am told by my dealer all this is normal just keep the pin in to keep it locked. So the only other tractor around me is orange. But service is the key and I am not getting it from my dealer.

Removing the mower deck and reinstalling it is a regular task and I have not experienced any complications with alignment. Our neighbor down the road has a Kubota series that is the larger version and it works great as well. For our property and our needs we love our 1025R! Our terrain is very uneven and rough with many steep slopes. Negotiating the slopes is a must while mowing our pasture but I have never felt at risk of tipping in the steep areas. Epic tractor!

My old neighbor was a WWII vet, fought Japan in the Pacific and disliked. Was a straight John Deere man. But, after he bought a new HD cab tractor, when he died, he had a Kubota. This fella had 1000 cows, garden, baled hay... The JD was in the shop a lot. Kubota never went back to the shop. We farm and run six tractors. I'm giving a bona fide opinion here. Had a new JD skid steer, burnt to the ground, track machine. New Kubota still going strong. Had the Kubota way longer than JD. I'm not much on these little flower bed tractors with their plastic hoods. Is that John Deere a yanmar? Head crack problem. I'm a field mechanic that drives the tool truck with the crane on it.

When it comes to the peddles it's a matter of preference. There is a small advantage to the treadle peddle when you are turned around looking behind you. It's easier to switch back and forth from forward to backward with a treadle peddle. No matter which one you get you will get used to it quick.

Before I purchased my first tractor, I was sure I was going to buy a John Deere. I went to John Deere with intent to purchase. New Holland was a few miles up the road so after looking at the Deere I decided just to be sure I’d look at the New Holland. Disappointed with the New Holland I was even more sure about the Deere. Actually went there on the way back and filled out the credit app. Kubota was on the other side of town and I really didn’t want to go there but as thorough as I am with anything I purchase I decided to go just to look around. After I saw the Kubota B26 TLB I was very impressed. I knew right there that I wanted that tractor. I called the sales guy from John Deere as said I’m going for the B26 and told him to talk me out of it. He said John Deere has nothing like the Kubota B26. It’s been a year since and I’ve never once had buyers remorse or any regret with my purchase. That’s my story. I am a homeowner and purchased it for my personal home use.

Not all implements attach outside the tool, some attach inside, which is why many have attachments both inside and outside the tool. Your Deere advantage is not an advantage at all, it's just a difference and it's a handicap sometimes, just as the Kubota is sometimes. My Case-Ih has the outside limiting equipment, it's a bear and a half under some circumstances. I can't be the only one who notices that.

When I was dreaming of getting a tractor, I had no idea what that three point hitch height position control was. Tim mentioned it in a video and was kind enough to explain it to me in the comments. A year later I'm about to use it, but others who don't have it mention they wished their tractor had it. The John Deere quick attach on the loader is also, in my opinion, a nicer system for these small tractors than the standard Skid Steer Quick Attach that everyone else uses. It's simple, lighter and you don't lose lift capacity due to the geometry of the system. Overall, the Deere has a "premium" feel to it, from the seat and mat on the floor to the loader control joystick location etc. You will be happy with any tractor since they are all great, but you will surely enjoy the Deere. Note also that prices can vary quite a bit, so shop smart:-)
