John Deere 1640 Fitting the Flywheel and Clutch and a Quick Clutch Test

In this video I run through fitting the John Deere 1640 flywheel and clutch. I also show a quick hack to check the clutch before moving on to the next job.

G’ mate well you lost me at the 1st video I thought that was complicated good set of videos very interesting Lance thanks mate I really enjoyed that it’s not something you would see very often.

Hi Lance, i watched one video where the guy 3d printed a clutch alighnment tool and it seamed to work ok, probably not 100% perfect but got him very close.

G Day Derek, Yes no reason why that would not work, a few clutch suppliers are offering plastic ones for sale now a days but there is no real need on these as you have clear access to the plate.

G Day Lance the John Deere is really coming on now. Did you find the problem in the gearbox as to why it was stripped in the first place?

G day John, Yes I found the PTO clutch had dropped the facings off the plates and that probably clogged the filters and caused the hydraulics not to work. Everything seems to be working well now though.

Does the dick side on the pressure plate face the flywheel on the 2130 tractor the same as the 1640 tractor?

1 transmission pump that supplies oil as charge pressure to the front pump on the engine.

I have a 1955 TO35 Massey. It locked into the engage position for the clutch. I had to split the tractor and found the whole clutch assembly was rusty. I tore the clutch apart and sandblasted every part. I am in the process of putting it together, the discs are like new. My question is, How do I adjust the clutch fingers? Mine does not have nuts and bolts just 3 metal fingers held in place by a slotted bolt a small spring and lock nut. Thanks!! Douglas

On a TO Im not sure as we dont have them here, the most important thing is to make sure they are all even. A little high or low usually doesnt worry them too much.

Greetings! I have a jd 3130 2wd. removed engine for complete overhaul. now reassembled everything but I have a problem. because if, with the hi-lo lever in the turtle position, and the clutch engaged, the gears scratch (and do not engage). while with the ho-lo lever in the hare position, and the clutch engaged, do the gears engage without problems? Thank you so much 🙏🏻

It sounds like you have a hi/lo clutch problem, the plates may be buckled and not letting it turn freely.
