The air flow from wind will spool up the turbo with no oil pressure. NEW TURBO cover the pipe.

It's best to get into the habit of covering the exhaust when facing forward. The reason is the turbo turbine wheel can spin from the wind rushing in with no lubrication. Highly unlikely to do any serious damage but better safe than sorry. I've seen truckers who had a custom cover made out of a fabric with some bungee cords on it. Fit all types of stacks. Duct tape is easy to use but makes a mess when removed and the glue stays stuck on the pipe and then bakes on.

Great video! Good use of a Rock Hammer to hold the chain. As for the exhaust pipe, I'd be more concerned for water intrusion. One rainy day on the roads, and you got troubles.

Great video, we missed you the past few days but your explanation about dead head miles was great. Cool trick with using your hammer at the end of the binder when tightening.

As turbo chargers are only lubricated when the engine is running I would have thought it would be wise to cover it when air would be forced backwards down the stack apart from which you wouldn't want any crap being driven down into the cylinders past the turbo which happen to have open valves

i wouldn't go that far north into manitoba if the load didn't pay enough to cover the unavoidable hefty deadhead.

@@HHTV60 1200 miles though. Im guessing with fuel it could easily cost a dollar a mile to run a machine such as yours. Cheers. But it's not very efficent. if you did a video on systems that can help a fleet or owner operator avoid this. that would be awesome. just found your channel. super interesting. thanks for sharing. all the insight you provide is super helpful.

$3.58 for water? Allow me to give you a tip: Canadian Tire sells 10L water jugs for $10-15. Mine was a nice square one that fit into a cubby. Then I'd fill it with clean, refreshing and *higher quality* Canadian tap water. Oh - it's free too. This would last a week in all but the hottest weather. In the middle of summer I'd take an extra jug in the tool compartment and use it for washing if there wasn't a shower nearby. Personally I think all truckers should take a water jug - it would save on a lot of plastic garbage.

Having the exhaust open can damage the turbo. You can just use duct tape to cover it up.

Dang I must of just missed you. I was at the Iowa 80 truck stop the evening of the 18th and just left there today. The only thing I might have done different is cross chain the back of the grader. The front might not have been conducive to that but I always cross chain when I can. I usually have a roll of duct tape and I tape up the exhaust on the vehicles especially if the wind is blowing into it. Does it really prevent damage? Who knows? I drive a white KW W900 and am leased at Landstar too. Love your vids man, they are solid gold.

Regarding the windshield washer fluid in the cab, I would assume it is set up that way because the conventional and inefficient method of getting out opening the hood was a bad idea in a filthy nasty environment with dust flying everywhere both for the operator and contaminates entering the reservoir. Just my $.02.

Great video as always! Was it the shipper that decide to put the skids in the very back or you? The reason I ask that is because sometimes pieces tend to walk out towards the rear during driving, and yes I know its air ride and not spring but its happened to me before.

i told them to load the skids on the back. they're light. i'll keep an eye on them. i don't think they'll move as i made sure there's ZERO spacing between them.

that grader 'only' weighed 39,000 lbs. my 3 axle heavy duty trailer can take 85,000 lbs in 10 feet of the deck or 75,000 lb maximum payload. so, theoretically i could have loaded a 35,000 lb steel coil on top of the grader!

I'd get into the habit of covering the exhaust, especially hauling equipment backwards like that...If you really need to or not who knows, thats a debate in itself. But atleast you're covering your own ass if the turbo lets go while unloading or shortly after delivery. When you get your lowboy and hauling a lot of equipment might want to invest in a "turbo barrier" looks faster and easier than duct taping the stack.

Ahmad Dost That's why I don't like showing the procedure of tying down equipment. There's always a guy who thinks he knows a better/safer way to secure stuff when in fact by the mere content of the comment I know for a FACT he/she has no idea of what the actual rules are. Here you go, SIR: FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY REGULATIONS (USA) "Minimum Number of Tiedowns The cargo securement system used to restrain articles against movement must meet requirements concerning the minimum number of tiedowns. This requirement is in addition to complying with rules concerning the minimum working load limit. When an article of cargo is not blocked or positioned to prevent movement in the forward direction, the number of tiedowns needed depends on the length and weight of the articles. There must be - one tiedown for articles 5 ft or less in length, and 1,100 lbs or less in weight..." The pallets in questions were shorter than 5 feet and weighed much less than 1100 pounds. Anything else I can help you with?
