True, we have an old Kenworth body job grain truck with an 8 V92, it sounds pretty sweet too.

The 8850 did have a John Deere produced V8 diesel engine. They didn't make very many because it was a POS.

Actually the motor was pretty good. The downfall was how it was mounted in the frame. It was built too stiff with no flex to the frame. All the frame twists or jars went right into the motor and caused them to fail.

With all the trouble were having with the emissions systems on new tractors i think we will be seeing alot more of these in the field. Plus its getting hard for farmers to spend 300k on a new tractor these days.

A lot of these tractors got repowered with cummins engines! The v8 diesel was a black eye for deere!

using it in the tractor was. Anywhere it was used in construction sitting in the frame instead of being part of the frame, no problem.

Balanced like the inline 6 the v8 was. A few wee good. Most were junk.

I wanted to buy one. The jd dealer told me it was a marine engine and worked fine in a boat. He said in a tractor the water pump could leak fluid into the engine and cause a catastrophe.

Nealy all of these failed in service. JD should have been class action sued by the owners of 8630 8640 8650 and 8850 owners who had to replace the engines because Deere had a design flaw that put a lot of stress in the engine mounts and block as the front end of the tractor had way too little and light of a frame for support.
