I am in my third season of plowing snow at the property with a used 42" snowblower attachment on my 20 hp John Deere D125 lawn tractor. My D125 is about severn years old and the snowblower attachments is about 20 years old. I had to purchase brackets to mount the snowblower, chains, a weight rack and a PTO on/off cable to make the rig work. It works well and meeds my needs for a fraction of buying a new snowblower attachment.

Beats the walk behind. Thinking of your set up for Maine. Thanks for sharing.

Sabre was John Deere's "big box store" budget brand back in the 90s and early 2000s.

Hey bud, I have a full on 6000 plus pound 40hp Deere and she is 100% unstoppable even with 3ft of heavy snowfall. BUT! she is slow as hell lol and being as big as she is, she cannot get around the truck or Tahoe nearly as nimble and as CLEAN as my old Ariens HT-16 garden tractor with the 44" snowblower. I have an extremely large driveway, and the garden tractor setup with the snowblower is the absolute best machine to clear any amount of snow. Again the big tractor will break through anything no matter what, but the damage she does to the gravel, the lawn and surrounding trees is a pain in the ass, yet the tiny HT-16 setup with the snowblower does absolutely NO DAMAGE, I put the snow where Iso choose when I need it and when the spring time thaw hits I don't have 20ft tall snowbanks melting untill August lol Point being I have the tractor you believe to be better per-say AND I have a similar tiny tractor, and with a bigger driveway I can truthfully tell you that no you don't want/need a bigger tractor as your setup is the dream machine. Maybe the little woman's 1 series or Kubota BX series with hardcabs would be "nicer" but not exactly better though. A simple "perhaps the grass is greener on the other side" ordeal. But in the summer a real full size tractor is the king machine Man, honestly without mine I would be horribly screwed, either renting or hiring out entire jobs that I currently finish in a single weekend for say a couple hundred bucks....I have a feeling you're more than aware of what I mean

That looks like the best setup otherwise a snow shovel and quad works but the snow accumulates so eventually you have to push it out of the way with a 30 inch snowblower. Either option but this works nicer for larger lots.

It works well most of the time. If the snow is wet and heavy, this little machine has a hard time.

@The Woodland Reboot The quad and snow shovel pushes snow to the side until there is a snow bank, than the driveway will get narrower each time with subsequent snowfalls so the snowblower is still necessary unless you can push the snow far enough away. Some acreage owners use a bobcat because it can lift anything but like you say if you can deal with it before it starts to melt what you have there is quite good. Everything beats hand balming the snow. I see that there are KZfaq videos of snow blowers moving very thick snow. It is hard to believe.

Hello, Woodland Reboot. I hope it’s okay to ask a question about your mill. I have a 122 as well. I want to mill lumber that it will be congruent with store bought lumber. My question is if I mill a 2x4 at 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 when it dries will it be smaller than a regular 2x4 or are store bought 2x4s milled at 1.5 x 3.5 as well? Thanks. I enjoy your videos

Store bought lumber is milled at 2x4 then kiln dried and planed. Your milled wood will not shrink down a half inch. I have the same mill too. I just cut mine 1 1/2 x 3 1/2. Closer to store bought than cutting it 2x4. Plus I'm cheap and get more out of a log. Reboot videos are what convinced me to get my mill.

Hi Lambda, Zach did a great job explaining the issue. That is my understanding as well. I mill mine to the same dimensions as Zach. It's not perfect but close. Thanks for watching! Peter at the Reboot.

George, I had a very hard time finding a used snowblower for the tractor. This one is branded a Deere; however, it was made by Sabre. I think it is at least 25 years old and I had to rebuild the mule component. Good luck.

Man, that 42 inch blower certainly blows further than my 44 inch !. I wonder if the 42” version are better built ? Can you get internal gear box parts for the 42” ?. 44” blower you can’t and a new gear box was like 800+ for the same crappy box. I will say this run from the 44 inches of junk!! They sell now gear box’s are weak !! Plastic chutes completely crap!! if trying to get a set up I would look new or for a used Berco. I just had to put in a new gear box I for my 44” JD blower this year. My old gear box had all proper shear pins etc and that’s with all the proper sheer pins and everything it still let go. I replaced the gear box and now the plastic chute let go on the last storm. they want 479 from John Deere for a plastic piece of crap!! my personal recommendation is for anybody looking at a used or new JD 44” snowblower from John Deere don’t buy the 44 inch version unless you’re getting it real real real cheap. Love the bracket with the weights. I personally run two John Deere weights and found it was not enough for my D110. I ended up putting a third one along with the chains, and in fact, I was thinking of welding the bracket and trying to actually make it take four. as I find it hard to steer sometimes unless you slightly lift up on blower when doing any major turns.

I bought this one used and, knock on wood, it hasn't broken down yet. Concerning the weights, I may add another 20lbs because my wheels still spin a bit even with the chains.

Use a snowmobile helmet to block all snow and wind from your face and neck…. I don’t understand why you people without cabs don’t do it but yet complain about the snow blowing in your face…. I just solved your issue…
