So I did a oil change on my x 540 and afterwards my low oil pressure light came on and stays on

That’s weird. Have you rechecked oil level? That would be my first suggestion, verify that the correct amount of oil is actually in the machine.

It is up to the full line and I went to a John Deere dealer for the oil and filter

I had a similar experience with my first car. I knew it had oil so I drove anyway. Bad idea. The oil pump had not primed and I ruined the engine. Be sure you have oil pressure!

John Deere engineered a plastic gear to hook to the metal cam shaft for the oil pump. Luckily I didn’t have it running long!

Sounds like a design flaw, that’s too bad to hear. Glad you got it sorted out and hopefully nothing was damaged. Way to spot the oil pressure light and not ruin the engine.
