Great video thanks brother. That pump reminds me of a old inline fuel pump. Runs kinda the same way. I think it was a Catapiler pump to set the valves on it you had different places to pin the engine. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother. Just reminded me that. I have a 1967 4020 narrow front end powershift that is doing just what you said...leaking oil out of the pump shaft seal when shut off. Now I know I need a seal kit and not just the outter seal, Thanks!!

I have very similar pump here and i tore it apart it showed no sign of wear and check valves looks good

Can i change the oil seal without stripping the pump?

These pumps are an excellent design. I have had good luck over the years. Just never, ever run low on oil.

Hey Mr Smith i just bought a 4055 from 1991 , somebody messed up the wiring in the tractor and ruined cowl and the plastic on the dash (grrrrrrrr) the tractor has run 8150 hours and the tank is leaking from the bottom . so my first problem JD has run out of plastic to the dash , is there any second hand seller you can refer too . my second problem is the tank (haven't removed it yet) i suppose some JB WELD can fix the problem . but would you cut out the rotted part and seal it with JB WELD or would you sandblast it and then seal it or what would you suggest ( i have the knowledge to weld on diesel tanks) . i live in DENMARK , EUROPE and i like your approach to the problems in front of you . Lucky guy! that pump looks great! if it were mine.....it would have been worn out beyond repair. what are the differences in the radial and the gear style pumps as far as pressure and volume?

What was the problem with the pump before teardown?

Not as simple as a gear pump, but more simple than a variable displacement pump. So, what was the reason you were tearing it down? Was there a hydraulic problem with the tractor? Great video! Thanks for the tear-down and explanation of those pumps!

My pump similar but not exactly the same. Just tried to tear it down the same way. Started off good but then a couple minor differences just caused me to destroy the pump. I guess its not a job for amateurs
