But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I’ve seen it rainin’ fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky Mountain high (in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (in Colorado)

I got divorced at 27 and after several months of trying to figure my life out I took John's advice. I took a week off of work and hiked eight of Colorado's beautiful 14ers. I saw fire rain, I looked down on silver clouds below me, and I made a lot of awesome mountain friends. The man that I am today was born on that trip. My wife and kids are very grateful for the effect that this song had on me. Thank you Mr. Denver.

I'm 27, I lost my job taking care of my kids instead of working. I have two beautiful twin baby boys. I had a dispute with my wife, now I'm homeless in Texas. I'm saving to go back. All I have is my truck, some clothes, and my dog's ashes. I got a thousand miles ahead of me soon. Wish me luck, boys. I'm going to see those mountains again.

He spent the entire day with us and it's a day I will never forget. He sang for us off and on for almost 10 hours into the evening. As a European I'd say don't listen too much to Europeans thinking too highly of themselves. I love American culture! America's problems are always under the world's magnifying glass and European newspapers for example love that, because it sells. As a german-russian i have to say that i think citiziens get blamed too much for everything. There are a lot of people around the world that are very nice and some which are not. People tend to forget that and rather target an entire country. Ignoring the politics, I think the americans have created many great things from physical inventions to digital media.

My mother was buried yesterday and for some reason, this morning, this song came to mind out of the blue. There was no reason for it - it wasn't one of her favourites, she didn't particularly like or dislike John Denver, nor do I, but the song kept looping in my head and wouldn't leave me alone. Listening to the song started the tears again. There's something about John Denver's pure voice and solitary guitar accompaniment that reminds me so much of my mother's character- how she loved family, nature, embraced her faith. She was my rock and I feel adrift right now

My husband was killed on the job in 1979 at almost 27 yrs old. In Tucson. I buried him in Colorado where his family lived and we both loved. The first several lines of this song fit perfectly. We had a funeral in Tucson and I took my stereo and 8 track of this song and played it. Most didn't understand but my husband and I did. He was going home to God. We both loved John Denver and so did his mother.

I wish he had wrote a song about my island. The island sits on the equator. My grandmother home is on a mountain. I visited her as a young man. I thought my home in New York City was spectacular with lights. Then I saw the lights of god, in the Caribbean. Looking up at the billions of stars against the jet black of the universe could only be correctly described by John Denver. Gods work is truly amazing!

This to me is the most beautiful, heartfelt song ever. I can’t listen to it without thinking about the people I’ve hurt and let down in my life, and the need to reach out to every single one to say I’m so very sorry, would you please forgive me. It also causes me to forgive anyone that has hurt me or let me down. We are all human and make bad mistakes. But if Jesus can forgive a sinner like me, I can forgive anyone who has wronged me. Thank you Lord for this wonderful song.

He just sings about pure and natural things, he makes you feel the places and ppl he sings about, you can’t listen to him without feeling the music in your heart. Rest In Peace John. P.S. My ex wife’s friend was at an airport lounge waiting on her plane when JD walked in saw she had a guitar and started talking with her, he showed her some chords and actually played her guitar. He didn’t have to do that but that’s who he was.

John Denver's songs - particularly Rocky Mountain High and Country Roads - still bring tears to my eyes. I lived in Vail, CO for a number of years and these songs were ANTHEMS. Whenever one of these songs would come on, wherever it was being played, everyone within earshot, and I mean EVERYONE, would sing along. It was a different time back then, but it was not so long ago. Sometimes, they'd be played from a speaker at a shop, into the street. To be with people singing his music walking down the street, with such feeling..... incomparable. What happened to us?

He was born in the summer of his 27th year Coming home to a place he'd never been before He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again You might say he found a key for every door When he first came to the mountains his life was far away On the road and hanging by a song But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care It keeps changing fast and it don't last for long But the Colorado rocky mountain high I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado) He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below He saw everything as far as you can see And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun And he lost a friend but kept the memory Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams Seeking grace in every step he takes His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake And the Colorado rocky mountain high I've seen it raining fire in the sky Talk to God and listen to the casual reply Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more More people, more scars upon the land And the Colorado rocky mountain high I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly Rocky mountain high It's a Colorado rocky mountain high And I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky Friends around the campfire and everybody's high Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado) Rocky mountain high (Colorado

This song touches me as its such an accurate reflection of my life, a new beginning and in a place that i feel at home. John was a main staple in the soundtrack of my younger years, early 70s were a magical time for the singer song writers, John being one of the best, and his clean, clear, crisp vocals, were just like a cool breeze coming up a mountain side. The whole world loved him, perhaps he didn't die, maybe he just stepped out of the limelight.

Had to look after 2 of my granddaughters recently 5 and 7, they normally listen to all the modern stuff that I can't stand. They were colouring in their books and I put this song on, within 10 sec they stopped what they were doing and came and sat next to me and list without saying a word. At the end the 7 year old said " oh poppy I really like that song can you play it again" brought a tear to my eye, haha good music never dies.

My friends and I made a trek across Colorado through the Rocky Mountains on our way to Utah in mid-September. It was our first time ever making this trek clear across Colorado, although I had been to Colorado Springs and Denver as a 15 year old. I am now 68. When we got into the mountains and they were completely surrounding us the feeling of complete elation was so strong that we hurried and got this song pulled up on my iPad and as we drove, taking in the majesty of the beauty that surrounded us, we sang this song at the top of our lungs with tears in our eyes! It’s a memory I will never forget and one that still makes my heart swell each time I think of it. John had the most wonderful way of expressing the most beautiful experiences in his life…and they resonate so much with us all. That is a true gift! I miss him so much! But am so grateful for his music and time on this earth! May he rest in Heaven

2020 I had my wife in the passenger side, it was a cool January morning. January 7th to be exact. There we were taking in the sites and the views as we climbed the rocky mountain highs. She was afraid as we made our way up windy roads with giants cliffs. I assured her we would be okay and we were. Two short years later she’s gone and left me for another fella. I’m just glad to have had the memories. What are the chances this song came on the radio as were were climbing up the Rocky Mountains?

I think i was fortunate enough to be late to the party, Im 20 years old and started listening to john denver at a pretty young age. Not having any previous knowledge about him or seeing him in the spotlight of medial attention i think it helped me better understand his music. Just hearing this song from start to finish was always delightful and inspiring to me. I later discovered he was an inside joke amongst fellow musicians everywhere, but I'm glad i discovered his music before ever doubting giving it a chance. No matter what people may say this guy is amazing.

i remember having lunch with my brother in the restaurant of The Beverly Hills Hotel in the early 1980's when I suddenly noticed John Denver and his family seated a few tables away. I was a huge fan, but didn't dare intrude on his privacy as they soon rose and made their way out of the restaurant, passing just by our table. He was much taller than I had expected, and he looked just like the photo on this music video. He seemed to notice us as he passed by and gave a slight smile. I wish I had said something to him to let him know just how much joy his music had brought to my life. Looking back, I'm just so glad I had the opportunity to see him that day. It's still a clear and vivid memory.
