Venetta was once an Ikette and was also a backing vocalist for Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Alice Cooper etc… I was blessed to have her as my singing teacher for many years. She taught me many things, not only about singing but also life lessons that I will cherish forever!

Vanetta Fields was once a singer with Ike & Tina Turner. The other is Lindsay Field (no relation). Both, along with Lisa Edwards, Were John’s backing vocalists for many years.

John Farnham is the king of letting others around him shine, he makes sure they get their time to shine.. He is one of the nicest blokes you will meet.. His Yacht broke down in Townsville in the 80s & we were fishing on the jetty, it was late nobody around & John came out & had a chat for a while... Awesome bloke, we never asked for an autograph or photo (no camera phones then lol).. He is just a genuine bloke who can sing amazingly.. Jimmy Barnes is the same.. P.s how good is Venetta lol..

Lindsey Field’s changed how I viewed the music industry. He is a kind and humble man. Also Johns music director for year’s. Amazing vocal coach Lisa sent me too him, which was crazy. I didn’t know who he was by name but I knew him as Johns backing vocalist. He opened his front door and invited me into his home. He handed me his guitar and told me to sing. Dude have you noticed where John, basically everyone holds their mic’s. Loud is an understatement. I and many others all love you for your Anzacs content. You gotta get you some Linda and Vicka Bull. Plus Joe Camilleri Black Sorrow’s. Then Archi Roach. Oh who can forget Boom Crash Opera. Dude Melbourne partied 8 nights a week plus. You could catch everyone jamming depending where you went. Gigging you could be playing in multiple bands. I miss Australia😓 So many awesome bands. Dude watch some Kapa Haka.

Watching your reactions to a few of these Australian acts made me realise how lucky I am to have been around to see them all perform live from late 70's onwards. Being older has some advantages :)

At this time, Vanetta was a permanent backing vocalist on recordings and on stage for John. The guy who joined in is Lindsay Field, also a permanent backing vocalist for John. There was also a permanent female backing singer called Lisa Edwards. You can see how well John harmonises with others. A real professional.

Don’t worry about those negative naysayers mate. You’re doing a great job bringing joy and a smile to so many people - just by being you. I’ve heard John Farnham live three times and he truly is a gift to this world. This performance was one of my favourites and shows off his natural ability to allow others shine. John always used to introduce her as ‘The Queen…Vanetta Fields’. And she really was/is! You’ve mentioned gospel a lot, both with John and Jimmy. It’s a nice bit of trivia that Jimmy named his daughter Mahalia, after Mahalia Jackson. And he made the decision to do so if he ever had a daughter after the first time he heard Mahalia Jackson on record…decades before he had his daughter! So the Gospel influence has been there for a long time!

The guy on the piano is David Hirschfelder. After leaving John he went on to compose the scores for Strictly Ballroom, Australia, The Dressmaker and The Water Diviner. Amazing talent.

I am glad you have discovered John Farnham, he is a great singer, entertainer and genuine guy. The best thing watching him sing is you can see his face, he is not swallowing the microphone. His voice is that powerful to be honest he probably doesn't always need one. I don't know if we will ever hear him sing again due to his latest cancer scare. If we don't as long as he is healthy, that's fine - we have decades of songs and memories to pass to generations to come. He also did a concert tour with Olivia Newton John & Anthony Warlow called the main event. He can sing, operatic, blues, jazz, gospel...anything really.

John was a truely giving performer, who also let his 3 backing singers shine throughout his tours veiametta fields & Lindsay fields both shown here as well as the gorgeous lisa Edwards.

When I was 10 my dad snuck me into a John Farnham concert to watch from the lighting box. My first ever concert 1971. I'd only ever seen him in black and white before then. John is a part of Australian history. Thanks for the honest review.
