Exactly what I was about to say . Nothing better than a goalie fight . Ray Emery ( may he RIP ) was the best at it . I'll never forget the time in the Buffalo game where right after he scraps Biron he scraps Peters 😂 dude was a legend

What is the reason they are so preventative about goalie fights? They'll watch a guy get his ass beat but as soon as the michelin man comes down the ice it's all hands on deck to stop it.

Because that wasn't the goalies' fight. Gibson had to come down, but he didn't actually know what was going on This isn't about colors - any player is down, cannot defend, get up nor tap out? STOP And I would hope that Gibson would do the same as Mrazek if the color jerseys were reversed and it happened at his end. After Gibson sees the footage, he'll know he stopped at the right time. Goalie fights look like obese penguins trying to mate. Leave 'em alone.

why does this sport shoot itself in the foot so frequently. A goalie fight would go so viral and reach people who don't even think about hockey. They need to let them go, even once in a while

? This was not a goalie fight - the title should have been Mrazek jumps in to do the refs job for them and saves Entwistle's career. Like I said in other comments, I'm hoping Gibson would step in at his end if he saw that - and after he sees the footage, he will know he stopped at the right time. He's got respect, he's an elite athlete doesn't need to risk his career to get Yoooo - tube clicks. Does anybody here lace-up skates? Have uou guys tried that in goalie gear? I'd like to hear about it. Not so easy, and it looks silly.

Nah and once Gibson sees what happened down there on highlights, he'll know he stopped at the right time. Cuz I'd hope he'd do the same thing as Pete if the situation was presented to him the same. Player down on ice, can't get up, defend, nor tap out? It stops.

Mrazek & Gudas are very close friends. Thats why Gudas stopped/held back further punches.. Nice of Petr to literally play referee there.. Saved Entwistle from an ass kicking for sure!

NHL must tell the refs to prevent goalie fights because every time they come flying in doing anything to stop them

They’re the most important person to team success after all. Take the blackhawks for example. The difference in goalies is .8 goals a game. For context, mcdavid, probably the best player in the game, is only worth .6 goals a game. While goalie fights are fun, having the most important people available is probably more valuable.

I remember the bad blood between them from the '98 or '99 preseason, at least I'm pretty sure of it. The Blackhawks had beat up the Capitals pretty bad and even the the Caps GM joined in and gave a black eye to the Hawks head coach. And I'm fairly sure a game later or the game before the Hawks played physical with the Ducks too. My memory might be incorrect, it's too long ago 😄

@@user-bs9tk7wh9m Yes, they have: twice. Anaheim was the first NHL team from California to win the Stanley Cup when they beat Ottawa in the 2007 Final. They also played in the 2003 Stanley Cup Final, losing in 7 Games to the Dynasty powerhouse Brodeur/Stevens-led New Jersey Devils. In 2003, the Ducks were the 8th Seed in the Western Conference bracket, fighting their way to the SC Final. It was a historic run for a team that barely made the Playoffs to begin with, and weren't expected to make it past the 1st Round. The most recent similar Playoff run to what the 2003 Ducks did are the Panthers in this past Playoff. In 2015, the Western Conference Final was between Anaheim and Chicago, and they were easily the 2 best teams in the NHL, so many considered the Western Conference Final that year to be the de facto "Stanley Cup Final" of sorts, since both Anaheim or Chicago would steamroll the Eastern Conference Champion. Chicago won the WC series and went on to win the Cup fairly easily in the Final.

The officials act at the behest and instruction of the league, and are in turn protected by them. By "cleaning up" the sport to make it more "marketable" they create players like Rempe who just go out and injure people and won't answer the bell.

I may not understand the NHL's blacklisting of goalie fights, but I'll tell you what, son... if that Referee doesn't want Gibson coming down to even out the goalie involvement, then he can damn well get in there himself and help his linesemen handle it. Otherwise, step out the way.

I'm talking about this - when one goalie gets involved, the other goalie's objective in skating down there is to even up the numbers, not to have a goalie fight or beat up your defenseless player. The worst thing for the ref to do is skate out and stop him at center ice. Now that ref is completely USELESS to everyone besides the NHL PR department, who has decided that stopping goalie fights is priority 1. He can't watch for penalties. He can't issue verbal warnings. He's a useless pawn. If he'd immediately recognized what Mrazek was upset about, he could have gotten in there and stopped it himself. No need for Mrazek to jump in. No need for Gibson to make a special trip.

A list of the general rule and why Pete had to step in and I would assume Gibson would do the same at his end I've been dealing with goalies for many years. One of the perils is a goalie gets down there near the action, then a fight breaks out between two other guys and the goalie gets knocked over cuz weebles wobble and they do fall down Their gear is not meant to withstand fighting. hockey gloves are made to come off quick. Trappers and blockers are not You're actually different than the rest of the comments on here - so I may have been coming at you coming off of another comment I don't know why I don't feel like we disagree so much - but a bunch of good games are starting about now - enjoy!

This happens so rarely now, the refs don't even know how to call the rule book right! The refs were like, "oh sh*t, this isn't in the NHL Memo Handbook for Bettman's Game Management!".

@@dmonsefyeah it was in the rule books and they didn't catch it - refs weren't paying attention to Entwistle's hands. He didn't have his gloves off. Until he drops his gloves? He's not fair game. The rule in any sparring sport -if a player is down, can't defend themselves, get up, nor tap out? It stops And I think that's how they do it in pro fighting. It's a sport, not a street fight These are athletes, their bodies are insured.

@@thesportsquad4531 well my son was a hockey goalie, I have coached. - these kids have one shot at a career - they're not going to blow it for your MMA - it's another sport, go find wrestlers willing to fight on ice - you won't. I DO care. I don't care that you don't care. You need to get some of that baaaaaad energy out - get off your couch and do it yourself Why don't you & your buddy put on some goalie gear, then set up a video camera - put it on KZfaq so we can all enjoy watching you get your butt kicked while your waddle around like a fat penguin

When a player can't get up, defend nor tap out? Refs step in. Good for Pete. That was bull. This isn't about colors - a hockey player in distress like that? Gibson had to skate down. And I hope he'd do the same thing as Pete if the Jersey colors were reversed and that happened at his end. Mrazek did what the refs should've done. That was dangerous. Too far.
