I was sober yesterday and today. There is never a guarantee about tomorrow. It will be 3 years for me this July 15 but again, there is no guarantee. Anything can and will happen. Be grateful but never ever assume you'll always be sober.

Just watched the entire hour interview and it is powerful. Hard to imagine someone so successful and recognized in his craft had to fight so many internal demons. Glad he's finally on the road to clean living and appreciating life. Interesting tidbit from the interview, he mentions he wanted to bail on his Roseanne contract toward the end of the series, was drinking on set, not showing up, etc. and apparently ABC told him they had no problem taking his house if he tried to break the contract. They let him finish it out by showing up to whatever episodes he wanted to, and he didn't even recall being present for the final episode where Dan was found "dead".

Good one him, really a big fan of John Goodman. I'm 39 this year, so i really watched alot of him growing up, he's always been really great as an actor, and hes a sweet guy. Good to hear he changed his drinking habits, and as a fan, this is news to me that he had such a problem, so well done Mr Goodman!

John Goodman reminds me so much of my own father. He never had a substance problem but had severe physical health issues from a young age that devastated his mental health. I wish he could have found such clarity in his life before he passed. You're a good man, Goodman. 👏

As a man in recovery and in the brotherhood myself (NA) it brings me motivation that even a man as John Goodman battles everyday with the disease of addiction and win. To me other substances were also a factor but I came to realize that my constant was alcohol. And I deeply relate with the wallowing in self pity and being depressive. Just for today.

John is from my hometown of L.A. (Lower Arnold, just outside of St Louis), and I totally “get” almost everything I see & read about him. In ‘98 I was working at Tower Records & Video in NOLA, and JG came in regularly to rent DVD’s and VHS tapes. He always brought food: Snacks, dinners, you never knew. We never charged him (he had a free complimentary account) and he was always a great hang, even if it was for only 20 seconds. Regardless of the smack a lot of people write about him, I can testify that in the flesh, John is an awesome dude and gives generously of his time to anyone who asks. We love you, John!

1:31 so true. When we're functioning and providing, we justify our drinking. John, you got a good philosophical grip on this. Getting better isn't about that we drink, it's about why.

“I wasn’t battling it that hard at the time”. lol My father was considered an AA guru by those in ‘the club’. 25+ years sober, a sponsor more than once, helped people who were truly down and out get back on their feet. Presumably considered to have completed the vaunted 12-steps. But he never once talked to my brothers and I about how his drinking affected us. He never offered even the most simple of apologies to my mother, for his behaviour during their marriage (which ended primarily due to his drinking), which would have meant so much to her. Yet he’d go to the ends of the Earth for his AA buddies. He died sober, but completely estranged from 2 of his 3 sons, and left my mother bitter and angry for the remainder of her life. He was the quintessential alcoholic; made his family strangers, and strangers family. Hopefully Mr. Goodman does better by his family.

Amen John. Stay strong man!

It’s on my bucket list to meet him. I know it won’t happen but one can only wish. I grew up in the show Roseanne and his other films. I’m not one to want to meet celebrities because I think they are people just like the rest of us. We just have different jobs. He’s just always seemed like a nice person who seems honest and an all around good person. I’m sad that Roseanne got booted from the show. They bounced humor off one another. I also liked Lecy Goranson and the rest of the cast. No one doing tons of plastic surgery but living their authentic selves. They still hit on popular topics. The original Roseanne show brought awareness to so many topics. My kids loved the show too.

10 years last Dec, day at a time is so true. Love being sober and as long as keep that in mind I’ve got a chance. If your wired like me give it a go, it works people. Respect to all

I always wanted him to play my dad, if for whatever reason there was a movie about my life. His spirit is so much like my dad’s.

I was married and the Doctors said we could never have kids because of my wifes heart problems. 10 years after her surgery we went back to see if there was a chance. Being a high risk they monitored the pregnancy and i quit cold turkey because i wasn't going to be that dad drunk and passed out with my daughter in a shit diaper. After 3 nights of no sleep and soaked bedsheets I'm happy to say it's been 22 years sober and my daughter saved my life. We are so very close and she will be graduating from college next spring as a sign language interpreter. She wasn't supposed to be here yet God threw me a little miracle that i am forever grateful for.

I used to live in Sullivan Missouri around 2006 and Interstate 44 runs thru that town on the way to Saint Louis. Right around the St. Clair exit was supposed to be John Goodman's home. It was a beautifully painted house with matching outbuildings. You could see it from the interstate. Many people said it over the 5 years I lived there. Can anyone confirm this ?
