I saw Big Lebowski when it was in the theaters; twice. The theater was empty. I'm so glad it's become a classic, cause when it came out, no one really noticed.

I was too out of touch with more or less everything to even realize what I was missing (in theaters). Since then, I've read that the movie did not do well at the time of its release. Was it ahead of its time? Or was it an acquired taste? It's kinda baffling it wasn't an immediate hit. I agree that it's wonderful that it's become, at this point, a classic for the ages.
@AllanOstermann9 жыл бұрын
Honestly, people didn't know what to make of it. They thought it was about a bunch of morons that bowled. Actually, they did know. They just didn't care. Imagine putting together a trailer for that film. Can't do it :) That's what makes it a classic. It was totally original, and funny as fuck. And so, so cool. Bush was President. This movie was a middle finger to George.

Allan Ostermann I was 13 when this movie came out and saw 3 tunes in our dollar theater. I don’t know why I was so fascinated with a movie I didn’t totally follow at the time, but I was. Loving this movie so young really made me feel like I had good taste from the beginning. However my favorite movie at the time was Independence Day, so maybe I just got lucky :)

He (Goodman) should have unanimously won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this all time flawless performance as the beautifully written masterpiece of an original complex character that is/was Walter Sobchak. However instead of winning he simply wasn't nominated.

along with treasure of the sierra madre, the road warrior, thunderbolt and lighfoot, and taxi driver, this is one of my favorite movies. every line of dialogue in this movie is perfect. the plot of walter and the dude, along with donny ( STFU!) trying to unravel this seemingly complicated mystery is so entertaining. what's great about the big lebowski is that it's a movie that you can watch again and again and it always feels fresh and original. some movies i have a hard time watching once, but not with this one.
