Paddle in, take the drop, negotiate the massive wall, and rush it to the awaiting shoulder to safety! Pretty much sums up Waimea! Not a long ride, but a terrifying one!

I recall seeing these big waves in 73 or 74 while stationed there. Walked down to the beach. It was at first was terrifying they looked like they come all the way inshore. Tried body surfing ended up doing a face plant on shore breakers.. stuck out my arms nope folded them then the face plant.. I believe Sharks Cove was on one side and the Pipe Line was on the other. Went nite diving at sharks cove at nite and while there never went day diving again. Dennis Kerwin was the Scuba instructor. Maui, PADI, And good ole YMCA. CERTS. mostly good memories! Aloha

You know it’s big when you see that boil on Waimea face which was a very big boil on that late lip drip into air near the end of the vid. Absolutely mental and looked like real nice Waimea conditions. Crazy how fast the waves come up on you in Hawaii compared to west coast CA.
