Narration of John Keats' 'The Eve of St. Agnes'. For the entire text of the poem, click:ia700307.us.archive.org/9/item...
I.
St. Agnes' Eve- Ah, bitter chill it was!
The owl, for all his feathers, was a-cold;
The hare limp'd trembling through the frozen grass,
And silent was the flock in woolly fold:
Numb were the Beadsman's fingers, while he told
His rosary, and while his frosted breath,
Like pious incense from a censer old,
Seem'd taking flight for heaven, without a death,
Past the sweet Virgin's picture, while his prayer he saith.
II.
His prayer he saith, this patient, holy man;
Then takes his lamp, and riseth from his knees
And back returneth, meagre, barefoot, wan,
Along the chapel aisle by slow degrees:
The sculptur'd dead, on each side, seem to freeze,
Emprison'd in black, purgatorial rails:
Knights, ladies, praying in dumb orat'ries,
He passeth by; and his weak spirit fails
To think how they may ache in icy hoods and mails

I never comment on any videos, but it has compelled me to let you now how perfectly, wondrously you guys have recited this master piece. I loved and enjoyed every single moment of it. And the song "La Belle Dame Sans Merci", it was so heart touching that I cannot express it. Perhaps, this is the first time I felt so close to my heart an English poetry that I can't even express it. Obviously, the poet, John Keats, is the greatest of all but the way you guys have presented it, this is just melodiously mesmerizing.

I also have my ritual reading of poems. I read "To Autumn" every August or September when the weather mirrors the first stanza of Keats' poem. Every winter solstice I read "A Nocturnal upon St. Lucy's Day" by John Donne. I'm also glad to see there is another fan of Krapp's Last Tape, my favorite Beckett work. And I read some of my favorite poems of George Herbert whenever the occasion fits, especially "The Glance," "The Flower," and The Answer." (I also like his distant Polish relation Zbigniew Herbert and his Mr. Cogito poems.) Needless to say (it's obvious), I'm an English teacher and consider myself a poetry person.

This is a wonderful narration - great job Samuel West! Could have done without the insertion of La Belle Dame... though, sung in that sort of kitsch twee faux-medieval accent - a folk rock version would serve better imho.

And like a throbbing star into her dream he melted….etc was that sex? Also Keats no stranger to the delights of opium. Date rape? Still a lovely poem. These lovers fled away into the storm.
