John is always so much better when Yoko isn’t present. He just comes relaxed, nice normal bloke explaining his music.

Yeah there was a weird dynamic where yoko was the mother/masculine figure in the relationship which John was attracted to but that made him lose his power and authenticity. He needed someone to lead since he lost his mom in his youth. May was good for him but isn’t that life we are usually attracted to whose not good for us til we learn ? Unfortunately he didn’t get the chance to learn that

This is such a nice, calm, and chill interview, like we’re in the studio with them as they’re having a nice little conversation. I’m one of billions to say this but we were robbed of so much great music when we lost John.

Great interview and it’s amazing to hear how lively Lennon sounds here. He sounds excited and interesting. He was definitely a handful. I can barely keep up with him. He was sharp and witty. You better bring your A Game if you’re talking to Lennon. Or else he’ll run circles around you. Very bright guy.

Nowadays it almost seems surreal to have John Lennon in your studio booth for a chat. Such an icon. Can't remember how it was before I became aware of him and the Beatles (born 1971).
@3hooks781 Жыл бұрын
Same here. Also born in 71. I barely remember the sadness everyone felt when he was taken from us. I only really started to appreciate him and the Beatles beginning in 1984. Now im steeped in Beatle fascination and appreciation. Huge, huge loss.

Away from Yoko...he had his best year in '74. It was a "Renaissance weekend" for John, not a lost one....shame. What might have been.........

Hey Mattias - agreed. His name is "Big Daddy" Tom Donahue. He promoted the Beatles San Francisco shows 1964/65 at the Cow Palace and their final concert in Candlestick Park 1966. He had a good relationship with the Beatles, and it shows in this interview.

Sadly, Tom Donahue who did the interview passed away about 6 months later (heart attack @ age 46).

Lennon always seemed happier when he wasn’t with Yoko. He was more creative,he hung out with his peers more and seemed much more upbeat than when he was with that witch.

Bloody hell who is this- LOST weekend? The bloody FOUND weekend more like- I can't believe this is the same 'oh oh sorry Yoko, please Yoko, I didn't mean ...." guy bleating on for the rest of the 70s and late 60s. Incredible- he sounds like a normal human being- all he needed to do next was find the airport and look for 'Heatjrow/Gatwick.'

Lennon even up to his death was well informed about what was going on musically. The Beatles had seen The Move live when they first came out and for a time gave The Who a run their money for auto destruction.

Any interview when he is away from Yuko is an interview that is how John really felt about things. It's funny to hear now how the early FM "Jocks" were so laid back and trying to be hip. Big Daddy Tom has to be who Quincy in Almost Famous was based on.

Another copy paste response, get over it Yoko was his woman, she's kept John's legacy alive respectfully without pimping it out. I'm the biggest Beatles fan I know but Beatles were over, at least for a while.
