Interesting to hear you focusing on Ringo and Klaus. I heard the elements track of Instant Karma yesterday and that really stood out to me, too. Made me think in some parallel world, maybe when Paul announced the split in 1970, the other three said "screw you" and continued the band with Klaus (and maybe Billy Preston). An alternative line up of the 70s to combat the Stones.

I think John's parodies of Dylan on the anthology box set are hilarious. 🤣 I'm looking forward to his Elvis imitation, but I'll have to wait till next week Friday...

I've been on the "fence" with regards to this remastered edition but after watching your review and how upfront, no bullshit opinion of the material, I just placed my order on Amazon for the box set. Thank you Maslov for sharing......

Mazzy congratulations on a thought provoking review. I normally would go with the vinyl edition,but it looks like the value is in the deluxe box set. Would love to hear a vinyl review of the new mix. My 8 yr old son goes to same primary school as John did. There is still a lot of love for John & Yoko in Liverpool. Al the best Mazz Liam ✌️❤️

Hi Mazzy, Sorry to arrive late at this dance.... but to me..... it is on pre-order..... a no brainer. LENNON to me is my favorite artist. His music, his lyrics, emotion is non precedented and no one else comes close to this perfection. If there ever was a perfect statement to start a career off and carry that weight and let off steam on it..... THIS IS IT. Mazzy, your review is beautiful and sumptuous as the music. Cannot wait to receive it. Thank you Yoko, Sean and all at Universal for curating this exquisite catalog to perfection. God bless and keep well..... and thank you so much for this 'gorgeous' review. Tino

I just got the Lennon box. It took me a time to realize the beauty of it. White cube, Lennon written with sky, the size of the box. Looking and thinking. Yes!

This for me is the most honest piece of songwriting there ever was. Its Lennon, what did you expect. 😆 Written in the first person, usually the case with John. Anyway, I've always felt the cover hampered the sales of this masterpiece. ( i walked right by it in the store ) the day it was first released, what 50 years ago? . Now its okay because everyone knows, this is the Lennon masterpiece!...Anyway Paul Hicks is really good at his craft. Hope the Lennon estate sticks with this guy on future Lennon box sets. The sound is full and not so mid range anymore. Nice job. ..! Its not depressing as some would say. It's the story of one mans journey. Reality was never optional for John. Good stuff Mazzy! 😉

The "Plastic Ono Band" was a 15 minute concept that lasted (nominally) 1 live and 2 studio albums, fading to the wayside right after "Some Time in New York City", never to be mentioned again... except when it's REISSUE TIME!! The same can be said - actually it was mentioned by both George and Ringo (not sure if John as well) - about "Sgt. Pepper" on the "Anthology" video. - : Started off as a concept album for the first 2-3 tracks, and then any of the tracks could easily be stuck on any of their other albums. It was Paul that moved Earth and Sky to keep it together, but as far as concepts go, The Beatles suffered from A.D.D.

Ever hear the interview Lennon did on WNEW-FM in NY where he played some records to demonstrate artists he "borrowed" from? Pretty amazing he would do that.
@edmunddonnelly38812 жыл бұрын
I think he was always very open about his influences, even in reference to specific songs and lyrics.

Bought the lp when it came out for working class hero and I was 15. The novelty wore out, when what I really heard on that record kicked in. One of my favorite solo LPs. Yes to Sometime overview. Bought that when new also.

I have delved in to the Dylan bootleg series and am so happy to hear the same exploration of Lennon / Ono's work is being so beautifully crafted. I bought the 'Cold Turkey' single as youngster and was mesmerized by 'Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for a Hand in the Snow)' so fully appreciate her gifts as a musical artist. And I think the poster I remember most from that era is Love Means Never Having to Say Your Sorry for #pissonacow

nice review...love your enthusiasm....i can just imagine john just using simple chord progressions that must seem so intimate and personal....(i can also appreciate his 'situation', since i recently came down with neuropothy and have a difficult time getting my fingering to work properly)...and walls and bridges is my favorite john solo, and i would love to hear those tracks as well....and i think some time in new york gets a bum rap...at the time when those songs were more 'relevant', it was an important and powerful statement...we need it back....we need you back safe and sound from san francisco as well...keep the peace my friend...rocky
@queenhenryviii3 жыл бұрын
Lennon’s progressions can be deceptively tricky because he liked to use suspended and diminished 7th chords that have quirky voicings. You can most definitely play the root chords and the vast majority of people would be none the wiser. John had such a knack for fantastic progressions. Great for ripping off! Cheers man.

To me, I Found Out, Isolation, Love and God tower over everything else on this album. Mother is an eye-opening vocal performance, but as a song, not so much. The rest I feel John bettered on subsequent albums or in his recent-past Beatles songs. I'm not often in the mood for this record all the way through since it's emotionally taxing, but I can respect it as a whole work of art. One of John's best just for that! The fact that there's so much Ringo on the album is a big bonus, and I wish Ringo had played on Mind Games.

Hi Mazzy - I had to revamp my comment a bit here. Thanks for your review. Aside from the Blu-ray, can you name one absolute favorite takeaway from the box set and one thing you really don't care about and would consider a throwaway? For instance, are the outtakes, evolution mixes, and element mixes for collectors only? Or are they something to listen to like the "ultimate" mixes? What is your take? (I did preorder the box) - Thanks
@mazzysmusic3 жыл бұрын
I think the ultimate mix is good but the outtakes are very cool along with the raw studio mixes. The elements are very interesting but if you are not a diehard those might be played only a couple of times. I think the book is fantastic

Do you think it sounds better than the mobile fidelity version?
@kakeungcheung4663 жыл бұрын
it's the first punk rock album: raw, roar, simple and anti society elements

The B52s say that they were "influenced" or "inspired" by Yoko Ono, but their music has nothing to do with Yoko's irritating screeching. The only time you ever hear wailing is for sound effects on their hit song "Rock Lobster", but it fits the motif of the song, and not as the main reason. Nina Hagen, Siouxie & The Banshees? Really? Why don't we throw in Barbra Streisand as well? Well, maybe when she has one of her hissy fits in the recording studio, but it's not a fair comparison.
@peterbailey9783 жыл бұрын
yes a Great review . but the 5.1 Surround Mix is virtually non- Existent and is the same on the imagine album!!!
@mazzysmusic3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not a huge proponent of 5.1 anyway but this one really doesn't need it IMHO. Its a bare bones album
