Lost my mom to cancer 2 months ago. These past few weeks since she's passed have been painful but also just so strange. Everything reminds me of her, and everyday reminds me of something of her. She used to listen to this song a lot, and I only just remembered today. Here's to you mom, hope you're enjoying watching the wheels now.

When I graduated from high school back in the mid 1980s, I had a passion for anthropology and archaeology. When I told the adults in my life that I wanted to pursue this career field, they all shut me down saying there was no money to be made in that field, and best case I could only become a poor college professor. I didn't think that was such a bad thing considering I also wanted to be a school teacher. They explained to me the error of my thinking and I ended going to school for Electronics/Digital Technology. By the time I was ready to graduate, my education had become obsolete because of the rapid changes in the field. I had a potential employer tell me "You need to go back to school and take X, Y, and Z". I was crushed. I told him "I JUST graduated, and you are telling me I have to go back to school?!? What if it changes again while I am in school again?" He said "That's a strong possibility. The field is changing about every 18 months right now and you have to jump in at just the right time... unless you want to star as a glorified parts assembler." I was working nights at UPS sorting packages, so instead, I became a delivery driver, worked for a few decades, retired, drew my pension, and opened my own shop. All the while reading of the work done by others in the field I had wanted so passionately to be a part of.

This is typical John Lennon and it distinguishes John from the other Beatles. Paul & George were natural musical geniuses. John was all that but at a level beyond that. He can take his personal experience, internalize it, and like Confucius, coats with philosophy and with the magical touch, articulates majestically. Imagine the volume and the kind of music he would’ve created if he is alive today.

Some backstory for those not old enough to know or remember. After the Beatles, during his solo career, Lennon became so disillusioned with the music industry that he stopped making music for 5 years. He then heard a song with a strong Elvis vibe popular at the time( can't recall which) and knew it was time for him to come back. This was the main hit from his new album. I was so glad he was back to making music. A few months later, he was killed and I felt it was such a waste.

I hope for you, your health and your family's sake that you find peace and beauty in sobriety instead of dulling/endangering life with alcohol. You're about to reach a turning point. The big THREE OH will arrive before you know it. Knuckle down and get tightened up so it's smooth/easy sailing through your 40s... Worry about your money and growing it for a few years. Heck invest in projects like fixer upper boats or a motorcycle. But if you bike, be safe. Keep your head. Eye's like a hawk 12 rows ahead of ya. You can do it. It's out there to be had. No law says everything has to be "Harley Davidson" or "Bayliner" so don't let brand names keep you from being on 2 wheels or on the water. Sunsets are intoxicating on both. Stay away from w0men. Or at least keep them at a respectable distance. Don't let them take anything from you but your time. Use your time money wisely/sparingly around them. Do not spend excessively on them. They will come and go like cats. Just be nice, honest and genuine with em and that will most certainly chase them off "until you find the right one". If you want to keep one around, treat her poorly. They love crave and desire projects to fix of their own. Since most aren't inclined to fix motorcycles washer dryers etc out the gate They're gonna be needing something to fix or talk about and that would be YOU. They bring nothing to the table and expect everything perfect and handed to them. All they have is their shelf life til they hit the wall at age 40. Their eggs dry up. They don't want to cook or build anything. No patience.. thanks to the internet and tv commercials. You're a man. You can reproduce into your 70s if you play it right/that way. They have very few other talents than that. Which leaves them with mind games. Be prepared for divorce. They just don't make em like they used to. They don't have any work ethic or patience. Their world is their ovaries and what comes out of them and the following... plus being seen spending money. If you father or fathered children be ready for that. Tiny Faces (very talented group) sang a song (OOO LA LA is the title of it) that fits them to a T back in 1973 and you should give it a good listen.. Just play it cool. Keep your smarts and be patient. Life Buffers. Sidenote; Karaoke helped me whip drinking at age 28. I felt more higher than any drunk I'd been after singing. So I switched to coffee and Sang My Booze out every night for nearly 2 years in Tampa. Woke up with no hangovers and plenty more money leftover in my pocket each morning in comparison to booze nights. After that I switched to Golf for 12 years. Hope this helps. Sending good vibrations your way brother. ✌☮ P.S. don't listen to those haters about metal. It's the bomb. I still rock some Chuck Schuldiner from time to time. I also listen to jazz, disco, punk, ska, soul, classic country, hip hop, house jazz, 70s/80s rock pop, Never let anyone make you one dimensional. I've seen Slayer, GWAR, 5 times. Plus plenty other great shows. Metal is Truth and thats a tough pill for society to swallow these days. (Gen X 1971)

I was an alcoholic at 28 too my friend. I'm 35 now, and alcohol no longer controls me. You have a very hard time to go through, but I absolutely promise that you're not alone, and that life without booze is completely worth it. All those things you're ashamed of, there are millions of others who have similar stories. You can learn from that shame, and stop feeling it. Be humble, listen, and be brave enough to be honest. Make peace with those you have conflict with, and with yourself for the mistakes you've made. Don't blame others, take responsibility, and act how you wish others had treated you. It's hard, it takes time, and you are the only one who can do it. Good luck.
